    Abstract: A power of a square matrix is determined in a time approximately proportional to the upper integer of the base-2 logarithm of the order of the matrix. A preferred embodiment uses two types of look-up tables and two multipliers for a matrix of 15Ă—15, and is applied to a pseudorandom noise (PN) sequence phase correlation or state jumping circuit. An exact state of a PN code can be determined or calculated from applying an appropriate offset value into a control circuit. The control circuit can produce a PN sequence state from the offset value and typically does so within one system clock period regardless of the amount of the offset. Once the exact state is determined, it is loaded into a state generator or linear sequence shift register (LSSR) for generating a subsequent stream of bits or symbols of the PN code. The PN generator system may include state computing logic, a maximum length PN generator, a zero insertion circuit and a zero insertion skipping circuit.

    Abstract: A multi-logical access for a serial data link designed with a multi-logical serial interface protocol which permits multi-drop applications to communicate in a time division multiplex mode over a singular drop or physical serial link such as an RS-232 link. Data is exchanged over the serial data link between multiple applications on a transmitter side of the serial data link and multiple applications on a receiver side of the serial data link. Both the transmitter and the receiver have a link layer connected to the serial data link for handling the transmission/receiving of packets through the serial data link, for detecting the start/end of each packet, and to ensure the sequence of the packets. Both the transmitter and the receiver also have a relay layer connected between the multiple applications and the link layer, which operates to allow the different access functions to share the serial data link.

The band to band operating method utilizes a frequency command data signal where data derived from the signal is used in a determinable bit stream of data including a frequency data word. The frequency data word is used for defining an operational state of the synthesizer frequency thereby implementing the transceiver's operating channel. At least one bit (or functional bits) from within the bit stream or received signal is used for defining, at least momentarily, the transceiver's “new” operating band (or state).

    Abstract: In a telephone system having multiple working metallic interface units, a method and a structure provide protection by assigning to each metallic interface unit a partner unit, which is another metallic interface unit. Under this arrangement, when a failure occurs in a working metallic interface unit, its partner unit switches the ring/tip input signals of the failed metallic interface unit to a protection bus. A standby or protective unit then takes over by receiving the rerouted tip/ring signals from the protection bus. The failed working unit can then be removed from the shelf without disrupting service.

The phone is programmed and shipped by the manufacturer in a locked condition, which prevents programming of the NAM (Number Assignment Module) of the cellular phone without first entering either a valid unlock code or a valid remove lock code. At the time of phone activation and programming of the NAM, the phone's ESN (Electronic Serial Number) is entered into the carrier computer system, which utilizes the ESN and carrier code to execute a subsidy lock algorithm which outputs an unlock code and a remove lock code. At the carrier's choice, either code is given to the end user to be entered into the phone.
