Abstract: A specimen grip assembly which can be used with a relatively light-weight jaw in a materials testing system. The specimen grip assembly illustratively contains a grip shell and a pair of wedge-shaped specimen grips. The shell has a truncated, frusto-pyramidal exterior shape with two outwardly facing inclined surfaces, both inclined at an angle and which matingly abut and slide against complementary inclined interior surfaces of the jaw. The grips are oriented in a recess within the shell such that inclined surfaces of the grips abut against interior complementary surfaces of the shell. The shell, containing the grips and specimen, is suitably positioned within the jaw, with the shell and grips then jacked into a fixed position. The shell substantially eliminates any noticeable compliance from the specimen grips that might otherwise arise from tensile and/or compressive forces applied to the jaw and specimen grip assemblies during a test program.

Abstract: Nucleic acids and vectors for interfering with the expression of membrane efflux transport proteins in cells that express such proteins are provided. Also provided are cells and cell lines comprising such nucleic acids and vectors. Methods for screening chemicals and biomolecules for gastrointestinal absorption in animals, and kits for practicing such methods are also provided.

Abstract: The killer applications of golfrisbee are comprised of the golfball, golh club, golfrisbee disc and golfrisbee basket, golfrisbee target, grenade, water golh gun club, etc. Swiveling the golh club, the flying object is thrown to fly into the golfrisbee basket. The golfrisbee basket has either the wind-bell-chain or the wind-chime reverted umbrella structure to protect the golfrisbee from damage. The flying object has golfball, golfrisbee disk, golfring, disk-ring, boomerang, polygon boomerang, multi-boomerang ring, multi-boomerang disk-ring, golfishing, golh hunting practice, grenade, gun golh club, water grenade, water gun golh club, etc. The golfrisbee further comprises a slotted skirt made of rubber material to make it safe for playing in the park and the backbone made of the shock-resistant plastic material. Abstract: Methods and apparatus for calculating paragraph layout. A method begins with a first node in a paragraph and calculates an optimal line break scheme for paragraph layout that ended in the node. For every subsequent node in the paragraph, the method calculates an optimal line break scheme for paragraph layout that ends respectively in every subsequent node. Each optimal line break scheme is calculated by minimizing the total of a penalty value of a current line and all preceding penalties of all preceding lines. The preceding penalties of all preceding lines are defined by a previously calculated optimal line break scheme.

Abstract: The technology disclosed relates to variable tapers to resolve varying overlaps between adjacent strips that are lithographically printed. Technology disclosed combines an aperture taper function with the variable overlap taper function to transform data and compensate for varying overlaps. The variable taper function varies according to overlap variation, including variation resulting from workpiece distortions, rotor arm position, or which rotor arm printed the last stripe. Particular aspects of the present invention are described in the claims, specification and drawings.

Abstract: The present invention includes a method of treating a hydrocarbon-bearing clastic formation having non-connate water, the method includes contacting the hydrocarbon-bearing clastic formation with a composition that includes a solvent and a surfactant wherein the solvent at least partially displaces or solubilizes the water in the formation.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed that can be used to interface a microchannel plate (MCP) with readout circuitry. The techniques can be employed, for instance, with MCP based devices used in a numerous sensing/detection applications, and are particularly suitable for applications where it is desirable to interface an MCP having a relatively large active area to a readout circuit having a relatively smaller active area. The interface effectively decouples anode geometry from ROIC geometry and may also be configured with flexible anode pad geometry, which allows for compensation of optical blur variations as well as a very high fill factor. The interface can be made using standard semiconductor materials and photolithography techniques, and can be configured with thermal expansion qualities that closely track or otherwise match that of the readout circuitry.

Abstract: Wire-holders are provided that confine a single wire over a limited arc section and that are interspersed with ferrite ingots that provide wire-ways for several wires are utilized in the winding of the coils of a transformer. A method for consistently producing windings having accurate wire placement on rotors, stators, and other electrical componentry is also provided.

Abstract: In a tank system, a venting line (6) connects the fuel tank to an activated carbon filter, and a recirculating line (10) opens into a filler head (3). In order to prevent the penetration of liquid fuel into the activated carbon filter, to permit the seal to be checked by applying a partial vacuum and to provide a filler head which can be manufactured inexpensively, an insertion body (22) is provided which forms a funnel (23) which is adjoined by a neck (24) which accommodates the fuel nozzle, which insertion body (22) has, in addition to the neck (24), two vertical blind holes (31, 32), open at the bottom, and a transverse duct (33) which connects the latter, wherein the first blind hole (31) is connected to the recirculating line (10), and a float (40), which clears or closes off the connection to the transverse duct (33), is guided in the second blind hole (32).

Abstract: A process of bleaching a wood pulp includes contacting the pulp with ozone to delignify the pulp in an ozone bleaching stage. A phosphonate chelant is added to the pulp so that the chelant is present with the pulp during the bleaching stage. The process excludes washing of the pulp to remove chelant between the chelant addition and the bleaching stage.

