  • Patent number: 9032215
Abstract: Management of access control in wireless networks known as smart spaces includes a framework that presents non-expert users with a consistent and intuitive interaction mechanism to manage access to devices they own in the smart space without exposing to them the complexity of the underlying security infrastructure. Access control of devices in a network can include providing an interface between a user-level tool on a first device connected to a network and security components associated with the network, communicating a passlet between the user-level tool and the interface, verifying access permission at a second device on the network where access permissions are based on the passlet, and providing a response to the first device based on the verification of the access permission in the passlet. The passlet provides access permissions based on a particular user rather than a particular device.

  • Patent number: 9032201
Abstract: The present invention relates to hiding a device identifier (IMEI) in a communication system. Identifying a device is done by indicating an international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) as an instance identifier of the device of a user. Generating a globally routable user agent uniform resource identifier (GRUU) for the user is done by encrypting the instance identifier so that the GRUU comprises an identity of the user and the encrypted instance identifier.

  • Patent number: 9031054
Abstract: In one embodiment, in absence of transmitting from an apparatus a reservation request frame, the apparatus receives a reservation response frame on an assigned channel. The reservation response frame indicates a duration of a frame transmission. In response to receiving the reservation response frame, the apparatus transmits a frame on the assigned channel during the frame transmission. In another embodiment, in response to receiving a reservation request frame on a first channel at an apparatus, the apparatus transmits a reservation response frame on the first channel and on at least one second channel. The reservation request frame indicates a duration of a frame transmission. The reservation response frame indicates the duration of the frame transmission. After transmitting the reservation response frame, this apparatus receives during the frame transmission a first frame on the primary channel and a second frame on the at least one secondary channel.

  • Publication number: 20150124712
Abstract: Systems and techniques for management of wireless network transmission. A high efficiency wireless network that can operate using a contention free period defines an interframe space that is shorter than the interframe space used in legacy networks, so that a legacy network will be unable to contend for the medium if the high efficiency wireless network transmits during the contention free period. Before the contention free period begins, a high efficiency network element examines a transmission medium, and if an ongoing transmission extends into the contention free period, transmission by the high efficiency network is delayed until the end of the ongoing transmission. The high efficiency wireless network uses an interframe space sufficiently short that a legacy network cannot contend for the medium. After the contention free period, the high efficiency network uses an interframe space value on the order of that used by the legacy network.

Abstract: An approach is provided for validating redemption of a coupon. The coupon management module causes, at least in part, presentation of a coupon via a device. Next, the coupon management module receives a first code in response to the presentation. Next, the coupon management module causes, at least in part, validation of a redemption of the coupon based, at least in part, on the first code. The validation is performed at the device, at a server, or a combination thereof. Next, the coupon management module retrieves a second code based, at least in part, on the coupon, the first code, or a combination thereof. Next, the coupon management module causes, at least in part, presentation of the second code for verification. The validation of the redemption of the coupon is further based, at least in part, on the verification of the second code.

  • Publication number: 20150126207
Abstract: A cellular access node collects information about at least interference in a plurality of channels in unlicensed spectrum, and uses that collected information to update an allocation of the channels among at least two different access points APs. In one embodiment the information is collected from measurement reports received from each AP which indicates whether the various respective channels are available or reserved. Additional measurement reports may be collected from user equipments operating under the APs. In various embodiments the information can include channel recommendations, estimated capacity for the channels, and/or a traffic model for the channels. With this collected information the cellular access node can balance traffic among the APs by its channel allocation decisions.
