Abstract: A system and method for provisioning wireless devices such that they are only capable of accessing network services when in a specified location. A device surveys the current location of the device for existing base stations and stores a corresponding network environment profile. After the profile is stored, network services will only be provided to the device if the current network profile matches the stored profile.
Abstract: An on board diagnostic (OBD) device having a radio modem is provided. An antenna of the radio modem is connected to a printed circuit board (PCB) housed within a plastic housing, where the PCB has a ground plane which is extended by a conductive extension. The conductive extension lengthens an effective length of a counterpoise of the antenna without necessitating an increase in size of the OBD device/plastic housing, resulting in maintaining a small form factor for the OBD device, while increasing antenna efficiency and/or bandwidth.

Abstract: A system for maneuvering an aircraft for operations in connection with a sea-going vessel, the vessel having a designated area for landings and sling-load operations. Each of the aircraft has a navigation unit (INU) comprising a GPS receiver and an inertial navigation unit. The INU's are updated by data from the GPS receivers and the data from the shipboard unit's GPS receiver and INU are transmitted to the aircraft. The aircraft performs RTK calculations to determine a vector to the shipboard GPS antennas and modifies the vector with data from the INU's.

Abstract: A method, computer code product for limiting a wireless communication device to a specified geographic zone. The device is configured to connect to a subscriber device in a subscriber network and determine if the subscriber device is on a list of preapproved subscriber devices in the specified geographic zone. The device can also be configured to determine if it is connected to a subscriber device on at least one neighbor list of approved subscriber devices. If the device is connected to a subscriber device on the preapproved list or a neighbor list, the device is permission as if it is in the geographic zone. Additional subscriber devices can be added to the neighbor list(s) when the device is handed off from an approved subscriber device based on the previous subscriber device to which the device was connected.
Abstract: A Universal Serial Bus (USB) modem/Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) device is provided that when connected to a host device, presents itself as an Ethernet endpoint to the host device, without requiring additional software/drivers to be downloaded to the host device. Embedded in the USB modem/WWAN device are various modules that provide functionality allowing either automatic connection to the Internet or redirection to a local Web User Interface (UI) that a user may employ to configure the USB modem/WWAN device and/or manually connect to the Internet. Additionally, the USB modem/WWAN device employs predetermined rules to determine whether or not/how the redirection occurs, including in scenarios where wireless connectivity to the Internet is unavailable.

Abstract: A chirp receiver processes broadcast chirp signals in the frequency domain to distinguish direct path signals from multipath signals. The receiver processes received chirp signals consisting of respective pulsed frequency sweeps by combining the signals with a synchronized local chirp signal and phase adjusting and concatenating the results over multiple sweeps based on estimated clock phase errors and expected phase rotations of the direct path signals, and produces a sine wave. The phase adjustment and concatenation allows the use of longer Fast Fourier Transforms, which provide increased accuracy of frequency estimation and separate component signals that are very close in frequency. The frequency corresponding to the direct path signal is identified by the lowest frequency bin in which power is above a predetermined noise threshold. The receiver then determines a time delay based on the identified frequency and uses the time delay to calculate accurate clock phase error and position.
Abstract: A system and method for automatically controlling working edges on a heavy equipment vehicle is provided. A GNSS/INS system determines a location of the vehicle. A vision system calculates a location of the working edge in a vision system coordinate system by obtaining images of a target connected to the working edge using a camera with a fixed field view that incorporates the relative movement of the target and determining the relative position of the target in the images. The location is then transformed to the navigation system coordinate system. The transformed location information is used by a working edge control system to control the placement of the working edge.
Abstract: A system and method for augmenting a GNSS/INS system by using a vision system is provided. The GNSS system generates GNSS location information and the INS system generates inertial location information. The vision system further generates vision system location information based on pitch, roll, heading and velocity of the vessel. A Kalman filter de-weights the inertial location information in response to the vessel entering a low dynamic environment, while the weighting of the vision system location information is increased.
Abstract: A robotic total station includes a camera and a pattern recognition subsystem that automatically determine an azimuth angle to which to direct a laser on the total station for target re-acquisition. The camera records images that scan a search area of interest, and the pattern recognition subsystem processes the images to locate the target in one or more of the images as a predetermined pixel pattern that is based on a distinct characteristic of the target, such as a shape of the target, a color of the target, markings present on the target, and so forth. The subsystem calculates the azimuth angle of the target based on the location of the target in the images, the pointing direction of the camera and the known characteristics of the camera. The robotic total station then rotates to the azimuth angle and directs laser pulses to re-acquire the target.
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining whether a device has moved based upon sensed changes to the observed magnetic field are disclosed herein. Various embodiments function on the principle that it is highly unlikely that the observed magnetic field will be the same in any two given locations (at least, when the observed magnetic field is measured in three dimensions), and moreover, it is unlikely that the observed magnetic field will change if the device remains stationary. Various embodiments therefore include one or more magnetic sensors (e.g., a compass) disposed within the device. The device can be configured to periodically check its current reading of the observed magnetic field. If the device determines that its magnetic reading has changed relative to its last reading, a possible or actual relocation event can then be declared.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that allow a media streaming device to dynamically control the quality of service associated with streaming media content being presented to a user. To dynamically control the quality of service associated with the streaming media content, the local environment in which the media streaming device, and one or more downstream devices which may be configured to receive the streaming media content, if present, operate, is monitored. Feedback regarding the status of the local environment can be gleaned based on the monitoring, and based on the feedback, the quality of service associated with the streaming media content can be adjusted accordingly, or the streaming media content may be paused, altogether terminated, maintained, or initiated/re-initiated. To further refine the feedback, user behavior may also be monitored, which can be suggestive of a user's attentiveness to the streaming media content.
Abstract: A system for enabling the viewing, distributing and/or manipulation of stored data or applications on a host device when the host device is in a power-save, dormant or other semi-active state. In one embodiment, a peripheral device is provided which runs its own native operating system. When the peripheral device is connected to the host device, which is running a different native operating system, the peripheral device is capable of sharing files that are stored on the host device, thereby permitting the viewing, editing, transferring or other manipulation of the files. In another embodiment, a wireless modem or similar device is integrated into the host device. When the host device enters a power-save or dormant state, a hand-off occurs to the wireless modem such that the files contained on the host device remain accessible.
Abstract: A directional slot antenna comprises a radiating component coupled to a reflector. A reflector spacing gap or cavity between the radiating component and the reflector has a height which is less than a predetermined height of a free-space reflector spacing cavity associated with desired gains for frequencies of interest. A dielectric material insert is positioned within the reflector spacing cavity and fills or partially fills the cavity. The reduced-height cavity including the dielectric material insert provides an increased electrical separation between the radiating component and the reflector that corresponds to the predetermined height of the free-space reflector spacing cavity.