Abstract: A device (1) for the positioning of implantable leads includes a base unit (3) and at least two, preferably detachable, leads (5, 7). The distal end (27, 35) of each lead (5, 7), which is introduced into the tissue (11) to be treated, has at least two longitudinally spaced apart electrode surfaces (37, 39, 41, 43) for applying current to the tissue. The base unit (3) has computing element (17), current generating element (50) for generating an alternating current, and conductivity determining element (854) for determining the tissue conductivity between pairs of electrode surfaces (37-41) based on the alternating current applied by the current generating element to the tissue. By comparing readings taken between appropriate pairs of electrode surfaces, the relative position of the leads can be determined by triangulation. Methods for using the device and leads for use in the device are also described.

Abstract: The technology disclosed relates to translating between a Cartesian grid and a curved scanning path that produces varying exposure doses as the scanning head traces the curved scanning path. It can be applied to writing to or reading from a workpiece. In particular, we teach use of varying exposure dose that compensates for the time it takes for the curved scan path to transit a straight axis. This simplifies either modulation of a modulator, from which data is projected onto the workpiece, or analysis of data collected by a detector, onto which partial images of the workpiece are projected.

Abstract: A threat fire simulation system (40) for simulating a projectile impacting a user (26) includes an electrical impulse element (44) configured for physical contact with the user (26). A controller (42) is in communication with the electrical impulse element (44). The controller (42) enables receipt of a signal (54) for activating electrical impulse element (44) to deliver a non-disabling electrical pulse (46) to the user (26). The electrical pulse (46) simulates an impact of the projectile on the user (26).

Abstract: A system and method are provided for detecting connection status of a universal serial bus (USB) port of a mobile phone and a terminal device from among connecting, connected, disconnecting, or disconnected status. A voltage of the USB port is the same as a voltage of a charging interface of the mobile phone. The voltage of the charging interface is detected. The connection status of the mobile phone stored in a storage system is updated according to the voltage status of the charging interface.

Abstract: A transparent conductive film containing magnesium, at least one element (A) selected from the group consisting of carbon, silicon and boron, plus oxygen, and hydrogen. For example, this transparent conductive film may be manufactured by forming a film containing magnesium and an element (A) on a substrate and holding the film in an atmosphere containing water, which forming uses a target containing magnesium and a target containing the element (A) being at least one selected from the group consisting of carbon, silicon and boron.

Abstract: The invention relates to a corrugated or pleated flat material with a plurality of pleats or corrugations that run parallel to one another and successively define a pleat or corrugation peak and a pleat or corrugation valley, the peak and valley being connected to one another by way of a pleat or corrugation flank, wherein a fluid can flow through the flat material and the flat material has at least one deformable functional layer which rests on a supporting layer in the direction of throughflow of the fluid, said supporting layer comprising a supporting fabric, the functional layer allowing foreign substances to be removed from or delivered to the fluid. In order to develop the flat material in such a way that it has greater mechanical load-bearing capacity and lower resistance to throughflow, it is proposed according to the invention that the supporting fabric is deformable and comprises a twill weave.

Abstract: Disclosed is a server that provides session-persistent concurrent licenses for resources accessed by clients. In one embodiment, rather than requiring a license when the server is initially accessed, a license is not requested until a client seeks access to a licensed resource. In one implementation, scripts for Web pages associated with licensed resources include requests for licenses from a license management facility. Certain resources conditionally request a license based upon the origin of the access request: the license request may be bypassed for access requests from “pre-licensed” applications. Session-based licensing allows equitable assessment of compensation to a service provider for use of the services. The server includes many resources, some of which require a license for access while others do not. The services of premium value are the only ones for which customers are expected to obtain/claim a license.

The support structure having guiding rips that guide the movement of the actuating element in a housing upon actuation of the actuating element. The front cover having centering shoulders that contact the guiding rips for positioning the support structure relative to the front cover when the front cover is coupled to the support structure.

In addition, a three-dimensional puzzle which realizes a Fedrov space filling solid and has not conventionally existed is realized. According to the invention, a three-dimensional puzzle is provided having a regular polyhedron consisting of a plurality of convex polyhedrons which fill an interior of the regular polyhedron comprising the plurality of convex polyhedrons having a plurality of a pair of convex polyhedrons in a mirroring image relationship, wherein the plurality of convex polyhedrons are indivisible into two or more congruent shaped polyhedrons. In addition, the plurality of convex polyhedrons may be four convex polyhedrons and include three pairs of convex polyhedrons in a mirroring image relationship. Further the plurality of convex polyhedrons may be five convex polyhedrons and include four pairs of convex polyhedrons in a mirroring image relationship.

The method also includes searching the non-volatile storage unit for data except for the start up data, load the data except for the start up data into the volatile storage unit.
