  • Patent number: 4003801
Abstract: Water vapor generated in concentrating an aqueous urea solution and containing a small amount of aqueous urea solution mist, ammonia and carbon dioxide is treated to recover urea and ammonia values. The water vapor is introduced into a separator wherein all of the urea solution mist is separated together with a part of the ammonia and the carbon dioxide to form a first condensate. The water vapor is then fed into a surface cooler wherein the water vapor is indirectly cooled to form a second condensate. The first condensate is used for process water and the second condensate is subjected to rectification to separate ammonia and carbon dioxide contained therein in the form of a mixed gas, which is recovered, from the remaining waste water free of ammonia and carbon dioxide.

  • Patent number: 3994932
Abstract: 1-Aminoanthraquinone of high purity is obtained either by catalytically hydrogenating 5-nitro-1,4,4a,9a-tetrahydroanthraquinone dissolved in a polar organic solvent such as methyl cellosolve (i.e., .beta.-hydroxyethyl methyl ether) in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst such as palladium on carbon or Raney nickel and then treating the resultant hydrogenated product with a base such as sodium hydroxide or pyridine, or by catalytically hydrogenating the 5-nitro-1,4,4a,9a-tetrahydroanthraquinone in the presence of both the hydrogenation catalyst and the base. By the action of the base, the 5-nitro-1,4,4a,9a-tetrahydroanthraquinone nucleus releases hydrogen atoms and is converted to the anthraquinone nucleus, and the released hydrogen serves to reduce the nitro group. Where an excess of hydrogen is introduced into the reaction system for hydrogenation, 1-aminoanthraquinone is further reduced into a leuco type compound thereof which can easily be returned to 1-aminoanthraquinone by oxidation.

  • Patent number: 3985818
Abstract: Unsaturated dimers which contain 2,4-diphenyl-4-methyl-1-pentene as their main component (i.e., in an amount of greater than 95%) are produced by reacting an .alpha.-methylstyrene at a temperature of from 20.degree. to 100.degree.C. in the presence of a sulfonic acid type cation-exchange resin catalyst and in the further presence of a primary or secondary monohydric alcohol containing from 2 to 5 carbon atoms. By this reaction, side products including a saturated dimer of 1,1,3-trimethyl-3-phenylindane, trimers and higher polymers are produced only in an extremely small amount. The unsaturated dimers are very useful as a molecular weight modifier when employed, instead of dodecylmercaptans, for the production of polymers such as an ABS resin, an AS resin, and the like.

  • Patent number: 3981035
Abstract: A collapsible or foldable high speed boat including a hull structure having no frames. The boat comprises a plurality of substantially triangular hinged plates joined in such a manner as to be waterproof and defining a hull structure such as that of a high speed boat. The hull structure includes a plurality of inflection points, these points being at the foremost end on the gunwale line of the stem, at the foremost end of the keel, at the widest chine line at the center portion of the hull, at the widest gunwale portion at the outermost end on the keel of the stern, and at the outermost end of the gunwale line of the stern. These inflection points can be respectively joined by lines which form substantially triangular planes. These planes define the location and shape of the various hinged plates defining the hull structure. Thus the hinged plates are arranged in a relationship formed by joining in line plural inflection points on the hull lines.
