  • Patent number: 4566251
Abstract: The disclosure illustrates and describes a modular forming, sterilizing, filling and sealing machine for containers, including a front bottom forming and sealing section; an intermediate sterilizing section; and a rear filling, top forming and sealing section; and separate conveyor means in each section. The conveyor means in the sterilizing section is adapted to receive the containers from the conveyor means in the bottom forming and sealing section in an upright, open-topped condition and convey same transverse to the line of travel in the forming and sealing sections through a sterilant vapor atmosphere wherein the sterilant vapor condenses on all surfaces of each upright, open-topped container, and then rotates the containers from the upright position to an upside-down condition through a heated and air blown atmosphere, and back to an upright condition onto the conveyor means in the filling, top forming and sealing section.

  • Patent number: 4564995
Abstract: A composite machine tool for metal working, provided with a pair of vertical columns. On the front and rear sides of the vertical columns, there are provided a vertical lathe and a milling machine, respectively, able to be driven and operated independently of each other. Machining by these machine tools is effected on a workpiece rested on a pallet. A pallet transfer apparatus for conveying a succession of pallets with workpieces is provided between the vertical lathe and the milling machine and between the vertical columns. When each turning operation in the vertical lathe is finished, the corresponding pallet with the workpiece rested thereon is immediately conveyed into the milling machine by the pallet transfer apparatus. The composite machine tool is particularly useful in reducing the time for conveying comparatively heavy workpieces.

  • Patent number: 4565356
Abstract: A fiber reinforced plastic leaf spring including a curved central section and a pair of end sections, each having a bushing to receive a connecting member. The spring is formed from a plurality of longitudinally extending substantially continuous strands of fibrous material impregnated with a cured thermosetting resin which are wound in a loop configuration around the bushings. The windings consist of a pair of generally parallel runs which extend between the bushings and are disposed in contiguous relation and the resin is cured to formed an integral structure. Each bushing includes a tubular section and at least one circumferentially extending rib that extends outwardly from the tubular section and is encapsulated in the fibrous windings. The ribs act to prevent delamination of the two runs along the neutral axis of the spring when the spring is subjected to load in service.

  • Patent number: 4564740
Abstract: The proposed method relates to the ionization of plasma-generating gas in a ilot arc before being supplied to the electrode region, thus generating charges in this electrode region, the charges promoting dispersion of an arc spot. For this purpose, an electrode assembly is provided within the plasma-arc torch, which electrode assembly comprises a hollow tungsten electrode and a solid electrode of the same metal, the solid electrode being radially spaced from the hollow electrode. Both electrodes are put in an electric power circuit, whereby an arc is initiated between the electrodes when switching on the electric circuit, plasma being generated in the arc, which plasma serves to start the main arc and provides for dispersion of the arc spot over the surface of the hollow electrode. This decreases the current density in the arc spots and, hence, minimizes electrode erosion.

  • Patent number: 4562861
Abstract: Thermal conduction through a liquid line is deterred when liquid is not flowing through it by lodging a double-acting spring-centered plunger in a constricted section of a passage connecting opposite ends of a barrel in the line. Such plunger can be displaced from the passage constricted section in either direction to a passage expanded section automatically by pressure of liquid in the line resulting from opening a valve in the line.

  • Patent number: 4562025
Abstract: Apparatus and a process for manufacturing multiple color thin walled hollow shells for parts such as automobile door panels, controls and instrument panels from thermoplastic plastisol includes a plastisol box divider to form two or more compartments in a plastisol charge box and means for joining the charge box divider end-to-end with a mold separation edge on an open-ended heated mold for separating the mold into two or more sections; each compartment of the charge box has a different color plastisol. The charge box and mold are joined and then are rotated so that the plastisol is distributed into each mold section by gravity flow with the plastisol from each section flowing to the divider which separates the colors so as to form two or more tones on a resultant shell of cured material.

  • Patent number: 4561218
Abstract: In the internal grinding of a cylindrical bore having an oil or similar groove which adversely affects the bore roundness achievable, one or more streams of liquid coolant are directed over the grinding wheel during rough grinding at a high wheel feed rate and only a mist of liquid coolant droplets suspended in a compressed air stream is directed over the wheel once the high wheel feed rate has been reduced to the lower wheel feed rate associated with finish grinding. Means are provided for terminating the liquid coolant streams at the time the wheel feed rate is changed or after a short delay period thereafter to establish equilibrium finish grind conditions. Preferably, the change from one or more liquid coolant streams to the coolant mist is made in response to a detected decrease in wheel spindle motor power.

  • Patent number: 4556204
Abstract: A fiber reinforced resin leaf spring including a curved central section and a pair of generally circular end sections connected to the respective ends of the central section. Each end section defines an opening to receive a connecting member. The spring is wound from an endless strand of substantially continuous fibers impregnated with a cured thermosetting resin. A plurality of longitudinally extending ribs are formed in the neck region of the spring, which joins the curved central section to the respective end sections. The ribs, which extend alternately upwardly and downwardly from a plane extending through the neutral axis of the spring, increase the stiffness of the spring in the neck region and prevent delamination of the fibrous windings during service.
