Patent number: 11034097Abstract: A method for minimizing the time to form a polyethylene pipe e joint comprises the steps of performing a butt-fusion process until the beginning of the full cooling cycle; holding an interfacial pressure through a minimum cool time calculated using a formula based on the wall thickness of the pipe e, the initial bulk temperature of the pipe e, and a heat soak time; and releasing the interfacial pressure from the fused pipe e joint at the end of the calculated minimum cool time.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2019Date of Patent: June 15, 2021Assignee: McElroy Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: Amanda Hawkins, Arthur H. Patent number: 10682780Abstract: A facer facing the ends of polyolefin pipes for butt fusion is modular in the sense that it employs three types of modules, a drive unit, two blade holders and a motor assembly, that are separable from one another and each independently light enough to be hand-lifted along walls and up to ceilings. The drive unit module is adjustable to accommodate different guide rail spacings. The blade holder modules are interchangeable to accommodate different diameters of pipe. The motor assembly module has multispeed capability to accommodate the total area of material to be faced. Each module can be exchanged or modified without use of tools to change the geometry of the assembled facer to accommodate different fusion machines and/or diameters of pipe within working spaces dictated by the diameter of the pipe and not by a fixed geometry of a facer.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2017Date of Patent: June 16, 2020Assignee: MCELROY MANUFACTURING, INC.Inventors: Timothy M. Publication number: 20190351625Abstract: A fusion machine which can be top-loaded on very large polyolefin pipes and pipelines has jaws which consist of an upper half jaw and lower left and right complemental jaws which pivot on the half jaw. Left and right actuators connected between the complemental jaws and the half jaw operate in one direction to cause the complemental jaws to rotate to an opened condition in which the upper half jaw can be lowered onto and lifted from the pipes to be fused and in the other direction to cause the complemental jaws to rotate to a closed condition in which the pipes to be fused are gripped so substantially around their circumferences as to resist their deformation from round during manipulation by the machine. The top-loading machine minimizes the need for heavy equipment to load and unload pipe to and from the fusion machine.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 2, 2019Publication date: November 21, 2019Applicant: McElroy Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: Jason A. Patent number: 10436362Abstract: Assembly for securing two components by tool free engagement. The assembly including a clamped component and a shouldered component. The shouldered component including a channel for receiving the clamped component. The channel having a first wall and a second wall. The clamped component being in contact with the second wall. The first wall of the channel having a tapered interface. A clamp including a clamp segment having a tapered interface, is adapted to wedge against the tapered interface of the first wall. The clamp segment being positioned between the first wall and the clamped component. Application of clamping force by the clamp on the clamp segment forces its tapered interface against the mating tapered interface of the first wall resulting in a force which translates from the clamp segment through the clamped component and against the second wall of the channel thereby securing the clamped component to the shouldered component.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2017Date of Patent: October 8, 2019Assignee: McElroy Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: Seth P. Patent number: 10343336Abstract: A tool for use in fusing an outlet fitting in the side wall of a plastic pipe has a base with three perpendicular guide rods. A movable plate is reciprocated on the guide rods in response to manual operation of a rack-and-pinion. The movable plate has a hole oriented to align a drill adapter and an outlet fitting adapter which are interchangeably inserted into the hole on an axis extending through a predetermined point on the longitudinal axis of the pipe. A retractable ratchet strap tightly girts the pipe to secure the tool against the pipe. The ratchet strap assures that the tool always maintains its original orientation on the pipe and the hole assures that interchanged drill and outlet fitting adapters are always returned to their original orientation in the tool. Therefore, the outlet fitting is always fused in its proper orientation in the pipe.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2016Date of Patent: July 9, 2019Assignee: McElroy Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: Michael Tritt, Eric Abbott
