    Abstract: A method for the continuous preparation of a polyethylene having high strength and high modulus of elasticity is here disclosed which comprises the steps of mixing 100 parts by weight of an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene powder having an intrinsic viscosity of 5 to 50 dl/g in decalin at 135.degree. C. with 2 to 50 parts by weight of a liquid organic compound having a boiling point higher than the melting point of the polyethylene, feeding the resulting mixture to between a pair of upper and lower endless belts facing each other, continuously compression-molding the mixture at a temperature less than the melting point of the mixture by pressing means disposed inside the endless belts, and rolling and then drawing the same.

    Abstract: A method for preparing cellobiose from sucrose in a high yield at low cost without difficulty by using three enzymes of sucrose phosphorylase, glucose isomerase and cellobiose phosphorylase in the presence of orthophosphate. The additional method of the invention comprises 4 steps: to treat sucrose with sucrose phosphorylase in the presence of orthophosphate to produce fructose and glucose-1-phosphate; to treat the fructose obtained in the preceding step with glucose isomerase to produce glucose; to treat the glucose obtained in the preceding step and the glucose-1-phosphate obtained in the first step with cellobiose phosphorylase to produce cellobiose and orthophosphate; and to recover at least a part of cellobiose from the reaction mixture in the preceding step and to recycle at least a part of the remaining reaction mixture containing orthophosphate to the first step.

    Abstract: A method for producing ethylene copolymer using ethylene and at least a comonomer of unsaturated glycidyl monomer in the presence of a polymerization initiator, wherein the undesirable thermal polymerization of the unsaturated glycidyl monomer in the preparation system can be avoided and the operation can be continued for a long period of time in a stable condition. The method is characterized in that at least two kinds of polymerization inhibitors are used and the inhibition factor of one polymerization inhibitor added to the unsaturated glycidyl monomer is smaller than that of another polymerization inhibitor added to the lubricating oil for compressors and the unsaturated glycidyl monomer containing 100 to 2000 ppm of a polymerization inhibitor is introduced from the inlet side of a high pressure compressor into the reaction system and the lubricating oil containing 0.1 to 10% by weight of a polymerization inhibitor is used for the high pressure compressor.

    Abstract: A non-woven fabric having a strength which is comparable to the strength of woven fabric and a method of making such non-woven fabric are disclosed. The non-woven fabric has a laminated structure composed of a warp web of random-laid non-woven fabric stretched lengthwise and hence having a greater strength in the lengthwise direction than in the transverse direction, and a weft web of random-laid non-woven fabric stretched transversely and hence having a greater strength in the transverse direction than in the lengthwise direction. Filaments constituting each of the warp and weft webs are substantially free from molecular orientation and extendible at least two times the original length before the web is stretched. Upon stretching of the web, the un-oriented filaments are substantially stretched to thereby cause molecular orientation therein.
