  • Publication number: 20030193427
Abstract: The invention provides a method for operating a portable hand-held transmitter for a vehicle remote-control system in which a plurality of activation sequences control a plurality of assigned control functions in a normal operating mode, at least one control function being assigned to each prescribed activation sequence. The activation sequences differ in the manner and/or number of actuations of an activation mechanism of the portable transmitter. According to the invention the portable transmitter is switched over from the normal operating mode into a programming mode by means of a switch-over activation sequence which is carried out via the at least one activation mechanism. Assignments of the prescribed activation sequences and of the prescribed control functions can be changed as desired during the programming mode.

  • Patent number: 5987372
Abstract: The invention relates to a safety system for a motor vehicle having an internal-combustion engine. Independent quantities are used for the engine control and for the monitoring of the engine control. The control of the internal-combustion engine takes place by way of an operating parameter indicative of the operating condition of the internal-combustion engine--such as the engine load. In contrast, the monitoring of the engine control takes place by means of a quantity indicative of vehicle propulsion, such as the vehicle output torque, which is determined on the basis of a rotational wheel speed. The desired values for the engine control and for the monitoring are determined from the accelerator pedal position. The detection of the corresponding actual values is based on independent input quantities.

  • Patent number: 5955395
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing a Pt/zeolite catalyst material, the material itself, and the use of the material in removing carbon monoxide from a gas. In a preferred embodiment, the invention relates to a process for preparing a Pt/zeolite catalyst material for the catalytic removal of CO in H.sub.2 -rich gas by means of selective CO oxidation and the use of such a catalyst material. The catalyst materials of the invention can be prepared by employing Pt(NH.sub.3).sub.4 Cl.sub.2.H.sub.2 O and a zeolite material. The resulting material can be used for the catalytic removal of CO from an H.sub.2 -rich outlet gas mixture from a methanol reforming reactor. The compositions and methods to produce catalytic materials result in products with high and prolonged catalyst activity. In particular, the methods and compositions of the invention can be used in removing CO from the hydrogen fed to fuel cells in electric vehicles having stored methanol fuel.

  • Patent number: 5951798
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the continuous production of a multi-layer web comprising an exterior covering and a nonwoven material disposed underneath. According to the present invention, a nonwoven material which has been prebonded is used as the starting product, and the steps of additional bonding, calibrating, and smoothing of the nonwoven material and of laminating the nonwoven material and the exterior covering are combined in a single process. The present invention, in addition to achieving a cost advantage, also produces a covering material that provides better sitting conditions, equivalent to the foam backed covering materials with respect to physical textile values yet being easier to recycle and. In addition, recycled textile products can be worked into the covering material of the present invention as reprocessed fibers without losing any advantage.

  • Patent number: 5940007
Abstract: A system and method for operating a remote control having a portable remote control unit which can control at least one function unit. The remote control unit and the function unit are connected with one another by way of a bidirectional data communication link, by which data can be transmitted by means of a symmetrical coding method. The remote control unit sends a learn mode reporting signal in a secret coding information learn mode to the controllable function unit which, in the learn mode, in turn, sends back an acknowledgment signal. Upon receipt of the acknowledgment signal, the remote control unit generates new secret coding information by means of the coding algorithm, as a function of basis secret coding information and of the previous secret coding information, and sends the new secret coding information to the function unit.

  • Patent number: 5916390
Abstract: The invention relates to a cylinder liner sealed into a reciprocating piston engine comprising a supereutectic aluminum/silicon alloy which is free of mixed-in particles of hard material and which is composed in such a way that fine silicon primary crystals and intermetallic particles automatically form from the melt as hard particles. A blank is allowed to grow from finely sprayed melt droplets by spray compaction, with a fine distribution of hard particles being produced by setting the spray for small melt droplets. The blank can then be formed by cold extrusion to create a shape approximating the cylinder lining. After premachining, the surface is fine machined, honed in at least one stage and then the hard particles lying at the surface are mechanically exposed, is forming plateau areas of hard particles which project above the remaining surface of the base microstructure of the alloy.
