    Abstract: Processed fiber for bonding to a rubber composition. The processed fiber consists of unprocessed fiber treated with a) a first processing liquid having at least one of an isocyanate compound and an epoxy compound, b) a second processing liquid having RFL that includes at least one rubber latex selected from acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber latex and hydrogenated nitrile rubber latex, and c) a third processing liquid having rubber paste including acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber composition dissolved in a solvent and an isocyanate compound. The weight ratio of the isocyanate compound to the acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber composition is from 1/1 to 1/3. The third processing liquid has a solid content of from 3-7%.

    Abstract: In a pop-up structure of the invention, an elevatable member is rotatably disposed on upper portions of a pair of front and rear poles, which is also rotatably provided on a base member. Shielding plates extend between the front and rear poles on both sides thereof. In case the elevatable member is elevated by rotating both poles, even if an elevating height of the elevatable member is high, at least a part of the space formed between the front and rear poles is covered by the shielding plates at the both sides. Therefore, the appearance at the popped-up state of the pop-up structure is improved, and there is no risk of catching foreign materials by the poles or the like when it is collapsed.

    Abstract: A power transmission belt having a body with a length, an inside, an outside, laterally spaced sides, and at least one rib. The body has a compression section, a tension section, and a load carrying element between the inside and outside of the body and extending in a lengthwise direction. The load carrying element is made from twisted polyester fiber filaments having an ethylene-2,6-naphthalate component and a denier of 4,000-8,000. The belt requires a stress of at least 500 N per rib to effect elongation of the belt by 3%. The belt has a dry heat shrinkage stress between 100 N and 200 N after an initial load of 147 N is applied to the belt and the belt is allowed to reside in an atmosphere at a temperature of 100° C. for 30 minutes.

    Abstract: A layer is provided for bonding a conductive plating to a substrate which substrate normally does not provide firm bonding of plating directly thereto. The bonding layer forms a matrix in which are dispersed ultrafine metal particles. The bonding layer is formed in situ on the substrate surface with the metal particles being maintained unaggregated in the matrix as it is formed on the surface. Plating subsequently formed on the outer surface of the bonding layer is effectively firmly bonded to the substrate through the intermediary of the matrix and metal particles distributed therein. The bonding layer includes a fixative formed of an organic compound including a metal and an organic solvent. The bonding layer may further include a film strengthener.

The method further includes the step of magnifying the one laterally spaced surface to identify cracks in the rubber at the fiber portion. Based on at least one of the nature and quantity of cracks in the rubber material, the remaining life of the power transmission belt is estimated.
