  • Patent number: 6648404
Abstract: There is provided a vehicle body side structure that is capable of effectively reinforcing door hinge mounting parts of a pillar. In a vehicle skeleton member forming a closed section by an outer side structure and an inner side structure, a side sill reinforcement is disposed inside the closed section. The side sill reinforcement is provided to extend from a front pillar up to a side sill. The door hinge mounting parts are provided on an external surface of the front pillar. The side sill reinforcement is constructed such that a part disposed along the front pillar has a greater plate thickness than a part extending along the side sill. A support part intended for supporting the reverse side of the door hinge mounting part from the inner side of the outer side structure is provided in the part of the side sill reinforcement, which is disposed along the front pillar.

  • Patent number: 6540286
Abstract: According to a body structure of the present invention, a floor panel member is reinforced by a pair of first members, and the second member comprised of plural pipes is disposed along the width of a vehicle so as to integrate the first members. An end of the second member is extended along the longitudinal side of the vehicle and is fixed by welding in the state of penetrating into a side sill. There is no necessity of providing any reinforcement material because the second member has a high strength continuously along the width of the vehicle. Moreover, there is no necessity of increasing a board thickness for the purpose of securing the rigidity because the second member penetrates into the side sill. On the other hand, the second member can be manufactured by cutting an existing steel pipe to a predetermined side. It is therefore possible to cope with the change in the width of the vehicle only by changing a cutting size.

  • Patent number: 5831389
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling an au room lamp are provided, in which the room lamp is lit up when the ignition key is extracted from the ignition switch with an automotive door being closed, to thereby provide convenience for the driver and the passengers to get out of a car. A control unit (1) detects the on/off states of the ignition switch (2), a door switch (3) and an ignition key insertion/extraction detecting switch (4). If it is judged that the ignition key is extracted from the ignition switch with the door closed, the control unit turns on the room lamp (5) at a second luminance which is lower than a first luminance provided when the room lamp is on with the door being open, keeps the luminance of the room lamp for a predetermined time, and then turns off the room lamp.

  • Patent number: 5271370
Abstract: Diesel fuel is stored in a first fuel tank, while water is stored in a second fuel tank. To use an emulsion fuel, diesel fuel and water are mixed and are caused to enter an injection pipe through a junction located between an injection pump and an injection nozzle. The emulsion fuel is injected through the injection nozzle. The engine is also equipped with exhaust gas recirculation devices to return a portion of the exhaust gas of the engine to an intake pipe of the engine so that some of the exhaust gas is recirculated.

  • Patent number: 5147008
Abstract: A four-wheel steering apparatus for a vehicle includes a hydraulic actuator for steering the rear wheels, and first and second oil pumps. An in-phase steering control valve is connected between the first oil pump and the actuator and outputs first hydraulic output for steering the rear wheels in phase with the front wheels in accordance with a steering state of the front wheels. An antiphase steering control valve is connected between the second oil pump and the actuator and outputs second hydraulic output for steering the rear wheels in opposite phase to the front wheels in accordance with a rate of change in the steering state of the front wheels. The hydraulic actuator combines the first and second hydraulic outputs from the control valves and steers the rear wheels in accordance with the difference between the hydraulic outputs.

  • Patent number: 5052506
Abstract: A control valve includes a first valve having a cylinder and a piston arranged in the cylinder. The piston defines in the cylinder a pressure receiving chamber and first and second output pressure chambers, and is moved by pilot pressure applied to the pressure receiving chamber to change volumes of the first and second output pressure chambers. The output pressure chambers are connected to each other through a throttle control valve which generates pressure difference corresponding to a rate of change in volumes of the output pressure chambers, between the output pressure chambers. A main valve is connected to the throttle control valve and includes an inlet port, output ports, and a valve member located between the input and output ports. The valve member is moved in accordance with the pressure difference between the first and second output pressure chambers to control hydraulic pressure output from the output ports.

  • Patent number: 5031714
Abstract: A steering gear ratio changing apparatus includes a first and second steering shafts arranged to be coaxial with each other. The first steering shaft is coupled to a steering wheel of a vehicle and rotatable integral therewith. The second steering shaft is coupled to a steering gear mechanism and arranged to be rotatable. First pawls are formed on one end of the first steering shaft and arranged at equal intervals along the circumferential direction of the shaft. Second pawls are formed on one end of the second steering shaft, which oppose the end of the first steering shaft, and are arranged at equal intervals along the circumferential direction of the shaft. The first and second steering shafts are coupled with each other by a torsion bar and held thereby so that the first and second pawls are engage with one another with a gap between any two adjacent first and second pawls. The width of the gaps is adjusted by actuators so as to cause a relative rotation between the first and second steering shafts.
