Abstract: A method and system for web mining and clustering is described. The method includes receiving and dividing input data into a plurality of primitive datasets. Additionally, one or more combinations of the plurality of primitive datasets may be created. Further, a model for each primitive dataset in the plurality of primitive datasets and each of the one or more combinations of the plurality of primitive datasets may be generated. Subsequently, a cost associated with a model corresponding to each primitive dataset in the plurality of primitive datasets, and each of the one or more combinations of the plurality of primitive datasets may be computed. Further, a sum of the costs associated with the models corresponding to each primitive dataset in the plurality of primitive datasets may be compared with the cost associated with each model corresponding to each of the one or more combinations of the plurality of primitive datasets.

Abstract: Video content, such as broadcast television, may be divided into segments, and each segment may be assigned a distinguishing Uniform Resource Locator (URL). The URL assigned to a segment allows a user to access the segment via the Internet. For example, a television news program may be broken into segments (e.g., each interview on the program might constitute a segment). For each segment, a code may be assigned, and may be appended to the broadcaster's domain name to create a distinct URL for the segment. While the segment is being broadcast, the URL may be displayed with the segment, thereby allowing a viewer to identify the segment and to locate an Internet version of the segment. Entering the URL into a browser may access an Internet version of the broadcast segment to which the URL pertains.

Abstract: A system for generating web analytic reports is provided. The system includes a processor configured to receive an input web page link, execute a unified tag for the input web page link, and generate unified tagged data based on the executed unified tag. The system also includes a server side translation unit configured to translate the unified tagged data to corresponding client tagged data for each of a plurality of clients. The system further includes a plurality of client side analytical units associated with a corresponding client among the plurality of clients and communicatively coupled to the server side translation unit, wherein at least a portion of the client side analytical units are configured to analyze the corresponding client tagged data for each of the plurality of clients and generate a corresponding client side web analytics report for each of the plurality of clients.

Abstract: A method for recommending videos is presented. The method includes generating a cross-usage matrix based upon a data of video sessions for a plurality of videos, generating a temporal matrix based upon release dates of the plurality of videos, generating a cross-temporal matrix based upon the cross-usage matrix and the temporal matrix, computing a global video rank corresponding to each of the plurality of videos based upon the cross-temporal matrix, generating a similarity score corresponding to each pair of videos in the plurality of videos based upon meta-data of the plurality of videos, and generating a local video rank corresponding to each of the plurality of videos relative to another video in the plurality of videos based upon the generated cross-usage matrix, the computed global video rank and the generated similarity score.

Abstract: A system and method for estimating a set of landmarks for a large image ensemble employs only a small number of manually labeled images from the ensemble and avoids labor-intensive and error-prone object detection, tracking and alignment learning task limitations associated with manual image labeling techniques. A semi-supervised least squares congealing approach is employed to minimize an objective function defined on both labeled and unlabeled images. A shape model is learned on-line to constrain the landmark configuration. A partitioning strategy allows coarse-to-fine landmark estimation.

Abstract: Supplementary digital content is provided to be played with primary digital content on a media device, such as a television, handheld device, smart phone, computer, and so forth. The primary digital content is sampled, and the time of the sample is noted. The primary digital content is identified, and the supplementary digital content is selected and transmitted, with an indication of timing for play of the supplementary digital content based upon the sample time. Synchronization of the primary and supplementary digital content playback is based upon reference to the sample time.

Abstract: Primary digital content played on a media device, such as a television, handheld device, smart phone, computer, or other device, is sampled and data is derived from the sample for identification of the primary digital content. Automatic content recognition is performed to determine the primary digital content. The time of the sample may also be determined. Supplementary digital content is then selected and transmitted to the media device, or to another device, based upon the identified primary digital content. The supplementary digital content may be adapted in layout, type, length, or other manners, based upon the platform and/or configuration of the media device or any other device to which the supplementary digital content is transmitted.

Abstract: An optical article comprising a primary mark disposed on the optical article and a secondary mark disposed on the optical article in close proximity to the primary mark. The primary mark comprises a first optical-state change material and the secondary mark comprises a second optical-state change material. The optical article is transformed from a pre-activated state to an activated state when a localized authorized activation method is used that selectively activates the primary mark. The optical article is transformed from a pre-activated state to an deactivated state when a non-localized unauthorized activation method is used that activates the secondary mark along with the primary mark resulting in the second optical-state change material undergoing a reverse color change when compared to the first optical-state change material. An optical article with a single mark including multiple color change optical-state change material is also disclosed.

