Abstract: The pour point of a catalytically dewaxed hydrocarbon oil is determined manually by the ASTM D-97-66 method and also by automatic apparatus such as the Herzog Electronic Pour Point Automatic MC 850 apparatus. A substantial divergence of the two indicates contamination by a waxy hydrocarbon oil such as the feedstock to the dewaxing process.
Abstract: This invention provides a novel base-exchanged shape-selective hydrogenation-dehydrogenation-dehydrocyclization catalyst composition which is a zeolite matrix having a silica-alumina ratio of at least 12, and having a shape-selective functioning intrazeolitic Group VIII metal content between about 0.01-10 weight percent. The zeolite catalyst is adapted for efficient shape-selective metal function hydrogenolysis, dehydrogenation and aromatization conversion of hydrocarbon mixtures, with a minimized acid-catalyzed cracking activity.
Abstract: A thermoplastic bag structure having, in its lay-flat condition, a front and rear bag wall, a two-film heat seal bottom; the outer side margins of the full length of said bag being folded toward but spaced from each other. The top most edge of each fold is heat sealed through the four films thereof along line corresponding to the width of the folds. An open mouth top portion being characterized by having double film handle loops at opposite ends of said mouth, said double film loops being extensions of the folded regions of said bags and the corresponding regions of said front and rear walls. The bag structures can be unitized by providing a detachable tab at the bag mouth opening and unitizing the bag structures through this tab.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel method for improving the recovery of hydrocarbon fluids from oil shale. The method comprises treating a mixture of oil shale and hydrocarbon fluid at a temperature below the retorting temperature of the shale and for a period of time sufficient to recover product hydrocarbon fluids in amount equivalent to at least 100 percent Fischer Assay.
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for de-entraining liquid droplets from a vaporous stream as it leaves a flash zone of a separation tower. The removal of the droplets is accomplished by a chimney which directs vapor flow through two direction changes of about 180.degree. each. The chimney comprises a riser and hat which have an annulus between them. The cross-sectional area of the annulus is less than that of the cross-sectional area of the riser, so the momentum imparted to the entrained droplets drives them downwardly while the lighter vapor undergoes the second direction change and continues upwardly. The chimney may further reduce entrainment by having an extended portion of the riser below a plate and a lip attached to the inside perimeter of an opening of the riser above the tray. Preferably a lower portion of the riser has a larger cross-sectional area than an upper portion of the riser.
Abstract: A process for simultaneously hydrotreating and dewaxing petroleum fractions is described. The process utilizes a single catalyst system which includes a hydrotreating component impregnated on a controlled pore size base and at least two catalyst components selected from any of an intermediate pore zeolite, a large pore zeolite or Zeolite Beta, and a large pore non-zeolite catalyst.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for hydrogenating or partially hydrogenating polynuclear aromatics by contacting them with manganese nodules in the presence of hydrogen at elevated temperatures. The resulting partially hydrogenated products are useful as hydrogen donors in processes such as thermal cracking.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making an in situ disposable propellant canister for utilization in controlled pulse fracturing. Said canister is composed of a porous light fabric material in combination with a gel solution. The gel creates a formable mass after solidification. Said mass can be made of a gel thickness sufficient to support and contain a propellant. Upon ignition of said propellant, the gelled canister is destroyed thereby alleviating a clean up operation.
Abstract: A system for determining the position of a plurality of remotely located switches having a binary weighted current controlling means connected to each switch for providing a waveform having a unique duty cycle corresponding to the position of each of the switches. The duty cycle is decoded at a local test station to provide digital output data indicative of the position of each of the switches. The duty cycle encoder includes a switching means connected across a two conductor line that terminates the cycle of an input waveform generated by a source generator at said local test station. The current controlling means controls the output of a constant current source which depends upon the number of switches that are open and closed. A timing means is responsive to the output of said constant current source for triggering the switching means. The resultant waveform at the local test station has a duty cycle that is decoded to indicate the position of the remote switches.
Abstract: An improved multistage hydrodewaxing process for hydrodewaxing a hydrocarbon feedstock, such as a heavy or light distillate, is disclosed. A two-phase mixture of a hydrogen-rich gas stream and a liquid hydrocarbon is passed through a series of spaced catalyst beds in a single reactor, reaction vapors containing olefins, are withdrawn at each interspace between beds and replaced with hydrogen-rich saturated gas.
