  • Patent number: 4003620
Abstract: Marine electrical cable apparatus has a flexible cable jacket loosely containing cable conductors and filled with a relatively incompressible fluid such as oil. The jacket flexes with changes in the environmental pressure to transmit that pressure to the inner fluid and thereby maintain minimal pressure differential across the jacket walls. Terminations at each end of the cable seal the jacket interior from the environment and feed the cable conductors from within the jacket out for connection with further electrical equipment.

  • Patent number: 4002935
Abstract: A linear motor is operatively connected to operate a pair of axially aligned compressors. A pair of axially spaced and oppositely wound coils are mounted to a cylindrically shaped coil form movably connected to drive the aligned compressors with the coils serially connected to a single phase A.C. power source. A pair of spaced annular magnets provide a pair of annular poles of opposite polarity spaced immediately adjacent to the pair of coils while an outer annular flux conducting member connects the outer radial portions of the annular magnets. One embodiment spaces the pair of compressors at opposite axial extremities of the linear motor construction while a second embodiment centers the compressors within the movable coil form.

  • Patent number: 4001751
Abstract: A thermal fuse is disclosed in which a non-resettable bimetal snap disc operates with snap action to open the switch. The body assembly is provided by a unitary cup shaped molded body and a metallic disc cup which cooperate to enclose the switch cavity. The terminal and switch contact means are mounted on lateral projections and extend through adjacent openings into the switch cavity. A bumper extends between the disc and the movable contact to operate the switch in response to snap movement of the disc. The bumper is guided in opposed channels formed in the side of the body so that it is not necessary to provide an apertured wall or shield between the disc and the switch. Means are provided to allow resetting of the device after test operation during manufacture, but such mans are not available for user resetting of the device.

  • Patent number: 3996724
Abstract: Packaging apparatus for closing and sealing the open end of a carton of thermoplastic coated paperboard material or the like. A rotatable drum has a cylindrical wall that supports a plurality of carton closing and sealing units. During rotation of the drum, open ended cartons are successively picked-up at a carton receiving station and are carried by the drum to a carton delivery station. During the movement of the carton from the receiving to the delivery station, the open end of the carton is folded to a closed condition and the layers of the closed carton end are vibration welded together by one of the carton closing and sealing units. Each carton closing and sealing unit includes a pair of jaws movable between an open and closed position with respect to each other, a latching member for locking the jaws in their closed position, and a vibration welding device.

  • Patent number: 3997114
Abstract: In a high pressure spray cleaning apparatus and method there is provided separate pressurized flow circuits to separate inlets of a spray head. A chemical flow circuit delivers a cleaning chemical fluid under pressure and a carrier flow circuit delivers a heated carrier fluid, preferably water and or soap, under a relatively high pressure. The pressurized cleaning chemical fluid and heated water are intimately mixed and distributed by a novel spray head. A power-driven air compressor is coupled to a chemical storage tank containing a cleaning chemical in the chemical flow circuit. A power-driven positive displacement pump associated with a by-pass unloader valve regulates the pressure of the water from a water tank delivered to a heating coil in which the water is heated in the carrier flow circuit. When the heated water is not being sprayed at the spray head, it is automatically returned by the operation of the by-pass unloader valve at a reduced pressure to the water tank.

  • Patent number: 3995439
Abstract: A device for embedding objects such as continuous pipes into water bottoms comprises a support frame which is movable along the bottom on a drive track which is carried adjacent one side thereof. The support frame also carries a plurality of guide and drive rollers which are engageable with the object to be embedded and which engage the object to move the support frame along the object as the drive track advances along the water bottom. A bottom trenching device in the form of a ground mill with a rotatable cutting head is pivotally mounted on a support between the drive rollers and the drive track and it operates on the bottom to remove material therefrom to form a trench. The material may be subsequently directed backwardly over the object to be embedded after it is positioned in the trench.

  • Patent number: 3992045
Abstract: Porous, tubular core sections coated with a semipermeable membrane are joined at their ends by a simplified coupling member. Each coupling member or connector comprises a cylindrical flange member having helically ribbed or barbed nipples which fit tightly into the ends of bores of adjacent core sections. The ends of the cores abut against the circular part of the coupling member. The ribs on the nipples on the coupling member are resilient and deform when inserted. The nipples have neck parts of a smaller diameter adjacent the body part of the coupling member providing annular spaces between these neck parts and the bores of core members permitting continuous flow of permeate and cleaning solution into these spaces and helically along the nipples. There are no appendages, cavities or pockets in which permeate or cleaning solution could be trapped.
