  • Patent number: 4601622
Abstract: A bolt is provided with a male thread, an end portion of which is of modified configuration, for acceptance in an element having a female thread of standard configuration. The modified portion of the male thread has a wedge ramp at the root thereof and a decreased pitch relative to the standard pitch of the thread on the female element which, in combination, results in optimum distribution of stress in the bolt as well as a prevailing torque relationship between the bolt and female element.

  • Patent number: 4579514
Abstract: An apparatus and method for loading a front loading molding press in which a loading board is pivoted at one edge on a horizontal pivot shaft which extends into a lower corner of the press opening adjacent one side of the mold in the press. Loading of the press is performed by loading the board with a predetermined array of articles to be molded while the board is in an upwardly pivoted oblique preloading position to one side of the press opening; thereafter pivoting the loaded board downwardly to a loading position directly in front of the press; thereafter sliding the board on the pivot shaft into the press opening to an unloading position directly overlying the mold; and thereafter discharging the articles downwardly onto the mold.

  • Patent number: 4574609
Abstract: A nut forming apparatus in which a pair of identical die assemblies are housed in a pair of diametrically opposed boxes in a rotary block and rearward movement of the die assembly relative to the rotary block at a first die station is precluded but rearward movement of that die assembly is allowed as it is moved to a second die station by rotary movement of the rotary block. A fixed back pierce pin, associated with each die assembly, is thus inoperative in response to a front forming blow struck by a punch positioned at the first die station but operates to back pierce the nut blank upon rearward movement of the die assembly in response to a front forming blow struck by a punch positioned at the second die station. A pair of cammingly interfaced cylindrical members associated with each die undergo relative rotation as the die assembly is moved by rotation of the rotary block between the first and second die stations to respectively preclude and allow rearward movement at that die assembly.

  • Patent number: 4554723
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring workpieces to successive work devices. The apparatus comprises concentric turntables mounted for rotation about a common central axis. A series of work devices are mounted on the inner turntable and a series of workpiece holder devices are mounted on the outer turntable. The turntables are rotated in the same direction and in synchronism while the various work devices respectively perform work operations on the various workpieces held in the various workpiece holder devices, whereafter the inner turntable is accelerated and the outer turntable is decelerated until the various workpieces reach a position midway between successive work devices, whereafter the inner turntable is decelerated and the outer turntable is accelerated until the workpieces arrive at positions of alignment with the next successive work devices.

  • Patent number: 4497496
Abstract: An oil seal element and method of manufacture thereof from polytetrafluoroethylene or the like. A tubular billet having concentric inner and outer cylindrical surfaces is provided with a frusto-conical end face. Arcuate slits of varying depth and angle are cut in the end face of the billet at each of a plurality of angularly spaced positions. Indexing of the billet is synchronized with rotation of the slitting tool.
