Abstract: Disclosed is a positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having at least a lithium-transition metal composite oxide of a layer structure, in which an existence ratio of at least one selected from the group consisting of elements which may become tetravalent and magnesium is 20% or more on a surface of the lithium-transition metal composite oxide. By use of this positive electrode active material, a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having excellent battery characteristics, specifically, having excellent high rate characteristics, cycle characteristics, low-temperature characteristics, thermal stability, and the like, under the even more harsh environment for use can be realized.
Abstract: Disclosed is a positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery containing at least a lithium-transition metal composite oxide of a spinel structure, in which at least one kind of element which may become tetravalent exists on at least a surface of the lithium-transition metal composite oxide, and concentration of the element which may become tetravalent on the surface of the lithium-transition metal composite oxide is higher than concentration of the element which may become tetravalent inside the lithium-transition metal composite oxide. A use of this positive electrode active material can improve cycle characteristics and high rate characteristics without reducing the charge-discharge capacity of the lithium-transition metal composite oxide.
Abstract: A shape memory foam member is disclosed. A coefficient of water absorption of the shape memory foam member is in the range between 0.01 g/cm3 and 0.2 g/cm3 in a non-compressed state. The shape memory foam member is compressed with heating; cooled with keeping the shape memory foam member in the compressed state; and released from the compressive pressure on the shape memory foam member after cooling. The original shape of the shape memory foam member is substantially recovered by heating.
Abstract: The present invention provides an anti-squeal shim for use in a disc brake comprising a pressing member for pressing a brake pad toward a disc rotor and a back plate of the brake pad in a disc brake, wherein the anti-squeal shim comprises a plated steel plate and a rubber layer, wherein the rubber layer is fixed on at least one side thereof.
Abstract: The present invention provides a fluororubber molded article obtained by a process comprising subjecting a fluororubber composition to crosslinking by irradiation of ionizing radiation, wherein the fluororubber composition comprises: (i) a raw rubber which comprises a tetrafluoroethylene-propylene copolymer and which has a metal element content of 1.5% by weight or less; and (ii) silica which has a primary particle size of 0.5 &mgr;m or less and which has been treated to have a hydrophobic surface. Also disclosed is a method for producing the fluororubber molded article.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a disc roll comprising: a plurality of annular disc members each defining a hole and having a peripheral surface; and a rotary shaft fitted into the holes of the annular disc members by insertion, thereby the peripheral surfaces of the disc members serve as a conveying surface of the disc roll, wherein said disc members have a compression deformation rate of 0.05 to 0.3 mm under a load of 10 kgf/cm, or wherein the disc members comprise an inorganic fiber, mica and a clay having a content of particle components that have a particle size of 5 &mgr;m or larger of not higher than 30% by weight based on the weight of the clay. Also disclosed are methods for producing the disc roll and disc member base materials for obtaining the disc members.

Abstract: The present invention provides a combination metal gasket that is formed by fitting a ring-shaped metal base elastic structure in at least one trough portion of two trough portions of a ring-shaped metal gasket that has an S-shaped longitudinal cross section. The combination metal gasket does not demonstrate the plastic deformation even when a large compressive load is applied and is not likely to be destroyed even when a pressure of a fluid being sealed is high; that is, stable sealing properties are exhibited.

The double-heterostructure includes a light-emitting layer formed of a low-resistivity InxGa1−xN (0<x<1) compound semiconductor doped with p-type and/or n-type impurity. A first clad layer is joined to one surface of the light-emitting layer and formed of an n-type gallium nitride-based compound semiconductor having a composition different from the light-emitting layer. Abstract: A metal gasket for a high performance of an engine includes two sheets of elastic metal substrates providing a bead on peripheral portion of a cylinder opening and an annular thin metal plate that is thinner than the elastic metal substrates and surrounds the cylinder opening and is arranged between the substrates. The annular thin metal plate is fixed on the substrate by inserting an engaging portion solidly projected from the outside periphery into a slit formed on the substrate and folding the plate. Due to the thin metal plate, the cylinder opening peripheral portion has a high seal contact pressure in contrast to other locations. Moreover, the contact pressure of the cylinder opening peripheral portion becomes uniform.
Abstract: An elastomer sealing material having low dielectric constant and low dielectric dissipation, which is satisfactory with both of resistance to oxygen plasma and non-adhesion to quartz and can be applied to apparatus utilizing microwaves, is disclosed. The plasma-resistant fluorine-based elastomer sealing material comprises a fluorine-based elastomer having a divalent perfluoropolyether or divalent perfluoroalkylene structure in the main chain thereof and having two or more hydrosilyl groups and addition-reactive alkenyl groups in the terminals or side chains thereof, and a polymer having two or more hydrosilyl groups in the molecule and being capable of addition reacting with the alkenyl groups, the fluorine-based elastomer being crosslinked with the polymer.