Abstract: An electronic device, such as a web-enabled television has a device layer that defines certain hardware, firmware, and software constraints of the device, and a superapplication that interfaces with the device layer. The superapplication defines certain functionality that may be utilized by one or more applications that provide specifics of the user experience, such as colors and placement of text and graphics, functions that may be called by reference to the superapplication, and so forth. The structure may facilitate or eliminate the need for approval of applications once a superapplication is approved for use on the device. Multiple applications may be designed to function with the superapplication, such as to facilitate development and offering of applications, such as for different stations of television offerings.

Abstract: An event trigger data string is formulated and added to digital content for distribution to an audience via broadcast, satellite, cable or any other technology. The event trigger data string includes identification of an event source, identification of an operation to be performed, and a payload. A controller reads the data string and outputs a command to an appropriate event source for alteration of a digital content stream based upon the identified operation. The payload may, for example, identify an advertisement or notice to be spliced into or out of the digital content stream. Such event trigger data strings may be added to many different digital content streams, and a router or switching component may distribute the streams to systems that disseminate them to the audience. The technique enables interaction with different event sources, and allows command of multiple different operations by these event sources.

Abstract: A multi-channel embedded data technique allows for embedding data, such as watermarks into multiple channels of audio, video, multi-media, and other digitized content streams. Two or more of the channels may be utilized. The embedded data may be segmented within each channel, and these segments may start and stop at identical times, or may be staggered or offset from one another. The available payload may be used for different data, or redundant data, providing enhanced reliability. Staggering allows for more rapid availability of at least some of the embedded data segments. References may be used between channels and between data streams to provide for highly complex configurations of encoding and decoding of the embedded data.

Abstract: An activation system for optical media in one embodiment includes a tag having at least one pair of conductors with at least one heating element coupled to the conductors. The heating element is oriented proximate one or more activation regions on the optical media, and wherein the heating element activates the optical media. The tag in one embodiment is an elongate flexible tag material with a number of conductors that couple on one end to heating elements wherein the heating elements are disposed within a media case such that they are proximate activation regions on a media article.

Abstract: A multi-tiered approach to identifying digital content and acting upon the identification includes transmitting data from a device on which the content is stored or played to a first tier entity where the content and the device are identified. The first tier entity may use any one of many techniques for identifying the data and device. Once the identification data is determined, the information is transmitted to any one of multiple second tier entities that work in cooperation with the first tier entity. The second tier entities may then perform any desired functions based on the identification, such as providing offers, content, products and/or services to the device, or to other devices associated with the device or the device user. Other tiers may be employed for carrying out particular functions or activities, such as under the direction of the second tier entities.

Abstract: An optical article for playback in a player, the optical article including at least one sector having data, and a mark disposed in a predetermined relationship with the at least one sector, wherein the mark renders a portion of the data generally unreadable. The optical article further includes error correction code associated with the at least one sector, wherein data within the error correction code is configured as partially corrupted. The inclusion of partially corrupted error correction code reduces the size of the mark or spot required to render the data sector uncorrectable.

Abstract: An optical article for playback in a player includes at least one sector comprising a first control logic configured to set the value of a first register, the first register having a default value before it is set, and a non-default value after it is set, and a first command to be read sequentially after the sector. The first command is configured to direct the player to play a first content on the article if the first register is set to the default value and to direct the player to play a second content on the article if the first register is set to the non-default value. The optical article includes a mark containing an optical state change material disposed on the sector, wherein the mark is in one of a first optical state or a second optical state, and wherein the first control logic can be read only when the mark is in the second optical state.

Abstract: Mining of websites that in one embodiment includes obtaining web usage data of user sessions of a website, wherein the website has a hierarchical structure with granular levels and has mapping from each webpage of the website into the hierarchical structure, mapping the user sessions to the hierarchical structure of the website resulting in hierarchical user sessions, initiating an edit distance metrics to determine similarity in the hierarchical user sessions, and clustering similar hierarchical user sessions into groups.
