Abstract: The present invention is a tape product suitable for use in the protection of semiconductor devices from alpha-particles. The product comprises a heat resistant support film, a pressure sensitive adhesive layer on one side of the support film, a least one alpha-particle protector member formed of a plastic material capable of protecting the semiconductor device releasably supported on the pressure sensitive adhesive, and a layer of heat resistant adhesive bonded to the plastic material on its side lying opposite to the side bonded to the pressure sensitive adhesive. Preferably, a primer layer lies between the heat resistant support film on the pressure sensitive adhesive to insure that clean removal of the support film and pressure sensitive adhesive from the surface of the alpha-particle protector member. In order to aid in this removal the surface of the alpha-particle protector member facing the pressure sensitive layer is also coated with a release coating.

Abstract: A wide range of materials may be encapsulated in a starch matrix by combining the material with a high temperature-stabilized pressurized dispersion of starch in the presence of salt. The temperature-stabilized starch dispersion acts as a protective colloid; upon subsequent rapid reduction of the pressure, the mixture cools and the starch polymer chains collapse upon themselves, encapsulating the core material in particulate form.

Abstract: Polysaccharide esters containing aldehyde and acetal groups having the structural formulas ##STR1## are prepared by reacting a polysaccharide, such as a starch, gum, or cellulose, with an acetal-containing reagent which contains a functional group reactive with the hydroxyl groups of the polysaccharide; Z is a multivalent organic group: A and A' are independently a lower alkyl or together form at least a 5-membered cyclic acetal; x is at least 1; and y is at least 1. When x is >1 the esters are crosslinked. Typical reagents for introducing the acetal group include 3,3-diethoxypropionyl guanidine (itself a novel compound) and 4-(methylaminoacetaldehyde dimethyl acetal)-4-oxo-butanoic acid). The derivatives are useful in conventional applications such as coatings, adhesives, paper additives and foodstuffs.

Abstract: A method of finishing a concrete structure which comprises coating an aqueous acrylic acid esters resin emulsion including a special acrylic acid esters copolymer on the bare surface of a concrete structure and after dried, forming a cement-based finishing layer. The action of the film formed by said emulsion provides an improved adhesive bond strength between said concrete structure and the finishing layer, prevents breakage of the finishing layer almost permanently, and is, furthermore, effective in bonding the coated layers strongly, even when they are coated repeatedly.
