  • Patent number: 5189921
Abstract: In a starter system for an internal combustion engine using a planetary reduction gear unit, the internal gear of the planetary reduction gear unit, the center bracket accommodating the internal gear and the pinion cover are joined together so as not to rotate relative to one another by using radial projections provided in the outer circumferential surface of the internal gear which are passed through openings provided in the center bracket and received by associated recesses provided in the pinion cover. The three members are thus prevented from rotating relative to one another with a simple structure which is also easy to assemble. The projection of the internal gear may also be used for securing an annular seal member interposed between an axial end surface of the internal gear and the corresponding shoulder surface of the center bracket.

  • Patent number: 5148713
Abstract: A starter system for an internal combustion engine having a casing provided with a mounting circumferential surface adapted to be substantially closely fitted into an associated mounting bore provided in the engine or a transmission housing associated therewith, and a mounting flange extending radially from the casing and provided with a mounting end surface perpendicular to a longitudinal line of the output shaft of the starter system and spaced from the mounting circumferential surface along the longitudinal line. Because of the presence of the distance between the mounting end surface of the mounting flange and the mounting circumferential surface of the starter casing closely fitted into the mounting bore, the reaction force acting on the pinion is prevented from being amplified and transmitted to the mounting surfaces by means of an undesirable lever action.

  • Patent number: 5128577
Abstract: A DC motor is provided with a brush arrangement in which two parts of the brushes are arranged around the peripheral surface of a commutator so that each line across the opposite brushes with respect to the central axis of the commutator forms an angle, thus the space between the positive and negative brushes is sufficient to mount components thereon. Each width of the brushes is determined by the number of conducting segments in contact with the brushes of the same polarity, affording sufficient current to flow in the brushes.

  • Patent number: 5065605
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of forming a shaped configuration by cold forging at an end of a long element, such as the armature shaft of a starter motor for an automobile. The die used in this method has an inner space in which a section for forming the shaped configuration is provided at one end portion thereof, and the diameter of the inner space gradually increases from the shaped configuration forming section to the other end portion of the inner space. A material is placed in the die from the other end portion of the inner space and then, is forced into the die by a punch to be forged into the shape corresponding to that of the inner space of the die. After the forging, the shaped material is pushed out of the die by a knock-out pin which is inserted into the die in the opposite direction to the direction in which the material is forced.

  • Patent number: 4885692
Abstract: A vehicle cruise control system having an electric actuator for acting upon a throttle valve of a vehicle, a clutch for disconnecting the actuator from the throttle valve, a spring or the like for returning the output end of the clutch to a neutral state and a limit switch for detecting the limit of the motion of the output end of the clutch and discontinuing the supply of electric current to the actuator upon detection of the limit. Since the detection of the lower limit of the stroke of the actuator for decelerating the vehicle is necessary for preventing unnecessary supply of electric current to the actuator and overloading of the actuator, the closed state of the limit switch is tested by supplying an electric current to the actuator so as to decelerate the vehicle prior to starting the normal operation of the vehicle cruise control and determining if the electric current is indeed conducted through the actuator or not.
