Abstract: A method and system for providing an originating dispatch user with delivery options when a destination dispatch user is not available are provided. These options can include delivering buffered voice to a voice mail system, and converting the buffered voice to text and sending the text as an electronic mail, a short message service (SMS) message, or an instant message. The speech can be buffered in either the network or in the originating communication device. The speech can be buffered either before or after receiving a call setup acknowledgment from the dispatch network.

Abstract: A system and method for operating a dual-mode mobile communications unit in a home network of the communications unit is disclosed. In an embodiment of the method, the dual-mode mobile communications unit is provisioned as a visitor in the home network of the communications unit. The home network utilizes a proprietary technology but the communications unit communicates with the home network in the same standards-based technology that a roamer in the home network uses to communicate with the home network. In an embodiment of the system, the system includes the home network of the communications unit, where the home network utilizes a proprietary technology but where the communications unit communicates in the home network in the standards-based technology. The system also includes a visitor location register coupled to the home network. The dual-mode mobile communications unit is provisioned as a visitor in the visitor location register of the home network.

Abstract: A system and method for allocating service provider network resources for supporting dispatch multi-party calls is disclosed. In an embodiment of a method of the present invention, the method includes receiving a requirement at the service provider network for supporting a dispatch multi-party call having a projected number of participants. An amount of network resources required to support the projected number of participants is determined. A portion of the amount of network resources required to support the projected number of participants in the dispatch multi-party call is dedicated to the dispatch multi-party call in the service provider network. In an embodiment of a system of the present invention, the system includes a media server having resources for supporting a dispatch multi-party call having a projected number of participants in a service provider network.

Abstract: In an embodiment of a method of the present invention, the method includes the acts of establishing a dispatch multi-party call between a set of communication devices and establishing a sidebar communication between a subset of the set of communication devices. The set of communication devices participate in the dispatch multi-party call and only the subset of communication devices participate in the sidebar communication. In an embodiment of a system of the present invention, the system includes a dispatch network and a set of communication devices in communication with the dispatch network. The dispatch network establishes a dispatch multi-party call between the set of communication devices and a sidebar communication between a subset of the set of communication devices, wherein the set of communication devices participate in the dispatch multi-party call and only the subset of communication devices participate in the sidebar communication.

Abstract: A system and method for providing subscriber presence information in a dispatch network is disclosed. In an embodiment of the method, presence subscription information related to a dispatch network subscriber is provided to a home location register. A presence message is provided to a presence server related to the subscription information. A presence status is provided to a party by the presence server. In an embodiment of the system, a home location register stores a subscriber presence table. The presence table includes presence subscription information related to a dispatch network subscriber. A dispatch application processor (DAP) is coupled to the home location register and the DAP retrieves the presence subscription information for a subscriber registered in the DAP. The DAP provides a presence message to the presence server and the presence server provides a presence status to a communications medium.

Abstract: A system and method of analyzing communications between a calling party and a called party is disclosed. In an embodiment of a method of the present invention, the method includes receiving a communication at a service provider network, recording the communication, analyzing a voice content portion of the recorded communication to determine if the voice content portion contains a keyword stored in a database, and forwarding the recorded communication to a law enforcement agency if the keyword is detected in the voice content portion. In an embodiment of a system of the present invention, the system includes a buffer memory for receiving a recorded communication from a service provider network and a content analysis system coupled to the buffer memory.

Abstract: A system and method for prioritizing service requests to a SIP server is disclosed. In accordance with a system of the present invention, a SIP server is provided. The SIP server includes a processor for processing service requests to the SIP server and a database. The database includes data related to a first source IP address for a first service request to the processor and a second source IP address for a second service request to the processor. The processor determines a priority order for processing of the first service request and the second service request by comparing the first source IP address and the second source IP address to the data in the database. In accordance with a method of the present invention, a method for processing requests for services at a SIP server is provided.

Abstract: A system and method for assigning a vocoder mode to a voice communication of a telephone call is disclosed. In an embodiment of a method, the method includes determining a utilization factor for a telecommunications network and assigning a vocoder mode to the voice communication dependent upon the utilization factor. In an embodiment of a system, the system includes a variable vocoder with a first mode and a second mode. The first mode provides a voice quality for a voice communication which is better than a voice quality provided by the second mode. If a utilization factor of the network is not indicative of a peak utilization, the first mode is assigned to the voice communication and if the utilization factor is indicative of the peak utilization, the second mode is assigned to the voice communication.

Abstract: A system and method for frequency planning is provided. In systems with consecutive frequency channels, half-channel frequency reuse can be provided between channels employed by different cells. Specifically, two channels in two proximately located cells can overlap within the frequency spectrum by one-half of the frequency of a channel. Half-channel overlap can increase frequency reuse, and in turn, system capacity.

