  • Publication number: 20190201730
Abstract: A power measurement apparatus for an exercise machine may include an optical sensing component and a pair of code wheels supported by the frame of the exercise machine. The pair of code wheels may include a first code wheel having a plurality of first windows and a second code wheel having a plurality of second windows that individually at least partially overlap respective ones of the first windows to define respective effective window, the width of which may vary responsive to the application of power via at least one moment-producing assembly. The optical sensing component is operatively associated with the pair of code wheels to detect variations in the width of the effective window and thus measure the power applied via the moment-producing assembly.

  • Patent number: 10328301
Abstract: A stationary exercise machine according to the present disclosure may include a frame, a crankshaft rotatable supported by the frame, first and second lower linkages, and first and second crank arms connected to opposite sides of the crankshaft such that rotation of either of the first or second crank arm causes rotation of the crankshaft. Each of the first and second lower linkages may be operatively connected to the crankshaft and to a respective one of first and second pedals. Each of the first and second lower linkages may include a reciprocating member operatively connecting the respective one of the pedals with respective one of the crank arms. In some examples, each of the first and second lower linkages may include an adjustable linkage connected between the reciprocating member and the respective crank arm, the adjustable linkage operable to vary a distance between an output end of the reciprocating member and an input end of the crank arm.

  • Patent number: 10252101
Abstract: Described herein are embodiments of stationary exercise machines having reciprocating foot and/or hand members, such as foot pedals that move in a closed loop path. Some embodiments can include reciprocating foot pedals that cause a user's feet to move along a closed loop path that is substantially inclined, such that the foot motion simulates a climbing motion more than a flat walking or running motion. Some embodiments can further include reciprocating handles that are configured to move in coordination with the foot via a linkage to a crank wheel also coupled to the foot pedals. Variable resistance can be provided via a rotating air-resistance based mechanism, via a magnetism based mechanism, and/or via other mechanisms, one or more of which can be rapidly adjustable while the user is using the machine.

  • Patent number: 10201727
Abstract: An exercise device providing a fore and aft horizontal component of striding motion that is dynamically user-defined, while providing a vertical component of the motion that is maintained on a predetermined vertically reciprocating path in some embodiments. The exercise device guides the user's foot in a pseudo-elliptical stride path, while providing a dynamically variable stride length that allows the user to move with a natural stride length. The exercise device allows tall and short users to extend or curtail the stride length to match their natural stride lengths. The length of the reciprocating path is dynamically adjusted during the exercise operation without equipment adjustments by changes in the length of the stride input by the user at a pair of foot engagement pads disposed on laterally spaced apart foot support members.

  • Publication number: 20170361150
Abstract: A rigging system is configured for selective attachment to a fixed-point mount (e.g., a beam, a bar, or a door jamb), typically located at a position above the user's head. A handle on the opposite end of the rigging system hangs from this fixed point and is grasped by the user to support a portion of the user's weight while the user performs resistance exercises against a reduced portion of the user's body weight. In some configurations, the fixed point may be a doorjamb above the top of a door. A height adjustment buckle of the rigging system is designed to be positioned generally distal from a structure forming the handle during use of the rigging system.
