Abstract: The invention relates to three different methods for updating a linear feedback shift register of a code generator, and code generators applying the methods. In the basic method a Galois-type linear feedback shift register of a code generator is updated to a target state which is at a known offset from a unit state. The basic method comprises the following: (302) generating a binary offset number illustrating the offset; (304) generating a counter showing the number of bits in the binary offset number; (306) initializing a temporary state with the unit state; (308) iterating as long as the counter value is higher than zero: (310) multiplying the temporary state by itself by applying a Galois Field multiplication; (312) shifting the temporary state one state forward from the current temporary state if the value of the bit shown by the counter is one; and (314) decrementing the counter value by one; (316) in the end, when the counter has reached the value zero, setting the temporary state as the target state.
Abstract: The invention involves a mobile phone and strap apparatus for carrying a mobile phone. A mobile phone is provided with openings in the corners of the mobile phone housing through which a flexible line is passed and cooperates with a strap and latch that secures ends of the flexible line. The strap, latch and flexible line are adapted to secure an object between the mobile phone housing, the flexible line and strap when ends of the flexible line are drawn through the latch.
Abstract: A method and system for estimating the location of a mobile station in a telecommunications network having a reference base station and a plurality of neighboring base stations. At the beginning of the E-OTD measurement, the mobile station may be provided with the expected OTD values in the reference base station site, possibly instead of RTD values of the neighboring base stations, to make it possible for the mobile station to calculate the uncertainty in the measured OTD due to its unknown location. Alternatively, the network provides the mobile station the expected OTD values in its current location, and the estimated uncertainty of those values. When the uncertainty is greater than a predetermined value, the mobile station makes E-OTD measurements based on the SCH burst. Otherwise, the mobile station makes measurements based on normal/dummy bursts, and/or aligns the time window for taking samples from signals received from neighboring base stations.
Abstract: A transmission system for relaying short messages comprising a sender of short messages and a receiver of short messages. The short message sender comprises sending means for sending a deleting short message including at least the address of the receiver and the identifier of a short message to be deleted. The short message receiver comprises identification means for identifying the deleting short message and deletion means for deleting the short message according to the identifier of the short message to be deleted in the deleting short message from the memory intended for the short messages of the receiver.
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating communications in a radio communication system that utilizes shared, packet channels. One or more common control channels are defined upon a forward link extending between a network part of the radio communication system and the mobile stations thereof. Assignment information sets so generated by an assignment information generator and formatted into data frames for communication to the mobile stations. The mobile stations monitor a single shared packet control channel to receive the assignment information sent thereto upon the common shared channel.

Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for a communication station, such as a mobile station operable pursuant to an IS-95/IS-2000 communication service and an HDR (High Data Rate) data communication service. Abstract: The invention relates to a method for temperature compensation in an electric circuit. In order to get rid of costly manufacturing processes and external components, a PTAT resistor is replaced by a series connection of two resistive elements (Rx, 31), the first of said elements (Rx) having essentially constant resistance regardless of the temperature, and the second element (31) having a resistance which is non-linearly dependent on the temperature. The resistance value of the first element is selected so that an approximation of the resistance of said series connection is directly proportional to the temperature.
Abstract: The invention relates to a synchronous data transmission when the maximum data rate of the traffic channel equals one of the user data rates at the terminal interface. Such a situation may occur for example when a satellite system is connected as a base station system to a mobile system. A mobile station (MS) inserts the terminal interface status information (STATUS) in the redundant parts (REDUNDANT) of the protocol data units (PDU) of the transmission protocol used at the terminal interface and transmits the protocol units through a satellite traffic channel to a land earth station (LES). The land earth station (LES) is arranged to extract said status information from the protocol data units and to restore the original redundancy to the protocol data units.
Abstract: A reception method and receiver in a system employing a CDMA method, which comprises means for digitizing a received transmission. The received transmission comprises a desired signal and a plurality of interfering signals, which signals are each multiplied by a code of a known code set. To cancel effectively the multiple access interference, the receiver comprises means for canceling at least some of the interfering signals from the desired signal, and means for detecting the desired signal after transmission, and means for canceling the effect of the interference signals from the desired signal.
Abstract: Disclosed is a wireless communications system, in the preferred embodiment a GSM/EDGE Radio Access Network system, that includes a Logical Link Control layer of a mobile station and a Logical Link Control layer of a Serving General Packet Radio Service Support Node that are coupled together through a Gb interface. Abstract: Synchronization is ensured in a receiving unit between received DS-CDMA coded multipath signals and a provided code, which signals are provided to a plurality of Rake fingers 1, 2. Each of the Rake fingers correlates received signals of a multipath associated to the respective Rake finger with the provided code. In order to enable a reduction of interferences between the multipaths, it is proposed that for each Rake finger an interference from signals of multipaths associated to the other Rake fingers is estimated, based on characteristics of pulse shaping filters employed by a transmitting unit and the receiving unit, on estimated propagation delays on the multipaths and on the correlation results in the Rake fingers. The method further comprises subtracting the respective estimated interference from the correlation result in the corresponding Rake finger. The invention relates equally to a corresponding software, ASIC and receiving unit.