Abstract: Systems and methods for an automatically adjustable directional antenna are provided. A broadband wireless device includes an RF transparent housing. The housing includes a directional antenna and a wireless modem coupled to the directional antenna. The wireless modem incorporates a mechanical antenna adjuster which automatically adjusts the direction of the directional antenna based on signal strength and quality. Alternatively, the modem is external to the broadband wireless device and provides feedback to the mechanical antenna adjustor for automatically adjusting the directional antenna based on signal strength and quality.

Abstract: An architecture and method for intercepting communications in a communications network is disclosed. The architecture includes a first access device that captures call identifying information of a call to the communications network and transmits the captured call identifying information to a network infrastructure of the communications network over a communications channel that interconnects the first access device to the network infrastructure. The architecture also includes a second access device that resides within the network infrastructure and captures call content information of the call. The method includes the steps of capturing call identifying information of the call to the communications network by the first access device, transmitting the captured call identifying information to the network infrastructure over the communications channel, and capturing call content information of the call by the second access device.

Abstract: A system and method for a hybrid 1× evolution data only (1×EV-DO) forward link are provided. The data channels of a 1×EV-DO forward link are transmitted using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), while pilot and Medium Access Control (MAC) channels are transmitted using Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). The pilot and MAC channels can use CDMA in one time slot and OFDM in another time slot.

Abstract: A system and method for multiplexing subchannels in an OFDMA network is provided. The subchannels can be multiplexed by splitting the subchannels in the frequency domain. Alternatively, the subchannels can be code division multiplexed using N orthogonal spreading codes. The subchannel multiplexing increases system capacity for low-rate services, such as voice-based services.

Abstract: A system and method for handoff are provided. A mobile station performs a make-before-break handoff of a control channel between a serving and target base station and a break-before-make handoff of a traffic channel between the serving and target base stations. The traffic channel handoff is performed after the control channel handoff has completed.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for notifying mobile stations in an inactive state of the presence of uplink or downlink channel configuration, broadcast system updates, traffic channel allocations and paging messages are provided. The notification can be provided in an information element in the same channel as the frame, or in a different channel. The information element identifies a subsequent frame which includes broadcast or configuration changes. The notifications for traffic channel allocations can include a first field, which identifies whether there are any traffic channel allocations for any sleep mode mobile station, and a second field for identifying the particular sleep mode mobile stations which are to receive traffic channel allocations. Notifications for paging messages can include a field, which identifies whether there are any paging messages for any idle mode mobile stations, and use second field to identify the particular idle mode mobile stations, which are to receive the paging messages.

Abstract: Cellular telephone mounting unit for a vehicular battery charger that supports and retains a cellular telephone onto a vehicle battery charger while the cellular telephone battery is charging. One variation of the mounting unit includes a semi-circular member having an arcuate surface, and a curved perimeter. The member including a notched portion formed in the arcuate surface so that a detachable attachment on the cellular telephone can be docked therein. The detachable attachment piece includes a supporting member and a fastening member. The fastening member including a head and a body rotatably connected thereto to allow the cellular telephone to pivot in the mounting unit.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for reducing set-up time for walkie-talkie calls. One or more mobile units are assigned to a first paging channel. The one or more mobile units are also assigned to a second paging channel. A first slot cycle may be determined using a first slot cycle index and a second slot cycle may be determined using a second slot cycle index. The second paging channel slot cycle is determined using a negative slot cycle index. A mobile unit can then be configured to monitor the first paging channel during the first slot cycle. Similarly, the mobile unit may also be configured to monitor the second paging channel during the second slot cycle. The first paging channel may be used to provide the mobile unit with notification of a cellular call and the second paging channel may be used to provide notification of a walkie-talkie call.

Abstract: Systems and methods for managing communication groups are provided. In some embodiments, the invention includes systems and methods for managing a mobile communication device group. The system can include a communication device for sending a message from a member of a sender group and network to transmit the message to the recipient group if the identity of the sender group exists in a communication permission parameter associated with the recipient group. In other embodiments, the invention includes systems and methods for transmitting a message to a group of communication device users in an identified geographical area and including a graphical display for presenting a geographical representation of an area. The invention can also include a selection tool for identifying one or more communication device users located within a defined area. In such embodiments, a network can be used to transmit a message from a sender to the users located within the defined area.

Based on the measured distance between the scanning probe datum point and each of a plurality of measuring points on the surface of a calibration object, and on the position of a reference point on a motion system platform on which the scanning probe assembly is mounted, corresponding to the scanning probe being in a sensing position of each of the plurality of measuring points, the method provides the necessary data for calculating the coordinate of a measuring point of the workpiece from the measured distance between the scanning probe datum point and the measuring point, and from the position of the reference point corresponding to the to the scanning probe being in a sensing position of the measuring point.
