    Abstract: A method for producing a thermoplastic resin sheet or a filler-containing thermoplastic resin sheet by which method a difficultly-workable thermoplastic resin as well as an ordinary thermoplastic resin can be formed into a sheet and various kinds of fillers can be compounded into the sheet. The method is characterized in that a thermoplastic resin or a composition of a thermoplastic resin and a filler is fed in powder or preformed sheet form between a pair of tensioned endless belts disposed parallel and travelling together around a set of rolls, the endless belts being heated by being brought into surface-to-surface contact with heating rolls while travelling along a path having at least one bend formed by the heating rolls, and the material is heated and compressed between the endless belts and melted into an integral body at or above the melting point or softening point of the thermoplastic resin.

    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for continuously forming embossed sheets having good mechanical properties but no directional property. The apparatus has a pair of temperature-adjustable forming rolls, axial distance regulating devices to control the distance between the axes of the pair of forming rolls and a driving means for rotating the pair of forming rolls, each of the pair of forming rolls being provided with a plurality of ring-shaped blocks having a large number of projections on their circumferential surfaces; and the method comprises the steps of: introducing a sheet into a space between the pair of forming rolls, bringing the sheet into contact with the projections of the forming rolls, where the projections of the pair of forming rolls engage with one another without pressed contact, thereby making the sheet undergo plastic deformation and forming a large number of projections on both sides of the sheet.

    Abstract: A novel method for producing laminated sheets or films consisting of a substrate layer or layers and a layer or layers of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. The method is characterized by the steps of: superposing at least one layer of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene in powder or preformed sheet form and at least one layer of a substrate of another material upon one face of a tensioned endless belt travelling around a set of rolls, with an adhesive interposed between said layers if necessary; pressing or squeezing said ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene layer between said substrate layer and said endless belt, or between said substrate layers, against one or more heating rolls under the tension of said endless belt; heating at least said ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene layer to a temperature above its melting point; and thereby uniting said superposed ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and substrate layers into a laminated sheet or film.

    Abstract: An electrical insulating oil which can be produced easily at low cost, scarcely contains undesirable components of tarry substance, unsaturated compounds and carbonyl compounds, does neither swell nor dissolve plastic materials, and has excellent electrical properties. The electrical insulating oil is characterized in that it comprises a fraction having boiling points in the range of 270.degree. to 350.degree. C. which is prepared by distilling the heavier products obtained from the process for producing ethyltoluene by alkylating toluene with ethylene in the presence of synthetic zeolite catalyst. Included also in the present invention are oil-filled electrical appliances that are produced by impregnating them with the above insulating oil.

    Abstract: This invention provides a method of processing thermal cracked by-product oil which comprises reacting a distillate from a thermal cracked by-product oil principally containing components of a boiling range between 75.degree. C. and 198.degree. C. said distillate being one of the distillates from the cracking of petroleum hydrocarbons at a cracking temperature of 700.degree. C. or higher, and containing a ratio of 5-100 molar percent aromatic olefins to non-olefinic aromatic hydrocarbons, in liquid phase in the presence of an acid catalyst under such conditions that the reaction temperature is 0.degree. C.-200.degree. C., the liquid residence time is 0.1 hour-5 hours and wherein the content of aromatic olefins in the reaction system are 5% by weight or less at the end of the reaction, to yield a processed distillate containing non-condensed di- and tricyclic aromatic compounds which are reaction products of aromatic olefins with other aromatic hydrocarbons but no substantial amount of unsaturated components.
