  • Publication number: 20080159815
Abstract: A retaining wall block which simulates natural stone blocks and which can be dry stacked to form a landscape retaining wall. The block has a generally flat back and substantially parallel top and bottom surfaces which extend substantially perpendicular to the back. The front of the block and sides of the block are preferably textured with an irregular pattern which simulates natural stone. The front of the block is sufficiently irregular as to not be perpendicular to the top and bottom or parallel to the back of the block. Sides of the block are not parallel to each other and may be textured to have an appearance consistent with the front of the block.

  • Publication number: 20080116352
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a concrete block in form having a resilient insert forming a cavity in which the block is cast and a rigid support for the resilient insert. After the block has cured, the form is inverted. One or more areas of the insert are tethered to the support so that at least a portion of the insert can fall a short distance from the support. The weight of the cast block sufficiently deforms the insert to allow the block to fall free from the insert. When the form is again inverted to its upright position, the insert falls back into the support and returns to its original shape.

  • Patent number: 7351956
Abstract: Methods and systems for obtaining mass spectrographic data of a substance. Methods include subjecting a substance to a chromatographic process or other separating process, ionizing the output thereof, and subjecting the ionized output to recursive mass spectrometry analyses; and provide improved processing and analysis of data acquired during the repeated analyses. Systems according to one aspect of the invention comprise ion sources, mass spectrometers capable of analyzing ions of selected mass, and controllers adapted to receive from the mass spectrometers and retain signals representing data representing pluralities of mass spectrograms. The controllers can be adapted to generate information useful for describing extracted ion chromatograms, using data associated with the pluralities of mass spectrograms and non-linear curve approximation algorithms; and to use the generated information to generate further information useful in further analysis of the ionized substance.

  • Patent number: 7097633
Abstract: A retractable needle fluid transfer device is provided. The device includes a manually operable actuator for affecting retraction. Upon depressing the actuator, a spring displaces the needle rearwardly so that the contaminated needle is enclosed, thereby preventing inadvertent needle sticks. The device includes forward and rearward stops for impeding displacement of the needle after the needle is retracted. A seal prevents contaminants from entering the device after the needle is retracted. A safety sampling access port adapter for obtaining fluid samples from a fluid line is also provided. The sampling adapter includes a first end configured to cooperate with an access port attached to the fluid line. The sampling adapter further includes a collapsible socket configured to cooperate with a fluid container such as a vacuum tube. A needle assembly disposed within the housing of the sampling adapter is operable to pierce the seal on the fluid container.

  • Patent number: 7090656
Abstract: A hypodermic injection system with a retractable needle wherein the needle retracts within an interior cavity of a syringe plunger, such that the needle is confined within the plunger. A spring biases the needle rearwardly into the plunger, and a needle retainer releasably retains the needle against the bias of the spring. The plunger has a frangible end, which dissociates when the plunger engages the needle retainer, allowing the coiled spring to eject the needle into the interior cavity of the plunger. A body fluid sampling embodiment employs the same functional elements except the plunger is shorter and contains a linking that communicates with a vacuum container. The container allows fluid sampling and provides the structure to release the spring retracting the needle.

  • Patent number: 7033343
Abstract: A device for injecting fluid from a pre-filled cartridge is provided. The device includes a needle for piercing a patient. After an injection, the needle can be retracted to prevent inadvertent contact with the contaminated needle. A needle retainer releasably retains the needle in the retracted position. The needle can subsequently be re-extended to administer a subsequent injection. After the cartridge is emptied, the cartridge can be removed, if desired, and replaced with another cartridge for additional injections. Alternatively, the needle can be retracted into the device and safely disposed of in a sharps container.

  • Patent number: 7004929
Abstract: A device is provided for injecting fluid from a pre-filled cartridge. The device includes a needle and a hollow barrel that holds a pre-filled cartridge. A needle retainer releasably retains the needle in an extended position so the needle can be inserted into a patient. A plunger in the rear of the barrel cooperates with the cartridge to expel fluid from the cartridge during an injection. After an injection, the needle is automatically retracted into the barrel when pressure is released from the plunger. A locking mechanism locks the contaminated needle and cartridge in the barrel after needle retraction. After use, the device may be safely disposed of in a sharps container.

  • Patent number: 6981963
Abstract: A safety needle-bearing device for mixing and injecting medication from a two-chambered cartridge is provided. The device includes a needle that extends through the forward end of a barrel. A two-chambered cartridge is attached to the barrel and contains components of a medication stored separately in the chambers. A plunger in the rearward end of the cartridge can be advanced into the cartridge to combine the separate components and prepare the medication. As the cartridge is advanced forwardly into the barrel, the medication is injected through the needle and into a patient. At the completion of the injection stroke, the cartridge engages a needle retainer to actuate needle retraction. The needle is subsequently retracted to shield the contaminated needle.

  • Patent number: 6854708
Abstract: A valve achieves a high-vacuum seal and opens and closes with no sliding or otherwise abrading contact between the sealing plate and the valve seat, while maintaining pressure of the plate against the valve seat in the event of a failure in the valve actuation mechanism. These results are attained by use of a composite valve plate that includes a sealing plate joined to a support block through a retractable resilient connector. During retraction, the sealing plate is drawing close to the block by a pneumatic actuator internal to the composite valve plate, the actuator arranged to oppose and overcome a mechanical resilient element also contained within the valve plate that urges the sealing plate outward from the support block to effect the seal when the actuator is not engaged.

  • Patent number: 6762859
Abstract: To generate engraving data (6), especially for an engraving cylinder, based on a vectorized printer's copy (1) and a screen stipulation (2), depending on the geometry of the elements contained in the printer's copy, within predefined variation range for the engraving data (6) at least one working screen (4) is chosen which deviates from the screen stipulation (2). In the printer's copy (1) first at least one line element is chosen. Afterwards within the variation range a working screen is determined which is matched to the periodicity of the determined line element with respect to density and/or angle. Then in the printer's copy (1) font elements are chosen and they are matched to the working screen using font hinting data. If necessary also the screen geometries which belong to the different process colors are stretched or flattened in the line direction and/or in the advance direction in order to be aligned to the chosen line element.