The method includes, prior to receiving information in a bit-wise manner with the receiver in a first band of radio frequencies, generating a notification of reception with the receiver by asserting a DVB_RX_ON signal (16A) and, in response to the notification, requesting a change of transmitter transmission frequencies from a second band of radio frequencies to a third band of radio frequencies that is predetermined to avoid interference with the reception of the information in the first band of radio frequencies.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for supporting in a mobile terminal 10,30 the operation of an accessory device 20,40 connected to this mobile terminal 10,30. Abstract: A method and an apparatus in a short range wireless communication stores a list of keywords and a type list of information indicative of content and services available at an Access Point. A user terminal creates and stores a similar list of keyword and types. The user requests the keyword and types from the Access Point. This list is transmitted to the user within the service discovery protocol during connection set-up. The user Keyword list and Types are matched to the Access point Keywords and Types list to determine if a session should be established or terminated. The Access point may also connect to the terminal to obtain a list of the terminal Keywords and Types to determine if content is available to push to the terminal.
Abstract: High speed data packet access (HSDPA) is facilitated by ensuring that power offsets are delivered to the base station (Node B) so that the new functions envisioned therefor having to do with scheduling and retransmission handling can be carried out effectively. A signal primitive having one or more information elements indicative of corresponding power offsets are received by the Node B, saved for future use and then signalled back to the serving radio network controller so that the user equipment can be informed with a proper RRC message containing the appropriate power offsets.
Abstract: A system and method for combining the downlink signals from at least two transceivers to increase the power of the downlink signal. In-phase down link signals from at least two transceivers are combined to produce a downlink output signal having an output power level greater than the power level of any single downlink signal. Detector means, which samples the downlink signals to identify a phase difference is coupled to control a phase controller which adjusts the phase of at least one of the downlink signals to be in step with the phase of the other downlink signal. The phase controller maintains the downlink signals in phase by shifting the phase of at least one of the downlink signals relative to the other.

Abstract: A multimode queuing system for DiffServ routers is provided. The multimode buffering and scheduling system that can be adjusted to show either “pure” AF/EF behavior, “pure” DSUI behavior, or a combination of the AF/EF behavior and the DSUI behavior. An operation point parameter may be set to select the desired behavior. DiffServ products utilizing the combination of the behaviors are flexible and more configurable as compared to only AF/EF products. The multimode queuing system deployment is simple and is a low cost modification to DiffServ routers. The same hardware and/or software implementation can support both mechanisms with very small additional cost and effort. Also the management of the system is simplified. For example, there is no need for several parallel queuing systems.
Abstract: Mechanisms for QoS mapping rules on a mobile network between a UMTS layer and an IP layer are provided. A policy server is coupled to the SGSNs and GGSNs on the mobile network and maintains a centralized location for layer QoS mapping on the mobile network. Three mapping mechanisms have been provided, including an out-sourcing mechanism, a provisioning mechanism, and a hybrid mechanism. The out-sourcing mechanism uses the policy server to handle PDP context events and supply the appropriate rules to the appropriate support node. Under the provisioning mechanism, the policy server pushes down the corresponding mapping rules to each support node across the network in advance of any PDP context event. The hybrid mechanism utilizes a combination of the out-sourcing mechanism and the provisioning mechanism. The mechanisms ensure consistent UMTS layer QoS to IP layer QoS mapping across a mobile network.
