Abstract: A tool for installing an externally threaded and keyed insert comprising a mandrel for the acceptance of an externally threaded insert. A cylindrical key-set sleeve is journaled on the mandrel and is movable axially thereof so as to bias the keys on the insert to the locked condition. An air chamber supports a piston that is movable upon the introduction of pressurized air into the air chamber to effect locking movement of the key-set sleeve.
Abstract: An engine block plug having a cylindrical grommet provided with a radially extending flange, a central longitudinal radially inwardly tapering aperture with an internal circumferential groove and an insert having a radially inwardly tapering outer surface, a narrow end and a radially outwardly extending flange preassembled within the internal groove. The assembly is inserted into the block port and the insert is driven further into the grommet to expand the grommet to seal the engine block port.
Abstract: A tool for forming a head on a plastic rivet while achieving and maintaining "draw up" of the elements to be conjugally secured thereby. The tool may be heated to facilitate head forming and to effect complete polymerization of a plastic rivet, such as a rivet comprising a "B" stage thermoset resin.
Abstract: A low voltage switch having relatively long plunger travel that maximizes internal self-wiping of the contacts thereby to prolong switch life. The support for the internal contacts functions as a guide for the plunger as well as providing the necessary electrical spacing.
Abstract: An insert which ensures contiguity and proper alignment during installation of a plurality of gasket elements used to seal the joint between the mating surfaces of components comprising an internal combustion engine.

Abstract: A molded thermoplastic valve stem oil deflector for an internal combustion engine comprises a two piece cup-shaped member having a skirt and a neck defined by two axially spaced radial flanges. The flanges have apertures therethrough defining a radially inwardly opening annulus for the acceptance of a conventional O-ring that seals on the valve stem and supports the oil deflector relative thereto.
Abstract: A fastener comprises composite head and shank portions having an encapsulating metal sheath thereon that is electrically isolated from conductive fibers in the head and shank portions and from an exposed surface of the head portion.
Abstract: A seal assembly for a shaft comprises one or more annular sealing elements having an initial internal diameter larger than the diameter of the shaft. The elements are deformed by a pair of annular backup rings disposed on opposite sides thereof. The backup rings have opposed axially extending undulations therein for effecting axial deformation and radial contraction of the sealing elements upon advancement of the backup rings toward one another.
Abstract: A polytetrafluoroethylene seal is provided with surface effect vanes that effect hydrodynamic pumping of oil upon rotation of a shaft about which the seal is disposed.
Abstract: A composite channel and plate nut assembly comprises a U-shaped channel having a plurality of apertures in the web portion thereof immediately adjacent the flanges therein for the acceptance of a plurality of downwardly extending lugs on the plate nut whereby reaction forces are accepted directly by said channel flanges upon threading of a bolt into said nut.
Abstract: A composite rivet comprises an integral mandrel having a collar telescoped thereabout for controlling radial deformation of a head forming portion thereof.
Abstract: A composite rivet comprises a preformed head portion, a shear portion, an integral mandrel extending from said shear portion having an annular recess therein, a deformable plastic locking ring radially aligned with and filling the recess in said mandrel, and a collar telescoped about and radially aligned with said locking ring for controlling deformation thereof.
Abstract: A composite rivet comprising an axially compressible and radially expandable tubular plastic preform with a mandrel extending centrally thereof and a collar radially aligned with an annular recess in said mandrel for controlling radial deformation of the preform and locking of the mandrel in the rivet.
Abstract: An encapsulated metal bolt comprises a head portion having an encapsulating cap thereon with a plurality of conductive fibers therein electrically isolated from the head but electrically exposed to the surface of a complementary aperture.
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a wheel nut comprising a nut body having conventional wrenching flats that are sheathed in part by a stainless steel sheet metal cap. The cap covers one end of the nut body and extends down the wrenching flats thereof. The nut is provided with a plurality of axially extending weld nibs of unique configuration which permit the stainless steel cap to be welded to the nut body by conventional resistance welding techniques.
Abstract: A composite seal comprising a primary seal element and a secondary sealing element. The primary seal element is more readily deformable than the secondary seal element. Juxtaposed surfaces of the seal elements are configured to minimize extrusion of the primary seal element past the secondary seal element.
Abstract: An electrical connector is disclosed which is of the kind comprising a male tab insertable in a female clip. The female clip (3) has the general form of a hollow parallelepiped the bottom wall (5,6) of which comprises an elastically deformable tab portion (5) (9) engageable in an opening of corresponding male tab portion.
Abstract: A socket for the reception of a bulb comprising a housing having a grommet receptacle therein for the acceptance of a grommet in sealing relationship. An electrically conductive wire extends through the grommet for connection to an internal terminal strip of the housing. An integral latch on the housing biases the grommet into its receptacle in the housing and secures the grommet in position therein.
