    Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there are provided cycloolefin type random copolymer compositions excellent in heat resistance, chemical resistance, rigidity, impact resistance, etc., which comprise(A) a cycloolefin type random copolymer containing an ethylene component and a cycloolefin component and having an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.] of 0.05-10 dl/g as measured at 135.degree.     Abstract: .alpha.-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine methyl ester or the hydrohalide thereof is prepared by esterifying .alpha.-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine or .alpha.-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine which has been formed in situ by treating an N-protected-.alpha.-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine in an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid or a methanol-containing aqueous solution of sulfuric acid in the presence of an alkali metal halide or alkaline earth metal halide in a medium composed of sulfuric acid, water and methanol, thereby to allow the resulting .alpha.-L-aspartyl-L-phenyl-alanine methyl ester to precipitate as its corresponding hydrohalide, and then isolating the hydrohalide; and when the preparation of the methyl ester is desired, neutralizing the hydrohalide.

    Abstract: This invention is a process for the preparation of bisphenol A from acetone and phenol. By this invention, the formation of by-products is extremely decreased and post treatment steps can be simplified.This invention involves the following steps. (1) One mole of acetone is reacted with 4 to 12 moles of phenol in the presence of a sulfonic acid type cation exchange resin catalyst modified with a mercapto group-containing compound such as mercaptoethylamine to convert 20 to 60% of acetone, and (2) the reaction mixture containing unreacted acetone is successively reacted to the presence of the hydrochloric acid catalyst.The formation of by-products such as 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane, Dianin's compound and the like is remarkably reduced by the process of this invention.

    Abstract: A process for producing a cyclic urea is provided. The process comprises reacting a diamine expressed by the formula (II)R-HN-R'-NH-R (II)wherein R represents hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group and R' represent dimethylene group, a lower alkyl group-substituted dimethylene group, trimethylene group, a lower alkyl group-substituted trimethylene group, tetramethylene group, a lower alkyl group-substituted tetramethylene group, but a case where R represents hydrogen atom and R' represent dimethylene group, a case where R represents hydrogen atom and R' represents a lower alkyl group-substituted dimethylene group and a case where R represent methyl group and R' represents dimethylene group are excluded, with phosgene in the presence of a dehydrochlorinating agent. In the process, the diamine is first converted to its hydrochloride, followed by reacting the hydrochloride with phosgene in water solvent while maintaining a pH of the reaction liquid in the range of 5.0 to 8.

    Abstract: Extract of tea leaves or (-)-epigallocatechin gallate as the principal ingredient of the extract forms a complex with active aluminum hydroxide. The animal test using rats has established that these complexes have therapeutic effect for gastric ulcers, e.g. pylorus-ligated ulcer and indomethacin-induced ulcer, when orally administered. Tests were also undertaken for the effect on the secretion of gastric juice and acute toxicity of these complexes using rats and mice as the test animals.
