  • Patent number: 8903369
Abstract: Systems and techniques for managing interference between pico cells in a pico cluster. Pico eNodeBs are configured in groups for each of a plurality of UEs, based on factors such as signal to noise ratio and geographic location. All signals from UEs may be measured by all eNodeBs in the cluster, but a pico group decodes packets only of UEs associated with the pico group. Decoded packets are exchanged between pico groups, and when a pico group is unable to decode packets of an associated UE, is uses the decoded packets received in exchanges to reconstruct an interference signal. The interference signal is subtracted from the received signal and the resulting received signal is used to decode the packets of the UE.

  • Patent number: 8897798
Abstract: Systems and techniques for scheduling of use of resources by wireless devices and allocation of resources among devices. Information is received relating to channel efficiency experienced by a user equipment and also to the channel efficiency experienced by other user equipments. The information may include channel gain. Scheduling and resource allocation are performed so as to provide service to each device while minimizing interference penalties imposed by devices on one another. Scheduling and resource allocation may be evaluated and conducted through a number of mechanisms, such as ranking users according to transmit power, ranking user equipments according to target signal to noise ratios, and evaluation of relative advantages to users with the evaluation being performed resource block by resource block. The various metrics take into account both advantages to a particular user equipment under consideration and detrimental effects on other user equipment.

  • Patent number: 8892113
Abstract: A method for coordinating spectrum evacuation is described which is useful for spectrum sharing, authorized/licensed shared access, secondary access, dynamic spectrum access, cognitive radio, general authorized access, etc. whereby access to a spectrum can be increased via buying usage right from a higher priority, primary or incumbent user, and/or via opportunistic access to unoccupied/unused spectrum. Enabling efficient spectrum evacuation guarantees limited impact to system performance while ensuring that the other user gets the spectrum back when needed. The method includes selecting a first subset of UEs for transitioning from a first bandwidth to a second bandwidth. During a first time period, the method includes, for each UE in the first subset, instructing the UE to transition using dedicated signaling.
