Publication number: 20240273840Abstract: A wrist-pose isolation system can infer a wrist pose (e.g., the user's hand position relative to her forearm) and can reduce wrist-induced jitter for projection casting in an XR environment. A user's projection cast can be determined as a combination of a “low-wrist contribution” component (e.g., a body-and-arm component) and a “high-wrist contribution” component (e.g., the pose of the wrist with respect to the arm). Using input from a gesture-tracking system, the contribution of the user's wrist pose to the user's current projection cast is calculated as a “wrist-contribution vector.” A projection cast direction can be determined as the interpolation of the current low-wrist contribution component and the high-wrist contribution component. This interpolation can be performed by weighting each by a specified amount and combining them.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2024Publication date: August 15, 2024Applicant: Meta Platforms Technologies, LLCInventors: Norah Riley SMITH, Matthew Alan INSLEY

Publication number: 20240261147Abstract: Eye safety and eye tracking accuracy is enhanced through pupil-aware eye tracking, where a fringe pattern projection or illumination onto the eye is locally dimmed in an area corresponding to the pupil. Fringe projection local dimming is accomplished by modifying (locally dimming) the fringe pattern at the projector. Illumination local dimming is accomplished at the light source (e.g., a laser source) before the light is provided by a micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) to the eye. An amount of light provided to non-pupil areas such as sclera may be increased to enhance a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), which may lead to more accurate eye tracking.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 8, 2023Publication date: August 8, 2024Applicant: Meta Platforms Technologies, LLCInventors: Yatong AN, Youmin WANG, Gaetano AIELLO

Patent number: 12057067Abstract: Embodiments relate to a display device including pixels that compensate a threshold voltage of a driving transistor using the body effect. Pixel data for the driving transistor increases the source-bulk voltage of the driving transistor during a compensation period as a result of the body effect. A separate reference voltage is not received at the pixel for the purpose of compensating the threshold voltage of the driving transistor. The increased source-bulk voltage is then used in an emission period of the pixel to compensate for the threshold voltage of the driving transistor.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2022Date of Patent: August 6, 2024Assignee: META PLATFORMS TECHNOLOGIES, LLCInventors: Qianqian Wang, Min Hyuk Choi, Gang Chen

Patent number: 12056275Abstract: An Artificial Reality (AR) device captures an image of a physical environment surrounding a user wearing the AR device. A three-dimensional map corresponding to the physical environment is accessed. Then, a pose of the AR device relative to the three-dimensional map is determined based on first features of physical objects captured in the image and second features of object representations in the three-dimensional map. The device determines, using an eye tracker, a gaze of an eye of the user. Based on the gaze and the pose, a region of interest is computed in the three-dimensional map. Representations of physical devices in the region of interest of the three-dimensional map are identified. The device determines an intent of the user to interact with a physical device. A command is issued to the physical device based on the determined intent.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2022Date of Patent: August 6, 2024Assignee: META PLATFORMS TECHNOLOGIES, LLCInventors: Daniel Miller, Renzo De Nardi, Richard Andrew Newcombe
