  • Patent number: 10633966
Abstract: A technique facilitates pressure testing of a seal positioned between a wellhead and a subsea tree system. The technique utilizes an isolation sleeve which may comprise a mandrel having an internal mandrel passage as well as a lower seal and an upper seal positioned along an exterior of the mandrel. The isolation sleeve also may comprise a retention member mounted along the exterior of the mandrel. The retention member, e.g. a retention nut, may be rotatably mounted about the exterior of the mandrel and may comprise external threads or other mechanism for securing the isolation sleeve to the subsea tree system. In some embodiments, the upper end of the isolation sleeve may be constructed in a uniform manner for insertion into a universal profile of the subsea tree system.

  • Patent number: 10612593
Abstract: In rotating machine having a vertically oriented rotating shaft, a static magnetic force is used to simulate rotor weight and create the desired bearing preload. By installing a magnet the gravity based preload on the shaft journal bearings of a horizontal machine can be simulated for a vertical shaft. This can increase rotor stability, reduce the machine's vulnerability to hydraulically induced imbalance forces and give a more smooth transition through various shaft speeds.

  • Patent number: 10538985
Abstract: A stackable support system and method are disclosed to increase the final contact area of an expanding lock component by stacking one ring on top of another such that one ring acts as an actuator for the one beneath it. As a body lands inside a receptacle, e.g. a narrow cylinder lands inside a larger cylinder, the components or rings expand in a domino effect, resulting in a greater contact between the body and receptacle than would occur if there was only one component or ring. The stackable support system includes a number of expandable lock rings which stack on top of each other. These rings, when expanded, steadily increase in diameter, resulting in an overall larger surface on the bottom of the support system than could have been achieved with one ring.

  • Patent number: 10502054
Abstract: A technique facilitates monitoring of a multiphase fluid flow. The fluid flow is directed through a choke valve comprising a choke actuation system which controls a flow rate of the fluid passing through the choke valve. The choke valve also comprises a velocity reduction area which is created by a choke gallery. The choke gallery reduces the velocity of the fluid flow to encourage separation of phases of the multiphase fluid. A sensor is positioned along the gallery at a desired region to monitor a property of at least one separated phase of the multiphase fluid. For example, the sensor may be positioned proximate a bottom of the choke gallery to monitor a property related to a water phase which separates and transitions to the bottom due to its greater density.

  • Patent number: 10450833
Abstract: A self-regulating flow control device for controlling the flow of injected fluid into a subsea well or flowline via a tree, manifold, or other access point on the subsea infrastructure by responding to the injection pressure being applied to prevent the conduit from collapsing. An embodiment of the self-regulating flow control device includes a housing having a first and second through bore, a piston moveable in the through bore, and a biasing member. When in an unactuated position, the biasing member biases the piston isolating the first through bore from the second through bore, and when in an actuated position, a pressure overcomes the biasing member to move the piston and expose the first through bore to the second through bore. The self-regulating control flow device prevents a vacuum from being drawn into the conduit system below during sudden decreases in uphole pressure by blocking or closing flow paths in the housing.

  • Patent number: 10421525
Abstract: A bearing system for a rotating turret mounted on a vessel includes upper radial and axial bearings placed on a stiff bearing support ring. The bearing support ring is isolated from deflections in the vessel's caisson. Through the isolation, the radial and axial bearings are less affected by deflection of the vessel for example due to waves. The bearing support ring is supported vertically by a system of hydraulic cylinders serviced by multiple hydraulic systems for redundancy. The bearing support ring alternatively can be supported by an articulated steel structure.

  • Patent number: 10415346
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for diverting fluids either into or from a well are described. Some embodiments include a diverter conduit that is located in a bore of a tree. The invention relates especially but not exclusively to a diverter assembly connected to a wing branch of a tree. Some embodiments allow diversion of fluids out of a tree to a subsea processing apparatus followed by the return of at least some of these fluids to the tree for recovery. Alternative embodiments provide only one flowpath and do not include the return of any fluids to the tree. Some embodiments can be retro-fitted to existing trees, which can allow the performance of a new function without having to replacing the tree. Multiple diverter assembly embodiments are also described.

  • Patent number: 10415329
Abstract: A technique facilitates landing of a subsea component, e.g. a tubing hanger, by utilizing a poppet valve to provide an indication of proper landing. The poppet valve is combined with the tubing hanger or other subsea component and oriented to engage a corresponding landing surface. A pressure line is routed to the poppet valve, and the poppet valve is biased to an open flow position with respect to the pressure line during deployment. If the subsea component is properly landed, the corresponding landing surface is able to shift the poppet valve to a closed position. The closed position may be verified via pressure testing through the pressure line.

  • Patent number: 10411443
Abstract: Heat sinks that cool electronics are mounted within a subsea housing or vessel. Springs are used to provide pressure between the heat sinks and a vessel wall. Vessel wall deformation caused by external seawater pressure is absorbed by the springs, which maintain a pre-load force according to the spring characteristics. The mechanism also allows for rack mounting of the electronics without the need for manual access in the relatively compact vessel or housing.
