  • Patent number: 5238182
Abstract: A mailer type business form having four parts is produced from two sheets, to define a mailer having top and bottom plies formed from one sheet, and first and second intermediate plies formed from another sheet. The top and first intermediate plies have aligned die cut windows in them, and the second intermediate ply forms a return envelope with the bottom ply. A combination outgoing address for the mailer, and return address for the return envelope, are printed on a portion of the second intermediate ply readily visible through the die cut windows. During production of the mailer, slugs are cut out of one of the sheets, and removed by vacuum or a blast of pressurized gas, and the first and second sheets are merged together, adhesive being applied to the sheets to attach them together.

  • Patent number: 5238178
Abstract: A multi page mailer type business form is constructed by applying a first adhesive pattern to the top sheet bottom face perimeter areas, a second adhesive pattern to the bottom sheet top face perimeter areas, and applying third and fourth adhesive patterns to the middle sheet top and bottom face perimeter areas respectively. Variable information is printed on the top, bottom and middle sheets including machine readable identification information (bar code) which is common to the sheets that are to be assembled into a final multi page mailer. The set is accumulated, and verified by scanning the identification of information, and then the perimeter adhesive patterns are sealed. The adhesive is preferably pressure sensitive adhesive, and the final mailer produced has a book-like construction. The adhesive patterns are such that the top and bottom sheets can be provided in a stack without the perimeter adhesive patterns aligning, and the middle sheets can be provided in a separate stock.

  • Patent number: 5238164
Abstract: Continuous business forms are detached and disposed in offset stacks. Continuous forms being fed into a conventional detacher are sensed by a first optical sensor, and after detachment are conveyed by a roller conveyor away from the detacher in a first direction. A guide rail is elongated in generally the first direction and the detached forms have an edge which engages the guide rail so that all the forms in a particular group are aligned when discharged from the conveyor into a stack. The guide rail is mounted on guide rods, for movement in opposite second and third directions, both generally perpendicular to the first direction, so as to change the position of the edge of detached forms in a subsequent group of forms so that consecutive stacks are offset from each other.

  • Patent number: 5238183
Abstract: A mailer type business form and intermediate are constructed from a single quadrate sheet of paper having first through fourth edges and first and second fold lines, which cooperate to divide the sheet into four panels. The first panel has a cutout positioned to overlie an outgoing address printed on the second panel, when the sheet is folded about the first fold line. Reply address indicia, including bar coding, is printed on the second face of the second panel. Two strips of transfer tape on the first face of the fourth panel cooperate to allow the second and fourth panels to be formed into a return envelope by the recipient. A return envelope flap with rewettable adhesive strip is formed from a second panel. Strips of heat or pressure activated adhesive are disposed adjacent the edges and/or first fold line of various panels in order to seal the sheet into a mailer when folded about the fold lines, and perforation lines are disposed adjacent each of the adhesive strips.

  • Patent number: 5211793
Abstract: A pressure sealer for sealing pressure sensitive adhesive strips on business forms has only a single set of sealing rollers forming a nip. One roller is gear driven by a D.C. motor, and a spring applies a biasing force to press the rollers into contact with each other. A forward sensor and a reverse sensor are positioned just before the nip of the rollers, in or above a support surface for business forms, and cooperate with a computer chip to control the motor to drive a business form in a first direction between the rollers, until it has almost completely passed through the nip. Then the motor is reversed to drive the business form through the nip again in a second direction opposite the first direction. The business form is manually fed to, and removed from, the nip.

  • Patent number: 5209809
Abstract: A distinct conveyor assembly allows a business form sealer--such as a pressure sealer--to operate with forms that have been detached from a continuous supply. Individual forms are detached from the continuous supply while being conveyed in a first direction, to form shingled forms having irregularly positioned side edges. The forms are deshingled by conveying them from the detacher at high speed (e.g. an increase in speed of about ten times or more), and they are registered while being conveyed in the first direction at high speed. Registration may take place by moving the forms against one side edge, or moving them between funnelled side edges to ultimately engage straight guides on both side edges. After registration, the forms may be fed directly to the sealer, or into the top of a hopper, and then withdrawn from the bottom of the hopper and passed through a folder before being fed to the sealer.

  • Patent number: 5193850
Abstract: A business form, and intermediate for constructing the form, suitable for use as a packing list or invoice. A regular (bond) sheet of paper is constructed into three approximately equal size panels which are Z-folded about fold lines. The first face of the first panel has address indicia printed on it, while the second face of the third panel has two or more strips of transfer tape disposed on it, spaced from each other and parallel to the lines of weakness, facilitating attachment of the form to a package. Invoice information is preferably printed on the first face of the second and third panels. The panels are held together in a packaging slip configuration by strips of pressure seal adhesive. In use, by detaching various portions of the form along perforations the form can be folded about a pressure seal adhesive line between the second and third panels second face adjacent the second fold line, and along the second fold line so that the first face second and third panels (invoices) are readily seen.
