  • Patent number: 5833840
Abstract: A catalyst composition which comprises a crystalline metallosilicate having the structure of zeolite Beta, phosphorus and a matrix that is substantially free of crystalline aluminum phosphate which has improved resistance to steam deactivation at which has higher cracking activity than analogous catalysts prepared without phosphorus. The crystalline metallosilicate may be used in the as-synthesized form or in the calcined form. Also included is the method to produce the catalyst composition and methods for the use of catalysts prepared by the present method in organic conversion processes. Specific embodiments of the invention involve various techniques for preparation of catalyst containing phosphorus and crystalline metallosilicates having the structure of zeolite Beta. Catalysts prepared according to the method of this invention are useful for organic compound, e.g., hydrocarbon compound, conversion processes.

  • Patent number: 5830346
Abstract: Oxides of nitrogen (NO.sub.x) emissions from an FCC regenerator are reduced by operating the regenerator in partial CO burn mode to produce flue gas with more CO than O.sub.2 and with NO.sub.x precursors. This flue gas is then enriched with controlled amounts of oxygen and charged over catalyst, preferably Group VIII noble metal on a support, to convert most NO.sub.x precursors to nitrogen. Flue gas may then be charged to a CO boiler. Eliminating more than 90% of NO.sub.x emissions is possible by operating the FCC regenerator in partial CO burn mode, then adding air and catalytically converting NO.sub.x precursors at substoichiometric conditions. Conversion of NO.sub.x, if formed in the regenerator, may be achieved as well.

  • Patent number: 5824214
Abstract: Heavy crude oil containing at least 1% by weight water is hydrotreated and upgraded while being produced downhole in a production well. During production the heavy crude oil containing water is subjected to sonic energy at a low frequency of 400 Hz to 10 kHz downhole in the presence of a metal hydrogenation catalyst that causes the water in the crude oil to react and form hydrogen which then hydrotreats and upgrades the heavy crude oil during production. In another embodiment, if the heavy crude oil does not contain water, the hydrogen may be formed in-situ by contacting the heavy crude oil downhole with a chemical compound comprising ammonia, hydrazine and formic acid that in the presence of a metal hydrogenation catalyst and sonic energy causes the chemical compound to react and form hydrogen which then hydrotreats the heavy crude oil during production. Suitable catalysts include nickel on zinc dust, platinum on carbon and palladium on carbon, preferably nickel on zinc dust.

  • Patent number: 5820837
Abstract: A treatment method for removing acid gases by contacting a sour gas stream with a solvent (e.g. an organic amine) which absorbs H.sub.2 S in preference to CO.sub.2 and hydrocarbons. The rich solvent is then regenerated by selectively separating the absorbed hydrocarbons in a first flash, a large portion of the CO.sub.2 in a high-temperature, low-pressure second flash tank, and the substantially all of the remaining acid gases in a high-temperature, low-pressure stripper. The regenerated solvent is recycled and the recovered acid gases are processed to recover sulphur from the H.sub.2 S. The CO.sub.2 recovered from the second tank is contacted with a second solvent to provide high-quality CO.sub.2.

  • Patent number: 5822269
Abstract: A method for separating and pre-processing vibratory source data includes varying the phase of vibratory sources according to two patterns. A first pattern is used for odd numbered sources while a second pattern is used for even numbered sources. Each pattern begins with a zero phase shift, the zero phase shift occurring at the sweep number corresponding to the position number of the source. The first pattern is one of zero phase shift, ninety degree phase shift, ninety degree phase shift and one hundred eighty degree phase shift. The second pattern is one of zero phase shift, one hundred eighty degree phase shift, ninety degree phase shift and ninety degree phase shift. The patterns are alternated for each source, the beginning of the pattern corresponds to the position of the source in a line. The first source begins with the first pattern. The second source begins with the second pattern, with zero starting at the second sweep.

  • Patent number: 5799482
Abstract: A process for integration of an autothermal reforming unit and a cogeneration power plant in which the reforming unit has two communicating fluid beds. The first fluid bed is a reformer reactor containing inorganic metal oxide and supplemental oxidant gas and which is used to oxidize light hydrocarbons, primarily by oxidant supplied from the inorganic metal oxide and secondarily supplied by supplemental oxidant gas, at conditions sufficient to produce a mixture of synthesis gas, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. The second fluid bed is a combustor-regenerator which receives reduced inorganic metal oxide from the first fluid bed and which provides heat to heat the inorganic metal by combusting fuel gas in direct contact with the inorganic metal oxide producing hot flue gas. In preferred embodiments, steam is also fed to the reformer reactor and a catalyst may be used with the inorganic metal oxide and supplemental oxidant gas. The supplemental oxidant gas can be oxygen, enriched air or air.

  • Patent number: 5785933
Abstract: A sulfuric acid-catalyzed alkylation reactor system is provided for alkylating isoparaffins with olefins to produce hydrocarbon alkylates. The reactor vessel has a vertical cylindrical wall, a top, an inverted conical bottom portion, internal perforated baffles and multiple emulsion injection inlet pipes, disposed tangentially to and communicating with the interior of the reactor vessel. The emulsion injection inlet pipes have static mixers incorporated therein and tangential injection of the emulsion imparts a circular motion to the contents of the reactor vessel, resulting in partial phase separation of the reacted products. The reactor vessel communicates with a settling vessel through a transfer pipe having a vertical portion suspended within the central portion of the reactor vessel and a horizontal portion sealably extending through the cylindrical wall of the reactor vessel.

  • Patent number: 5779746
Abstract: A cyclone and process for fluidized catalytic cracking of heavy oils is disclosed. Gas and entrained solids are added tangentially around a vapor outlet tube in a cylindrical tube cyclone body. Solids and some gas is withdrawn via a plurality of openings radially and longitudinally distributed in the cylindrical sidewall of the cyclone body. Distributed withdrawal replaces or reduces conventional underflow of solids from an end of cyclone outlet and reduces solids reentrainment. 0-5 micron particle removal is enhanced by reducing eddy formation and particle bouncing near the cyclone sidewall. The device may be used as an FCC regenerator third stage separator.
