Abstract: Various appliances linked up by a bus that can transmit video data form the system, and functionality modules themselves connected to the bus form certain appliances. A command enables to select functionality modules in various appliances at a time, to command the switch-on of these modules and to establish exchanges of data between these modules. A substantially virtual appliance may thus be formed by the combination of functionality modules that are found in separate appliances.
Abstract: The storage capacitor of an active matrix liquid crystal display is formed to have a second electrode (28) that laterally overlaps a first electrode (10). The drain (30) of a thin film transistor extends across the gate electrode (2). The gate electrode (2) and the first electrode (10) of the storage capacitor are formed from a single metallization layer. The width of the gate electrode (2) and the first electrode (10) will tend to vary in parallel, as a result of process variation. This parallel variation tends to cancel out subsequent variation in the kick back voltage.

Abstract: A filter (10) for use in a water heating vessel, such as an electric kettle, to filter sedimentary material in the water includes a scale collector (25), for example in the form of a compacted mesh block, carried on the filter. The block can be supported by a carrier member (27) permanently or detachably mounted on the filter frame, preferably towards an end of the filter closest to the bottom of the vessel.
Abstract: A matrix display device (60) comprises an array of pixels for producing a display output in response to drive signal voltages using an inversion drive scheme. Display artefacts, especially flicker, are corrected for by connecting together, in parallel, two pixels (31), previously addressed with respective drive signal voltages of opposite polarity, and measuring a residual voltage caused by a difference in charge stored on the two pixels due to a DC offset present in the pixels. The measured voltage is used to modify subsequent drive signal voltages for the pixels in order to reduce the measured voltage, i.e. towards zero, thus reducing display artefacts caused by the DC offset in the pixels. The invention is particularly applicable to transmissive type liquid crystal display devices.
Abstract: In a system for controlling an apparatus having a dedicated user interface, where parts of the dedicated user interface communicate with each other using a dedicated user interface message protocol, the system comprises a browser adapted to display a generic user interface, to issue requests due to user interaction with the generic user interface and to accept notifications comprising data or events. A translation system is configured to receive issued requests, to translate the requests and to communicate them using the dedicated user interface message protocol to one of the parts of the dedicated user interface, and to receive communications from the parts of the dedicated user interface using the dedicated user interface message protocol, to translate the communications into notifications and to pass them to the browser.
Abstract: An apparatus for maintaining an optical gap between a pellicle and a reticle in a photolithography system includes a frame defining first and second opposing surfaces, a reticle mated to the first opposing surface using magnetic coupling; and a pellicle mated to the second opposing surface using magnetic coupling.
Abstract: An amplifier (AMP) is provided with a pair of choppers (CHPi,CHPo) in order to reduce the DC-offset and the noise produced by the amplifier (AMP). To obtain an optimal noise reduction the pair of choppers (CHPi,CHPo) operate on a high frequency. As a result the DC-offset cancellation is not optimal because a so-called charge injection of the switches in the pair of choppers (CHPi,CHPo) produces a DC-offset. To overcome this problem the amplifier (AMP) is further provided with further offset cancellation means which are for example formed by a further pair of choppers (CHPfi,CHPfo). This further pair of choppers (CHPfi,CHPfo) operates on a relatively low frequency. The combination of the pair of choppers (CHPi,CHPo) and the further pair of choppers (CHPfi,CHPfo) guarantees an optimal DC-offset cancellation as well as an optimal noise cancellation.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a magnetic tunnel junction device, in which a stack (1) comprising two electrode layers (3, 7) and a barrier layer (5) extending in between is formed. One of the electrode layers is structured by means of etching, in which, during etching, a part of this layer is made thinner by removing material until a rest layer (7r) remains. This rest layer is subsequently removed by means of physical etching, in which at least substantially charged particles have a motion energy which is between the sputtering threshold of the magnetic material of the rest layer and the sputtering threshold of the non-magnetic material of the barrier layer. In the relevant method, it is prevented that the electrode layer which is not to be structured is detrimentally influenced during structuring of the other electrode layer.

Abstract: A system and method for delivering relevant information to recipients in a timely manner. Information from a plurality of sources is received through interface devices that permit a central processor to evaluate each information stream in light of the dynamic profiles that are stored in a subscriber database. A plurality of location sensors track and report the location of the various recipients. The processor determines the content that will be provided to the recipient and the delivery mode to be used for delivering the selected information to the subscriber.

Abstract: The invention relates to a control means for controlling burst accesses to a synchronous dynamic semiconductor memory device comprising at least two memory banks. In order to avoid relatively large time losses due to preparation cycles (precharge and activate), the invention provides an address converter unit (12) for converting a logical access address into physical access addresses by splitting the burst access into at least two partial burst accesses, wherein a first physical access address addresses a first memory area of a first memory bank for a first partial burst access and wherein a second physical access address addresses a second memory area of a second memory bank for a second partial burst access.

Abstract: The invention relates to a transmission system (10) comprising a transmitter (12) and a receiver (14). The transmitter (12) is arranged for transmitting a plurality of signals (13), e.g. radio and/or television signals. The plurality of signals (13) comprise mutual corresponding signals, e.g. analog and digital signals of the same channel or program. Alternatively, the mutually corresponding signals may comprise standard definition and high definition signals of the same channel or program. The receiver (14) is arranged for receiving at least part of said plurality of signals (13). The transmitter (12) is arranged for transmitting information (15) identifying said mutually corresponding signals and the receiver (14) is arranged for receiving said information (15). The receiver (14) comprises a selector (16) for selecting on basis of said information (15) at least one (17) of the mutually corresponding signals. In the way, the receiver (14) can automatically select the most appropriate signal (17), e.g.
