Patent number: 9565138Abstract: Using a hash function, an L2/L3 switch can produce an FID for a data packet. The L2/L3 switch can select, from among potentially several stored VLAN flooding tables, a particular VLAN flooding table that is associated with a particular VLAN on which the data packet is to be carried. The rows of the particular VLAN flooding table can specify different combinations of the particular VLAN's egress ports. The L2/L3 switch can locate, in the particular VLAN flooding table, a particular row that specifies the FID. The L2/L3 switch can read, from the particular row, a specified subset of the egress ports that are associated with the particular VLAN. The L2/L3 switch can transmit copies of the data packet out each of the egress ports specified in the subset, toward analytic servers connected to those egress ports.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2014Date of Patent: February 7, 2017Assignee: Brocade Communications Systems, Inc.Inventors: Xiaochu Chen, Ivy Pei-Shan Hsu, Eswara Chinthalapati, Sanjeev Chhabria

Patent number: 9565028Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a switch. The switch includes an inter-switch multicast module and an edge multicast module. The inter-switch multicast module identifies for a first replication of a multicast packet an egress inter-switch port in a multicast tree rooted at the switch. The multicast tree is identified by an identifier of the switch. The edge multicast module identifies an egress edge port for a second replication of the multicast packet based on a multicast group identifier. The multicast group identifier is local within the switch.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2014Date of Patent: February 7, 2017Assignee: BROCADE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Venkata R. K. Patent number: 9565440Abstract: A video processing device includes a rate control module to determine more accurate initial quantization parameters at each scene switching point and to adjust the QP parameters in response to scene changes using a sum of variances metric and an estimated picture encoding cost metric from a coding complex estimation block. To determine a first quantization parameter set, a sum of variances metric and an estimated picture encoding cost metric for an initial set pictures of a video stream are used. A bit allocation module is to set a target bit allocation for infra-encoded pictures as substantially proportional to the sum of variances metric and substantially inversely proportional to the estimated picture encoding cost metric, and set a target bit allocation for forward predictive and bi-predictive pictures as substantially proportional to the estimated picture encoding cost metric and substantially inversely proportional to the sum of variances metric.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2013Date of Patent: February 7, 2017Assignee: VIXS SYSTEMS INC.Inventors: Ying Li, Xu Gang Zhao

Patent number: 9563514Abstract: A comprehensive approach to streaming backups for virtual machines (“VMs”) in a storage management system comprises improvements to the assignment of data agent proxies for VM secondary copy operations. New considerations in performing a VM streaming backup job include without limitation: determining and enforcing a system-wide per-proxy limit of concurrent data streams; generating an ordered priority list of the VMs to be backed up as a basis for choosing which proxies will back up the respective VM, though the illustrative system may not strictly adhere to the priority list based on further considerations; identifying a next available proxy based on data stream utilization at the proxy; and dynamically re-generating the priority list and re-evaluating considerations if some VMs become “stranded” due to a failure to be backed up. Secondary copy operations are distributed to proxies in ways that improve the chances of successfully completing VM streaming backups.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2015Date of Patent: February 7, 2017Assignee: Commvault Systems, Inc.Inventor: Henry Wallace Dornemann
