The push-to-talk session has at least one associated parameter, which the client can transfer one or more of the parameters to the network entity. Accordingly, the network entity is capable of advertising the parameters to at least one other client to thereby enable the other clients to join the push-to-talk session based upon the parameters.
Abstract: Methods, mobile terminal devices and computer program products are provided that are capable of reducing power consumption by detecting error events signifying unsuccessful short-range wireless communication activation operations and adjusting the frequency of the activation of the reader based on the detection of the error events. In this regard, the invention prevents the device from powering-up the processor for the read operation when the mobile terminal is in the vicinity of a wireless communication system whose signals are being received by the mobile terminal but are not intended for the use of the mobile terminal. By limiting the powering-up of the processor, power of the mobile terminal is preserved.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a receiver for obtaining a soft decision in detection of a TFM signal. In the method, the phase of a signal sample is reversed rotated twice in the way that the real part of the sample indicates the phase of the sample and that the rotation is opposite to the phase belonging to the old state of a trellis diagram. Transition metrics are completed with the aid of the real part of the signal sample. Then path metrics are computed, the path with larger metrics is selected as a survivor and the survivor with the largest metric is selected as the best survivor. The sign of the demodulated bit is determined and the weight of the demodulated bit is calculated.
Abstract: Apparatus, and associated method, converts real-time multimedia information generated pursuant to an RTP protocol into a form amenable for transmission upon a radio channel, such as a radio channel defined in a cellular communication system. When converted, the informational content of the multimedia information is transmitted in a manner that achieves spectral efficiency and low, constant delay. Once transmitted over the radio channel, the multimedia information is converted back into form corresponding to the RTP protocol before being sent to the receiving station.
Abstract: A method for indicating status on a programmed communication device wherein each of one or more backlights is associated with a respective key of a plurality of keys. Status information to be communicated to a user of the communication device is then generated, and one or more backlights are illuminated according to a pattern corresponding to the status information. Thus, a visual graphical display is not necessary, cost is reduced, volume is conserved, and reliability is increased.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and circuit arrangement for performing signal alignment, wherein signals to be aligned are controlled based on a frequency response of a phase error determined in the comparison. Thereby, the input and output signals can be aligned even in the presence of considerable distortion, as they are now compared using a quantity immune to the effects of both amplitude-based and phase-based distortions.
Abstract: A method of selecting the serving network element in a telecommunications network. Abstract: A method and corresponding apparatus for accurately determining the offset of the carrier frequency of a received signal from a nominal frequency (the offset due to for example Doppler shifting), such as is done in a ranging receiver when acquiring or tracking a signal transmitted by a beacon (such as a satellite) of a positioning system. The method amplifies a conventional correlation by performing a special noncoherent integration of the real and imaginary components of the output of a conventional (coherent) correlation calculation, resulting in a complex phasor having a phase that bears information about the offset of the carrier frequency from the nominal carrier frequency.
Abstract: A method of securing communication between a first party and a second party includes defining a criteria for selecting one of a plurality of different security methods. One of the plurality of different security methods is selected in accordance with the defined criteria.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for supporting location determination of a mobile station, in which method location data are stored in and deleted from a memory, each location data item describing the location of the mobile station measured at a given measuring moment. Furthermore, in the method, a distance parameter and/or a target level corresponding to the distance parameter is determined at least for some of the stored location data; and deletion of the location data is at least partly based on the distance parameter and target level.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for aggregating packets in a wireless communication system. The data to be transmitted is selected and packetized and formed into frames for transmission. Rather than send each frame individually, frames are grouped and transmitted with grouping indicia informing the recipients how to acknowledge successful receipt of the transmitted data. ACKs are sent at a predetermined time, or all together, divided by subcarrier in the case of an OFDMA network.
Abstract: A multimedia network (1) with connected customer stations (2), merchant servers (3), and a payment server (5). Secure electronic transactions are performed using a secure electronic transactions protocol (SET), including exchange of digital certificates, managed by a Trusted Third Party Server (9). The customer stations comprise transactions management means (10), fit for performing said SET protocol and for managing said certificates for the customer station. A remote customer agent (13) represents the customer station in the negotiation and payment process. The customer station (2) comprises an agent interface (12), fit for transmission of codes, parameters and certificates between the customer agent (13) and the transactions management means (10). A remote merchant agent (14) represents the merchant station (3) in the negotiation and payment process with the customer agent (13) or the customer station (3), to have paid for the selected products in a secure way, under control of SET protocol.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for re-routing a call which has been routed from a calling party (1) through a communication network to a destination (4). A need to relay the call to another destination (5) is identified and a subscriber identification of the calling party (1) is signaled from the other destination back to the communication network using a call drop-back function. Preferably, the subscriber information is then used to derive a routing information of the other destination (5) which may be a right destination in case the initial destination (4) was a wrong destination. Thus, a call drop-back feature is used to route calls even in cases where a subscriber is connected to a wrong destination. Thereby, an effective re-routing can be provided in cases where a subscriber identification is not provided in the call, such that a single service access short code can be used by all subscribers irrespective of their mobile terminal and their location.
Abstract: An antenna module for use in a small communications device. The antenna module comprises a dielectric block disposed on a circuit board having a ground plane, an elongated planar strip element folded to fit on different surfaces of the dielectric block, and one or more parasitic element disposed adjacent to the antenna element. In particular, the antenna element is designed to produce resonance frequencies at GSM850 and E-GSM900 bands (the lower bands) and one resonance for the GSM1800/GSM1900/WCDMA2100 bands (the upper bands). The dielectric block can be made of soft or hard plastic.
Abstract: A method and a device for estimating the DC offset portion of a signal, especially of a signal containing parts with sinusoidal shape, for example a signal which results from demodulation of a frequency modulated receive signal. A method is presented for correcting the direct current offset portion (DC offset) of a first signal which includes phase shifting the first signal for obtaining a second signal and comparing the first signal and the second signal with an estimated DC offset. The estimated DC offset is adjusted if the result of the comparison is that the first signal and the second signal are on different sides of the estimated DC offset and the estimated DC offset remains constant as long as the result of the comparison is that the first signal and the second signal are on the same side of the estimated DC offset.

Abstract: An aspect of the invention provides an efficient transportation of ESG fragments to a receiver through the formation of containers. A container comprises at least one ESG fragment, but may contain a plurality of fragments. A fragment may be also carried by more than one container. Aspects of the present invention utilize a simple and extensible header structure apart from the fragments and independent of the type and format of the individual fragments. In an aspect of the present invention, compression is applied over the entire container, including the fragments and any headers. In an aspect of the present invention, a 3GPP metadata envelope is carried within the container without the need for unnecessary repetition of parameters, such as for example, version, validity time, and identification. In an aspect of the present invention, a simplified container system allows for the updating of previously received fragments.
