Abstract: The invention concerns microbiology and medicine and may be used for the prophylaxis and treatment of the syndrome of an irritated large intestine in either a human or an animal. The insertion of the samples of the strains of the autochthonous bank into the intestine of a human permits the repair of the broken bacteriocenosis of the intestine due to the use of the entire spectrum of the healthy (normal) microflora of the intestine. The method is as follows: feces samples of a single human are taken during healthy periods beginning 7-15 days after birth and continuing through the course of a lifetime no more than once a year.
Abstract: Apparatus (10) for measuring skin blood flow includes apparatus (12) for applying a predetermined temperature gradient to a portion of skin, thereby to change the temperature thereat from a first temperature to a second temperature; a single temperature sensing element (14) for measuring a temperature at a selected location near the portion of skin; a control apparatus (20) for operating the apparatus (12) for applying a predetermined temperature gradient, and further for operating the temperature sensing element (14) in first and second operative modes; in the first mode the temperature sensing element (14) measuring a first reference temperature at the selected location, and in the second mode the temperature sensing element (14) being operable to measure a second temperature at the selected location; wherein the second mode, the control apparatus (20) operates the apparatus (12) for applying a predetermined temperature gradient so as to maintain the predetermined gradient between the first and second tempe
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for glare removal in digital imaging of a cervix. The apparatus includes a digital camera operable to create first and second digital images having substantially the same field of view; lights associated with the camera for illuminating the cervix with light pulses emitted from two locations, and a digital processor. The light pulses are synchronized so the cervix is illuminated with a first pulse for the creation of the first image and the cervix is illuminated with a second pulse for the creation of the second image. First glare and first non-glare regions are created by the first pulse in the first image, and second glare and second non-glare regions are created by the second pulse in the second image. The processor creates a glare-free digital composite image by replacing the digital elements of the glare region of the first image with the corresponding digital elements from the non-glare region of the second image.
Abstract: An improved design for the lower part of the hull of a planing amphibian. The design contains an immovable member, a dampening movable member in the form of a set of overlapping plates attached to the immovable member by the length of the front edge, and air balloons placed in between the movable and immovable members. There is also a flexible coupler attached to the longitudinal edges of the immovable and movable members permitting elastic bending of the plates. The plates forming the movable member are made of a nonwettable, elastic material, allowing elastic deformation of the movable member when the amphibian encounters land obstacles. The air balloons help to dampen the deformations. When operating on rough water, the plates forming the movable member elastically deform and compress the air balloons, decreasing the loads on the lower part of the hull. When the amphibian returns to land, the plates elastically deform and impact one another, shaking off any adhering ice.

Abstract: An apparatus for digital colposcopy and videography comprises a digital imaging camera that is operably coupled to the optical path of the digital colposcope by means of a beam splitter so that a digital image of the cervico-vaginal tissue can be captured. The digital imaging camera and digital colposcope are mounted to one end of an articulating arm of the apparatus. A digital processing means is operably connected to the digital imaging camera to create a digital image. The digital processing means is housed in a stand of the assembly.
Abstract: The present invention is a hypodermic syringe pre-filled with a volume of a desired solution. A plug member is positioned within the hypodermic syringe in between the pre-filled fluid and the lumen of the syringe's cannula. The presence of the plug member within the hypodermic syringe separates the cannula from the pre-filled fluid thereby leaving the cannula unaffected by the presence of the fluid within the syringe. As the plunger of the hypodermic syringe is engaged, the pressure of the pre-filled fluid is increased. The fluid pressure acts upon the plug member, displacing the plug member when a predetermined fluid pressure is achieved. Once the plug member is displaced, the occlusion between the pre-filled fluid and the cannula is removed and the pre-filled fluid is free to flow through the lumen of the cannula.
Abstract: A pre-filled hypodermic syringe includes a retractable needle and detachable plunger shaft so the syringe can be selectively rendered inoperable. A liquid held within the syringe is held in place by a elastomeric stop that surrounds the discharging tip of the needle. When the syringe is to be used, the needle stop is removed and the plunger is advanced within the syringe barrel until the liquid is displaced through the needle. When the plunger contacts the base of the needle within the syringe barrel, the plunger becomes capable of being rotated. The rotation of the plunger connects the plunger to the needle and the needle can be retracted into the syringe barrel with the plunger. Once fully retracted, the needle cants and the plunger shaft can be destructively disconnected from the plunger, rendering the syringe inoperable.

Abstract: A syringe and needle assembly having a piston that is formed to engage and retract the needle assembly into the syringe barrel. The piston includes a spring member that is elastically deformed by the attachment of the piston to the needle assembly. The spring member causes the needle assembly to be spring biased into a canted position so that, once retracted into the syringe barrel, the needle assembly cants to an inoperable position.

Abstract: A lavage for obtaining a fluid specimen from a body cavity, has an elongated, flexible, narrow first tube insertable into a body cavity. A compressible bellows contains a saline solution communicating with the tube for ejecting the solution into the body cavity. A second tube surrounds the first tube and is insertable therewith into the body cavity to receive the solution expelled from the body. A third tube, attached to the first tube, communicates with the second tube to pass the expelled solution thereto. A removable cap on the third tube carries the second tube and serves as a stop member to limit insertion of the first and second tubes into the body cavity.
Abstract: A barrel for a control syringe, including a substantially cylindrical body, a pair of horizontal flanges extending from the top of the cylindrical body, each of the horizontal flanges having an aperture therein adjacent the cylindrical body, and a pair of substantially horizontal flanges extending from the cylindrical body and located below the apertures in the horizontal flanges. The sides of the apertures are substantially the same shape as the sides of the substantially horizontal flanges.A single mold cavity and an integral core pin for forming the control syringe barrel are also disclosed.
