    Abstract: Disclosed is a filler for ink jet recording paper, said filler being composed of amorphous silica particles having a median diameter, measured by the coulter counter method, of 2 to 15 .mu.m, an oil absorption of at least 180 ml/100 g, a refractive index, measured by the solvent method, of at least 1.450, and a moisture absorption, measured when it is caused to absorb moisture for 200 hours at a relative humidity of 90% and a temperature of 25.degree. C., of at least 35%, and a coating of a compound of a metal of Group II of the periodic table on the surface of the silica particles in an amount of 0.5 to 20% by weight.

    Abstract: A granular stabilizer for chlorine-containing polymers, which is formed by granulating a hardly fusible or infusible powdery stabilizer for chlorine-containing polymers or a mixture of said powdery stabilizer with a powdery stabilizer aid through an organic solid binder or dispersion medium, wherein respective primary particles of said powdery stabilizer or said powdery mixture are surface-treated with the organic solid binder or dispersion medium in an amount of 2 to 15 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of said powdery stabilizer or said powdery mixture, which is smaller than the critical liquid absorption of said powdery, and said primary particles are granulated into particles having an average particle size of 0.1 to 2 mm by fusion bonding of the surface treatment layers of the organic solid binder or dispersion medium.

    Abstract: A synthetic lamellar magnesium phyllosilicate has as the main component a composition represented by the following formula:Mg.sub.3 Si.sub.4 O.sub.10 (OH).sub.2.nH.sub.2 O (1)wherein n is a number of up to 5, and has X-ray diffraction peaks at spacings of 4.5-4.6 .ANG., 2.5-2.6 .ANG. and 1.5-1.6 .ANG., wherein the lamination asymmetry index (Is) defined by the following formula:Is=tan .theta..sub.2 /tan .theta..sub.1 (2)wherein.theta..sub.1 stands for the angle formed by the peak perpendicular and the peak tangent on the small diffraction angle side in said X-ray diffraction peak at a spacing of 4.5-4.6 .ANG., and.theta..sub.2 stands for the angle formed by the peak perpendicular and the peak tangent on the large diffraction angle side in said X-ray diffraction peak,is at least 3.0, the BET specific surface area is at least 300 m.sup.2 /g and the Methylene Blue decolorizing power (JIS K-1470) is at least 100 ml/g.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a composite body comprising amorphous and porous silica or silica-alumina and a layer of an aluminum-containing phylosilicate formed on surfaces of primary particles of the silica or silica-alumina. This composite phylosilicate is obtained by reacting a water-soluble silicate, a water-soluble zinc salt or magnesium salt and a water-soluble aluminum salt or aluminate in an aqueous medium containing a sol or gel of silica or silica-alumina. This composite phylosilicate has a large specific surface area and a large pore volume and has both the properties of a solid acid and the properties of a solid base.

    Abstract: An inorganic filler composed of a modified montmorillonite group clay mineral and having an X-ray diffraction pattern inherent to montmorillonite, an oil absorption of at least 100 ml/100 g and a Hunter whiteness of at least 80%. The modified clay mineral is produced by reacting a clay mineral of the montmorillonite group which 10 to 200% by weight based on the dry weight of the mineral, of an alkaline earth metal hydroxide in the presence of water, and reacting the reaction product with a salt of a metal of Group IIb, III or IV of the periodic table containing an acid radical which gives a soluble alkaline earth metal salt upon reaction. The inorganic filler is especially suitable for use in lightweight paper.

For example, this synthetic mineral is valuable as a color developer for a leuco dye.
