  • Patent number: 6611547
Abstract: The invention relates to a connection-oriented packet-based communication network, in which the terminal and the network access point of the terminal may move in the network. When the access point of the terminal changes during an active connection, the routing connection can also be changed from an old access point to a new one. The old access point may comprise buffered cells, which can be transferred to the new access point without packet loss. A connection from the old access point to the new one is established dynamically, when required. The connection establishment is controlled by a third network element, which is responsible for controlling the change of access point. The old access point can be arranged to send signaling messages and to establish a connection without requiring any additional intelligence at the access point. Upon the connection being established, the old access point sends buffered unsent packets to the new access point.

  • Patent number: 6603734
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for eliminating interference in an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) radio receiver In the method, coded signals that are transmitted on subcarriers are received, reliability information generated for the signals being used in their soft decoding In accordance with the invention, the signal-to-interference ration of the subcarrier is used as the reliability information, the signal-to-interference ratio being defined by dividing the amplitude of the received signal by the interference amplitude. The interference amplitude is generated by calculating the deviation of the amplitudes of a set of selected signals from the average amplitude level of the set of signals. The average amplitude level of the set of signals is the mean value, median or some other statistical quantity indicative of the average level of the amplitudes of the set of signals.

  • Patent number: 6603738
Abstract: General Packet Radio Service is a new service designed for digital mobile systems. Because of bottlenecks, such as an air interface (Um), queues may be formed in routers. Long transmissions of data may slow the operation of interactive applications so that it is no longer sensible to use the applications. In the routers, separate queues are formed for each service, quality of service, connection, subscriber and/or application/application class. Quality of service can be indicated by providing each packet with an identity indicating the quality, or a change in the quality can be signalled as separate messages. The amount of data sent from a queue at one go may be controlled primarily based on quality of service of the subscriber. When packets are sent from a queue, it is monitored whether only a small number of packets remains in the queue, and if so, these packets are sent as well.

  • Patent number: 6574336
Abstract: The invention relates to an acoustic echo suppressor and a non-linear processor for an echo canceller in a 4-wire data transmission network. An echo canceller is typically controlled by comparing the power levels of the near-end and far-end signals. The transfer function of an acoustic echo path is usually very non-uniform. According to the invention, the spectrum of the far-end signal is treated, before the signal power level is calculated, with a weighted filter, which models the effect of the transfer function of acoustic echo. As a result, the double talk dynamics is improved, since high-energy vowels of far-end speech, which normally cause low-energy vowels of near-end speech to be clipped in an echo suppresseor, will be attenuated.

  • Patent number: 6563789
Abstract: The invention relates to a data transmission method and equipment in a telecommunication system, particularly in a situation where the maximum data rate of a traffic channel is equal to one user data rate at a terminal interface. A mobile station inserts terminal interface status information in redundant parts of redundant user data elements of an end-to-end transmission protocol and sends them through the traffic channel without that the status information raises the data rate. If no user data elements are received at the terminal interface, auxiliary frames, in which the terminal interface status information can be transmitted, are generated. A mobile services switching centre separates the terminal interface status information from the redundant data elements or auxiliary frames at the receiving end.

  • Patent number: 6538992
Abstract: A method and system supports multilevel QoS (Quality of Service) in transferring a plurality of packets from a local peer entity to a remote peer entity of a communication system, such as a mobile environment using AAL2. During AAL2 Negotiation Procedures (ANP), QoS requirement of each user is obtained either from the user or a computed based on the call setup and is recorded in a ANP memory. After a successful call request negotiation and after a corresponding packet is received by a AAL2 service module, the packet's QoS recorded in the memory is checked. Based on the QoS, the packet is placed into a queue of the AAL2 service module with the same QoS such that a plurality of packets having the same QoS are grouped into the same queue. The packets are transferred from the local peer entity to the remote peer entity based on different QoS requirements.
