  • Patent number: 8380249
Abstract: The present invention proposes a transmission method for transmitting data in a telecommunication network (NW), said telecommunication network comprising at least one access network (RAN) adapted to transmit data to/from at least one terminal device (MS) and a core network (CN, MSC, GW/TC), which are connected to each other via a first interface (Iu), wherein said data are exchanged via said first interface (Iu) using a real-time transfer protocol (RTP). Preferably, said real-time transfer protocol complies with ITU-T H.225 and ITU-T H.323 Recommendations. Consequently, transmission resources available on said first interface can be effectively and economically used, since the RTP protocol conforming to ITU-T H.323 Recommendation is adapted to handle discontinuous transmission.

  • Patent number: 7788211
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for communicating information. This may include comparing a current item list with a reference item list and determining a type of classification based on the comparison. • Patent number: 7751379
Abstract: An arrangement for providing IP mobility for a mobile station (MS) provides a care-of-address (COA) for routing data packets when the MS is away from home. In one embodiment, the arrangement includes support nodes, called gateway GPRS support nodes (GGSN) or serving GPRS gateway support nodes (SGSN), and a foreign agent (FA) having an IP address. In order to save IP addresses and radio resources, the FA is integrated into one of the support nodes (e.g., the SGSN), and the IP address of, or an IP address provided by the FA is also used as the MS COA.

  • Publication number: 20100067444
Abstract: An emergency telephone call is supported and routed to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in an IP based packet switched wireless communications network. An activate PDP context request is sent from a user equipment to the network. A parameter in said activate PDP context request indicates that the PDP context will be used to transfer an emergency call. An activate PDP context accept message is returned from said support node to said user equipment. Said activate PDP context accept message acknowledges said activate PDP context request message and provides the address of a call state control function. A call setup request transferred to the call state control function includes the Service Area Identity (SAI). The call state control function selects a PSAP based, at least in part, on the SAI included in the call setup request and forwards the emergency call to the selected PSAP.

  • Patent number: 7672288
Abstract: The invention relates to mobility management of an Internet-type protocol traffic in a mobile communications system. At least one mobile exchange (DXT1, DXT2) in the mobile communications system is arranged to operate as a gateway which interfaces (router 1) the mobile communications system with external data networks. All the mobile exchanges (DXT1, DXT2) are arranged to use a user identity and a data equipment identity for identifying each mobile host and to use an identity of the mobile exchange currently serving the mobile host for defining the location of the mobile host. Each mobile host is dynamically or permanently allocated an IP address which is bound to the user identity, the data equipment identity and the location information of the respective mobile host. The use of the user identity and the data terminal identity provide a unique identification for the mobile host without any relation to the IP network. Also the location information is independent of the IP network.

  • Patent number: 7649837
Abstract: The invention relates to controlling selection of a gateway support node of a packet-switched network. The invention includes defining at least one condition for the gateway support node. When the condition is fulfilled, another gateway support node is more suitable for transmitting packets. • Patent number: 7274869
Abstract: A system and method for establishing protection routes in optical mesh networks. A protection protocol is provided that utilizes a destination-to-source communication channel to establish a source-to-destination protection route. The communication channel is established from the node detecting the failed link back towards the transmitting node. As the destination-to-source communication channel is being established back towards the source node, it concurrently directs the nodes along this path to perform switching functions to subsequently allow the information originally intended for transmission via the failed link to be switched to the alternate protection path. Various manners of ascertaining the protection routes are also provided, including predetermined and/or dynamically-generated protection paths established via the destination-to-source communication channel.

  • Patent number: 7227849
Abstract: The invention relates to implementation of multiple simultaneous calls for a mobile station in a mobile communication system. A common traffic channel (TCH) is allocated to several simultaneous calls (applications 1–n) of the mobile station (MS), so that the calls share the capacity of the common channel. Logical links are established for each call inside a common radio link protocol or link access control protocol, which is established over the common traffic channel between the mobile station (MS) and an interworking function (IWF). The common traffic channel (TCH) is allocated when the first call or calls are set up, and the capacity of the traffic channel is adjusted dynamically during the calls. The capacity of the common traffic channel is increased or the allocated capacity is reallocated when a new call is added to the traffic channel. Correspondingly, the capacity is decreased or the allocated capacity is reallocated when a call is cleared from the common traffic channel.

  • Patent number: 7200385
Abstract: The invention relates to selection of the implementation of a service, and particularly to selection of the implementation of a supplementary service in a mobile communication system, in a situation where a user can use different terminals the properties of which vary. In the solution of the invention, at least two different implementations are defined for a service, the terminal requirements of which differ from each other. The implementation of the service is selected (307, 308, 309, 317, and 318) on the basis of the properties of the terminal used. Thus the implementation of the services is made as optimal and flexible as possible by implementing each service function at the most useful location considering the properties of the terminal and network.

  • Patent number: 7180868
Abstract: A method of setting a timer associated with a protocol supportinga data link in a digital mobile communication system in a connection section. At least one party (MSC/IWF, MS) to the connectionsection monitors if the need to change the timer value has arisen. Should such a need be detected, the timer value (S) is set to avalue deviating from the initial value. The need to change the timer value (S) is also determined during the connection, such asin handover, for example by measuring the propagation delay associated with the connection section. This may be implemented by either of the parties to the connection transmitting to the other party a frame (F) which is selected/formed such that the party receiving the frame sends an acknowledgement (Ack) to the transmitting party. The party which transmitted the frame measures the timefrom the moment of transmission of the frame (F) to the arrival of the acknowledgement (Ack) and deduces the propagation delay (D) therefrom.

  • Patent number: 7167447
Abstract: A method and a GGSN support node for sending data packets to a mobile station in a mobile communications system from an external communication system. The GGSN receives data packets from the external communication system in a first plurality of data flows which it maps to a second plurality of data flows in the mobile communications system. It establishes at least one filter for controlling the mapping and associates the filter with the mobile station. It also maps at least one of the data flows on the basis of the filter and configures the filter on the basis of information which preferably originates from the mobile station.

Abstract: The present invention relates to monitoring and maintaining a network in telecommunications networks which comprise a large number of network elements. The network elements are presented as a hierarchical diagram or as a map display on a graphical user interface. In accordance with the invention, the graphical user interface presents performance information of the network element as a graphical presentation (41, 41A, 42, 42A, 43, 43A) in connection with the network element symbol in such a way that the operator can, at one glance, identify the network elements that are the most important in terms of the operation of the network or the network elements most affected by faults. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, the alarm situation of each element is displayed as a graphical presentation (36) along with the network element symbol on the graphical user interface simultaneously with the graphical presentation representing the performance.
