The information recording apparatus constructed as above can realize highly reliable recording/reproducing operations and can be made compact at a low cost with a large storage capacity.

According to this apparatus, it becomes possible to continuously form a film without causing damage and deterioration of the substrate.

    Abstract: Learning marks are recorded in a learning region preceding a data recording region of the track. The positions of information recording lattice points are staggered by one lattice point between two contiguous tracks. At reading of recorded information, a two-dimensional information leakage amount is detected by the reproduced signals from a learning mark preceding a target information recording lattice point on a track, and from the information recording lattice points immediately before and after the learning mark in question. The equalization coefficients are calculated from leakage amount thus obtained. The crosstalk present in a reproduced signal for the target lattice point is removed by using this equalization coefficients and a pair of reproduced signals from intermediate lattice points which are located immediately before and after the current lattice point and which are not used to record information marks.

    Abstract: Scratches on the recording disk caused by sliding of a disk cartridge shutter is prevented by slidably inserting first and second shutters between a tray and a case on the opposite side to a recording disk accommodating portion of the tray. The first shutter simultaneously opens and closes a case side driving shaft insert hole, a case side head insert hole, a tray side driving shaft insert hole, and a tray side head insert hole. The second shutter opens and closes a terminal hole. The second shutter is opened independently of the first shutter and is held in a position so that the case side driving shaft insert hole, the case side head insert hole, the tray side driving shaft insert hole, and the tray side head insert hole are not closed. Closing the first shutter, however, causes the second shutter to also close.

    Abstract: According to this invention, since the range of power necessary for erasing an overwritable magneto-optical recording medium is set to 2.5 mW or above, overwriting is possible without erase residue due to mark (magnetic domain) diameter difference, tracking offset, ambient temperature variation and characteristic dispersion between magneto-optical recording media and thus the magneto-optical recording medium has high reliability. Moreover, the rate of change, K of the switching field of the memory layer relative to temperature at around an erase start temperature can be controlled to be a constant value so that an erase power margin can be increased and that the tolerance to the reading light when the ambient temperature rises can be improved.

    Abstract: A magneto-optical disk which has a circular disk form and comprises a substrate provided with information pits and a guide groove, a recording medium layer provided on the substrate, and a protective layer formed of at least one thin film on the medium layer, in which the surface of the protective layer is minutely roughened to have a concave rough pattern and not to substantially protrude beyond a reference level composed of the outermost surface portions of the protective layer. When the magneto-optical disk is subjected to recording by a CSS system using an air floating magnetic head conforming to high-frequency recording in a magnetic field modulation type recording, which is one of methods of overwrite recording on magneto-optical disks, the minute concave rough pattern formed on the surface of the disk substrate prevents such troubles as adhesion of the magnetic head to the surface of the disk and collision between the disk substrate being rotated and the head.

    Abstract: An optical recording medium is made by sputtering a polymeric material in an evacuated chamber to form an under layer on a substrate having a preformed grooved pattern of prepits and pregrooves, and then forming a recording layer on the underlayer in the chamber continuously after forming the underlayer. Said under layer is made of a high polymeric material which can be melted, sublimated, or decomposed at a lower temperature than the melting point, the sublimating point, or the decomposing temperature of said recording layer. Accordingly, said under layer can relax the thermal shock transferred from said substrate into said recording layer, and the deformation of said substrate can be prevented, even though a laser beam for playback is repeatedly radiated onto said recording layer, and said optical recording medium has a larger recording sensitivity than the recording sensitivity of an optical recording disc of a prior art.
