Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a three-dimensional, degradable medical implant for regeneration of soft tissue comprising a plurality of volume-building components and a mesh component which is substantially made of monofilament or multifilament fibers, wherein each volume-building component is attached to at least one point on a surface of the mesh component, and wherein the projected surface area of each volume-building component, when projected on the surface of the mesh component, corresponds to a maximum of one tenth of the surface area of the mesh component.
Abstract: The present invention provides sulfoxide compounds comprising hydrophobic ester or amide moieties such that the compounds have surfactant properties. Also provided are methods for using the sulfoxide compounds or mixtures of the sulfoxide compounds in a variety of applications.
Abstract: The invention relates to matrix and layer compositions comprising a first polymer. The matrix and layer compositions are useful in the delivery of bioactives. In particular, the matrices and layers may have advantageous properties including mechanical properties and protection of bioactives and may also provide for pH-dependent release of a bioactive.

Abstract: Improved methods for anaerobic digestion of organic matter to produce biogas. Among the improvements given are including ferric iron in a hydrolysis reactor to increase the rate and efficiency of anaerobic hydrolysis to provide substrates for methanogenesis. A solids separation step is added after hydrolysis and before methanogenesis to improve the efficiency of the methanogenesis step. Other improvements involve using separate tanks for the hydrolysis and methanogenesis stages and using two (or more) methanogenesis tanks in sequence, and switching the order of the two (or more) methanogenesis tanks periodically.

Abstract: A building structure and a method for incorporating flexibility of intended use into the building are disclosed. The building structure includes a plurality of enclosures which are individually permitted for use as either of a residence or commercial space, or as a combined live/work space. Each of the plurality of enclosures is compliant with the applicable legal requirements for use as either of a residence or a commercial space, including the applicable local zoning requirements. The enclosures may include movable interior walls which are designed to facilitate conversions between residential use and commercial use.
Abstract: KiloWatt-level, large footprint, high power density thermoelectric modules are disclosed for high temperature applications. The thermoelectric modules utilize a compliant interface that reduces thermal mismatch stress and allows thermoelectric devices to be fabricated with dimensions greater than 6×6 cm.
