  • Patent number: 6735449
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, by which to facilitate regulation of power levels of a communication signal generated during operation of a communication system. Closed-loop power control is effectuated by selectively generating a power control command such as a power up or power down command responsive to calculated time rates of change of a calculated difference value. By generating a power command responsive to calculations of time rates of change, earlier decisions are made of the power control commands than conventionally permitted in conventional closed-loop power control schemes.

  • Patent number: 6735564
Abstract: A method and arrangement for managing talk groups of a telecommunication system at a dispatcher station of the telecommunications system having one or more talk groups which may consist of one or more users and which are controlled by the dispatcher at the dispatcher station. The arrangement includes a two-channel or a multichannel sound reproducing system which is configured to create an artificial acoustic space at the dispatcher station, and reproduce voices of each talk group so that the voices are heard from a certain point of the acoustic space, which allows the dispatcher to recognize the talk group to which the voice belongs on the basis of the location of the voice.

  • Patent number: 6733005
Abstract: The invention relates to an electromechanical structure of an extendable electrical device comprising a body part (300) and a sleeve-like grip part (301). The smooth longitudinal movement between a retracted and extended position is effected by a clockspring in a spring barrel (302). A belt is wrapped around the barrel, and a slide part (306) is attached to the free end of the belt. When the device is retracted, the slide part with the belt slides along a longitudinal groove (304) made on at least one side of the body part until the slide part is interlocked. In response to pushing a releasing element, the interlocking is released, whereupon the belt is wrapped around the barrel and the body part slides smoothly to extended position.

  • Patent number: 6735185
Abstract: Increased data rate transmission in the reverse traffic channel is obtained by modifying a core reverse CDMA traffic channel signal generator and modulator by creating a plurality of parallel pathways, each of which includes a Walsh modulator and a modulo-2 adder which direct-sequence spreads the modulated data using one of a plurality of modified long codes. The DS-spread data signals from each of the parallel pathways are summed and split to the I and Q channels for PN code spreading. The long code variations are obtained by varying one or more bits of the IS-95 standard public long code mask or private long code mask, specifically, one or more bits of the most significant bit (MSB) string of the public long code mask (bits M41 through M32). Generally, each variable bit provides two possible code channels—one Fundamental Code Channel and 2b−1 Supplemental Code Channels, where b is the number of bits that can be varied within the long code mask.

  • Patent number: 6735186
Abstract: A method of optimizing the amount of data transmitted between a mobile station and a gateway. Data are transmitted from a web server in accordance with a first protocol to the gateway in response to a request from the mobile station. The gateway encodes the data from the web server into bytecodes in accordance with a second protocol by the gateway. The bytecodes are compressed using a compression algorithm and then transmitted to the mobile station. The mobile station receives the compressed bytecodes and decompresses the compressed bytecodes using a decompression algorithm. The decompressed bytecodes are decoded in accordance with the second protocol for presentation to a user.

  • Patent number: 6735180
Abstract: A method of sending feedback information in a fast physical layer hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) for frequency division duplex communications that form an overall wireless communication system is described in which the received packets are acknowledged by transmitting feedback data to the sender, wherein the acknowledgement comprises the reservation of obtaining a plurality of slots in the uplink/downlink dedicated channel radio frame for the feedback data alone. It is also directed to the transmission of feedback data used in specified slots within each radio frame, wherein the first slot used is based upon the time offset between uplink and downlink channels, as well as based upon the time required for de-interleaving, de-ratematching, decoding and error checking. In an alternative embodiment, the method uses dedicated physical control channel (DPCCH) bits in at least some of the slots for transmitting such feedback data to the sender.

  • Patent number: 6735242
Abstract: A novel design of, and method of operation for, a coherent delay lock loop (DLL) for communication systems that employ a pilot channel or pilot symbols is disclosed. Pilot information is used to produce an estimate of signal phase and thereby remove the need for the magnitude operation within the DLL arms. The disclosed design and method afford better time-tracking performance by avoiding the squaring loss (due to the magnitude operation) encountered in noncoherent DLL designs. Alternative embodiments disclose designs and methods that are robust to signal amplitude variation. A first alternative normalizes a DLL error signal by a computed estimate of the squared magnitude of the pilot signal. A second alternative normalizes the error signal using only the early and late signals and therefore is applicable for noncoherent DLL designs as well as coherent DLL designs.

  • Patent number: 6735203
Abstract: The invention relates to a switch arrangement for a packet-switched telecommunications network. The switch arrangement comprises several input ports and several output ports, a switching fabric (SWN), and an output unit (OUi) between each output port and the switching fabric, the output unit comprising an output buffer (OB) in which outbound packets are stored. In the switch, virtual connections are used for packet switching and serial numbers in packets belonging to each virtual connection are used to identify the relative order of the packets. The output unit (OUi) maintains virtual connection-specific information on the serial number of the currently anticipated packet, and the packets belonging to a given virtual connection are ordered in the correct sequence in accordance with the serial numbers of the packets.

Abstract: A standard socket interface is provided to implement socket redundancy. The interface includes socket options to create redundant sockets, obtain the status of redundant sockets, as well as providing error information relating to redundant sockets. A redundant socket may be created on a standby side that becomes active should the active side fail. The standby socket is associated with the active side socket. When an active side fails that has a redundant socket created, the standby side socket seamlessly takes over the sockets operations.

  • Patent number: 6731954
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of improving radio connection (170) quality in a cellular radio network and a cellular radio network. The cellular radio network comprises a vase station system (126) and subscriber terminals (150). Between the base station system (126) and the subscriber terminal (150) there is a bidirectional radio connection (170) using a directional antenna beam (304, 306). In the method, a direction of arrival (302A) of the antenna beam (304A) directed on the basis of a radio signal (304A) received uplink, transmitted by the subscriber terminal (150) is formed in the base station system (126). The base station system (126) transmits a radio signal (306) downlink to the subscriber terminal (150) in the direction of transmission (308) formed on the basis of the direction of arrival (302A). In forming the direction of transmission (308) a preknown number (L) of previously formed directions of arrival (402, 302C, 302B, 302A) are utilized.
