  • Patent number: 6904063
Abstract: A transmitter (10) for transmitting a multiplex signal (20) containing a number of tables with information about the signal (11) to a receiver (12), capable of selecting some or all of these tables (26) from the signal (20) and storing them on a table storage medium (22). The stored tables (27) are transmitted for example when the receiver (12) requests them, or when the information therein is updated. By storing these tables in the transmitter (10), the problem that the receiver has to wait for them to occur in the multiplex signal (10) is overcome.

  • Patent number: 6904092
Abstract: A method and apparatus for minimizing prediction drift at low bitrates in a fine granular scalable video coding scheme that utilizes motion compensation in an enhancement layer. The method and apparatus measures motion activity within at least a portion a video; determines whether the measured motion activity is below a predetermined threshold value; codes the portion of the video with the fine granular scalable video coding scheme that utilizes motion compensation in the enhancement layer if the measured motion activity is below the predetermined threshold value; and codes the portion of the video with a fine granular scalable video coding that does not utilize motion compensation in the enhancement layer if the measured motion activity is above the predetermined threshold value.

  • Patent number: 6904102
Abstract: A method of, and a receiver for, detecting the presence of digitally modulated data signals in which the receiver is periodically energised to detect the presence of the signals. The received signals/noise are converted using a quadrature frequency translation stage (16, 17, 18) into a complex signal which after differential decoding (28) contain n samples for each transmitted bit. A running sum of successive groups of m samples, where m<n, is obtained and an absolute value (Xi) of each group is derived. A weighting value (Wi) is selected by comparing each absolute value with predetermined statistics of expected values and the weighting value selected is multiplied by the associated absolute value to produce a product (S). The product is compared in a comparator (56) with a further threshold level (58) to derive an indication of the presence of data in the received signals. If the indication is negative the receiver is powered down to save power.

Abstract: The semiconductor device has a security coating with embedded magnetic particles and magnetoresistive sensors. This renders possible a measurement of the impedance of security elements defined by magnetoresistive sensors and security coating. If initial values of the impedance arc stored, actual values can be compared therewith to see if the device has not been electrically probed or modified. Such a comparison can be used to check the authenticity of the device.

  • Publication number: 20050117074
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of correcting perturbations in a picture signal of a color projection system which is provided with a light modulation panel comprising a large number of pixels arranged in a matrix of m×n rows. The light modulation panel is projected on a screen by a projection lens, and simultaneously illuminated by curved light spots of two or more colors. The light spots are moved across the light modulation panel and the pixels are driven row by row for projecting the picture signal. The invention also relates to a color projection system comprising a light source, an optical system comprising lenses and mirrors, means for splitting a light beam from the light source into several bars of different colors, a light modulation panel provided with a large number of pixels arranged in a matrix of m rows and n columns, a projection lens, and driving means for driving the pixels row by row for projecting information.

Abstract: A temporal recursive filter unit (100,200,300,400) for noise filtering of a series of input images resulting in a series of output images comprises: means (102) for determining a value of a weighing factor, on basis of a difference between a first value of a first pixel of an input image and a second value of a second pixel of a first output image; and an adding (104) unit for calculating a third value of a third pixel of a second output image by adding of a first product of the value of the weighing factor and the first value of the first pixel, to a second product of a complement of the value of the weighing factor and the second value of the second pixel. The value (508) of the weighing factor is higher below a predetermined threshold (506) than above the threshold (506).

The scheme has a mean effective audio frame length F that equals the video frame length 1/fV over an integral number M video frames, by provision of audio frames variable in length F in a defined sequence where length=F(j) at encoding. The length of the audio frames may be varied by altering the length of overlap between adjacent frames in accordance with an algorithm that repeats after a sequence of M frames. An encoder and a decoder for such a scheme are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050118961
Abstract: An electronic signal processing apparatus has a signal switch with a first and a second transistor of normally-on type, having main current channels coupled between an internal node and a switch input and output, respectively. A diode provides a switchable signal coupling between the internal node and ground. A switch control circuit has a control output that is DC coupled to the main current channel of the first and the second transistor via the internal node to control conduction of the main current channels. The diode is also DC-coupled to the internal node so that a DC potential of a terminal of the diode that controls whether the diode is on or off is determined by a potential of the internal node. The diode is preferably incorporated in the DC current path from the control output to the internal node, so that the diode is forward-biased when a control voltage that makes the main current channels non-conductive is applied.

Abstract: The navigation support through interaction fields in XML documents such as XHTML and SMIL is supported by the so-called tabindex attribute. In order to enable two dimensional navigation through the interaction fields, a method is proposed that divides the interaction fields into a plurality of sub-sets. Navigation according to one dimension navigates through the interaction fields across the plurality of sub-sets. • Publication number: 20050118607
Abstract: The present invention is in the field of nucleic acid-based genetic analysis. More particularly, it discloses novel insights into the overall structure of genetic variation in all living species. The structure can be revealed with the use of any data set of genetic variants from a particular locus. The invention is useful to define the subset of variations that are most suited as genetic markers to search for correlations with certain phenotypic traits. Additionally, the insights are useful for the development of algorithms and computer programs that convert genotype data into the constituent haplotypes that are laborious and costly to derive in an experimental way. The invention is useful in areas such as (i) genome-wide association studies, (ii) clinical in vitro diagnosis, (iii) plant and animal breeding, (iv) the identification of micro-organisms.
