Abstract: In a DSM-CC receiver (12), a signal comprising a periodically repeated plurality of data sections is received. Storage means (14) is provided for caching the data sections included in the signal, and said storage means incorporates a file management mechanism based on file names. Each data section is received (100) under a corresponding file name, and the received file names are modified (140) within the receiver to distinguish between previous or subsequent versions of the same data sections of the signal that are stored in said storage means. Files currently in use are not overwritten, but are marked (135) for later deletion (155). Individual files can be extracted from DSM-CC modules and cache. In this case, individual file names are modified by reference to version information received for the module as a whole.

Abstract: A media transfer method and apparatus enable media to be separated and discharged out of a media cassette of a media dispenser with a uniform transfer interval. The media transfer apparatus includes a pickup roller in contact with media waiting to be discharged, so as to separate and transfer the media sheet by sheet. A main feed roller and a delivery roller transfer a separated sheet of the media to a media transfer route. A sensor detects a front end of the separated sheet, having passed through a juncture between the main feed roller and the delivery roller. When the sensor detects the front end of the separated sheet, a power supplied to the pickup roller is stopped, and the separated sheet continues to be transferred by the driving power of the main feed roller and the delivery roller.

  • Publication number: 20050141565
Abstract: The invention refers to one of a number of nodes of a communication system. The nodes are connected to a communication media for transmitting data among the nodes. Said one node comprises a communication controller, across which the node is connected to the communication media, and a bus guardian for controlling access of the communication controller to the communication media. In order to provide a cheap but nevertheless reliable way for monitoring the synchronized clock signal of a node of a communication system and in particular for detecting deviations of the synchronized clock signal it is suggested that a synchronized clock signal from the communication controller is made available to the bus guardian, and that the bus guardian comprises means for monitoring the synchronized clock signal using a bus guardian internal clock signal, which is generated by means of an electronic circuit and which is less accurate than the synchronized clock signal to be monitored.

  • Publication number: 20050141613
Abstract: A data processing apparatus (800) has an input (810) for receiving a first and second sequence of frame-based A/V data. A processor (830) edits the two sequences forming a third combined sequence. So-called “I-frames” are intra-coded, without reference to any other frame of the sequence. “P-frames” are coded with reference to one prior reference frame, and “B-frames” are coded with reference to one prior and one subsequent reference frame. The referential coding of a frame is based on motion vectors in the frame indicating similar macro blocks in the frame referred to. The processor identifies frames in the first sequence up to and including a first edit point and frames in the second sequence starting at a second edit point that have lost a reference frame. The processor (830) re-encodes each identified B-frames into a corresponding re-encoded frame by deriving motion vectors of the re-encoded frame solely from motion vectors of the original B-frame.

  • Publication number: 20050140443
Abstract: A low noise differential amplifier has a pair of single ended common-gate or common-base circuits and cross coupling of an input of one of the pair to the gate or base of the other one of the pair. This cross-coupling puts the differential input voltage over the Gate-Source of the common-gate transistor (or Base-Emitter of the common base transistor). This means that the same input impedance and gain can be made with half the current compared to a basic common-gate topology. The cross-coupling means the noise generated by the positive side of the common-gate structure ends up partly on the negative output and vice versa, and so the Noise Figure can be less than 3 dB.

  • Publication number: 20050141863
Abstract: A device for rendering real time information arranged in cells constituted by units encoded at a variable bit rate, e.g. video on a DVD, is described. The device has various trick play modes for rendering the information at a different speeds based on speed pointers. A limited amount of speed pointers is included in the information stream. The device has a calculation unit 32 for calculating further speed pointers based on estimating the playback time of the units by retrieving cell playback information (C-PBIT) that includes the addresses of the first unit and the last unit within the cell and a cell playback time, retrieving a unit address map (VTS-VOBU-ADMAP) that includes the addresses of the units, determining a number of units within the cell by determining a position of said first and last unit in the unit address map, and dividing the cell playback time by the number of units.

  • Publication number: 20050144369
Abstract: Memory capacity requirements in systems-on-chip have led to the use of DRAM-based memory devices. A property of these devices is the burst-oriented access of data. These bursts can be considered as successive non-overlapping blocks of data in the memory that can only be accessed as an entity. Therefore, when a data entity is accessed, it is always aligned with a grid that has the same granularity as the data entities. The size of the data entities is determined by the length of the burst and the width of the memory bus. A way to refine the alignment grid although the amount of bytes per burst remains equal is proposed. A solution for a memory controller is presented that features separate address busses for several parallel memory devices instead of a shared address bus. Due to the refined alignment grid, the amount of transfer overhead can be reduced significantly. The drawback of the invention for off-chip memory devices is the increase in the system costs and the power dissipation.

  • Patent number: 6912258
Abstract: A single integrated circuit multi-standard demodulator includes an adaptive inverse channel estimator for frequency domain equalization which employs a recursive least square cost function in estimating the inverse channel from the received signal and an error estimate. Utilizing a diagonal correlation matrix, the solution to may be determined utilizing fewer computational resources than required by conventional frequency domain equalizers, shifting from a computational intensive to memory intensive implementation. The memory requirement is fully satisfied by memory available within conventional OFDM decoders, and the necessary computational resources may be readily mapped to the resources available within such decoders, improving integrated circuit cost-effectiveness of the multi-standard demodulator.
