Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for conversion of LPG hydrocarbons into distillate fuels by integrating LPG dehydrogenation with catalytic oligomerization and recovering the distillates produced. The described method and apparatus may comprise an H.sub.2 separation zone, wherein a lean oil stream contacts a dehydrogenation effluent stream to produce a C.sub.3.sup.+ rich liquid stream to feed oligomerization. An energy efficient separation zone comprising dual debutanizers is disclosed. In addition, a method and apparatus is disclosed for a fluid bed dehydrogenation reactor zone using an FCC catalyst contaminated with a metal, such as nickel and/or vanadium.
Abstract: A catalyst composition for polymerizing alpha-olefins in a gas phase continuous process is prepared by combining a catalyst precursor with a catalyst activator in such proportions that the polymer product comprises about 9.times.10.sup.-7 to about 18.times.10.sup.-7 gram-moles of the activator per gram of the polymer produced. The use of the activator in these proportions lowers the partial pressure of the monomers used in the process without sacrificing quality of the product. The catalyst precursor is prepared by reacting a carrier having OH groups with a stoichiometric excess, with respect to the OH groups, of an organomagnesium composition, and subsequently reacting the product with a transition metal compound.

Abstract: Heavy metal salts of certain branched chain carboxylic acids significantly improve the filterability, pour point and cloud point of liquid hydrocarbyl fuels when incorporated therein.
Abstract: Silicophosphoaluminates are crystallized from a two-phase reaction mixture comprising sources of silicon oxide, aluminum oxide and phosphorus oxide and a suitable directing agent. The silicophosphoaluminates produced have ion exchange properties and are readily convertible to catalytically active material.
Abstract: A liquid hydrocarbon and an insoluble displacing fluid are passed through a core sample from a subsurface formation. The two-phase effluent flow out of the core sample is collected in a container where the two phases separate into an overlying fluid phase and an underlying fluid phase and the volumes of each phase are measured as an indication of the permeability of the core sample. Such volumes are measured by placing fluid level detectors in the container and detecting the movements of the air-fluid interface of the top of the overlying fluid phase and the fluid-fluid interface between the two phases as the fluid is drained from the container.
Abstract: A resin composition is disclosed which comprises a blend of from about 40 to about 95 percent by weight thereof of a first polymeric component and from about 50 to about 5 percent by weight thereof of a second polymeric component, the blend being characterized by an interior region containing a disproportionately higher content of first polymeric component and an exterior region containing a disproportionately higher content of second polymeric component, the first polymeric component being selected from the group consisting of amorphous homopolymer of styrene or lower alkyl substituted styrene and amorphous copolymer of styrene and/or alkyl substituted styrene containing up to about 40 weight percent thereof of at least one other olefinic monomer copolymerized therewith and the second polymeric component being selected from the group consisting of crystalline homopolymer of propylene and crystalline copolymer of propylene containing up to about 30 weight percent thereof of at least one other olefinic monomer
Abstract: A riser connector system for securing a marine riser to a marine bottom. The system is comprised of a landing base which is preset on the marine bottom and a connector means which is connected to the lower end of the core of the riser. The landing base has an inverted 45.degree. cone-shaped cover plate which overlies and protects connector heads on the base. The cover plate has openings therethrough in vertical alignment with the connector heads which are normally closed by spring-biased doors to prevent trash from accumulating in the heads. The connector means has an inverted cone-shaped funnel which is adapted to cooperate with the cover plate when assembled and has flowline guidelines therethrough vertically aligned with the openings in the cover plate. A target on the underside of the connector means is viewed by a TV camera positioned on the base to orient the riser during assembly.
Abstract: An acoustic transmitter is employed in a borehole logging tool for generating low frequency acoustic energy waves. A tube of piezoelectric material is sealed at both ends and filled with liquid. A pliable boot surrounds such piezoelectric tube. At least one passageway communicates the inside of the piezoelectric tube with the inner surface of the boot. Differing electrical polarities are applied to the inner and outer surfaces of the piezoelectric tube. These electrical polarities are modulated to excite the piezoelectric tube to resonate at a frequency controlled by the inertia of the liquid in the passageway and the mass of the liquid inside the piezoelectric tube.
Abstract: This invention provides a novel hydrocracking catalyst composition that contains Zeolite Beta having a framework boron content, a solid source of alumina, and a hydrogenation component. It further provides a low-pressure hydrocracking process that uses such composition.
Abstract: A catalyst composition for polymerizing alpha-olefins is prepared by treating a carrier containing OH groups with an organomagnesium composition and contacting the thus-formed magnesium-containing carrier with a solution of at least one tetravalent vanadium compound. Alternatively, the solution may also contain at least one tetravalent titanium compound in addition to the vanadium compound, thereby producing catalysts containing both, vanadium and titanium. Also disclosed is a process for polymerizing alpha-olefins in the presence of the catalysts of the invention.
Abstract: A diffusion flame reactor for cracking hydrocarbon gas has an oxygen-deficient zone in the center of the flame or in the center of an array of flames. Propane, n-octane, iso-octane and decalin are cracked to ethylene, acetylene, propylene, butenes, and butadienes which are withdrawn from the flame.
Abstract: Methane is converted to higher, more reactive, hydrocarbon products by a diffusion flame. Methane is converted to C.sub.2 + products by pyrolysis in the interior of the flame with oxidizing gas flowing outside of the flame. More reactive products are withdrawn from the center of the flame by a probe tube and cooled by the flowing oxidizing gas to stop the reaction.
Abstract: A process wherein energy generated from a high impulse device is used to jar, loosen, or dislodge scale from a wellbore, downhole production equipment, or near well formation flow channels. Such jarred, loosened, or dislodged scale allows for increased amounts of scale-forming ions to be removed. Alterwards, an emulsified liquid membrane system containing surfactants therein sufficient to remove scale-forming ions is placed in said wellbore. Said emulsified membrane system is removed when the scale-forming ions have been absorbed therein.

Abstract: A supported solid catalyst composition for polymerizing alpha-olefins is prepared by treating a carrier with a transition metal compound. The carrier utilized in the synthesis must have such an average pore diameter that the resulting catalyst composition has an average pore diameter of at least about 170 Angstroms. The catalyst composition has higher productivity than similar catalyst compositions of lower average pore diameter, and it produces polymers of lower density and higher melt and high load melt indexes than such similar catalyst compositions of lower average pore diameter. Also disclosed is a process for polymerizing alpha-olefins in the presence of the catalyst of the invention.
