Abstract: The disclosure provides methods and apparatuses for detecting two-touch events with a five-wire resistive touch sensor comprising an active layer and a sensing layer. The methods include, while a first voltage gradient is generated across an active layer of the sensor, measuring a first voltage of a sensing layer electrode and a current across the sensor. The methods further include, while the second voltage gradient is generated across the active layer, measuring a second voltage of the sensing layer electrode and a second current across the sensor. The first and second currents are compared to a respective threshold. A two-touch event is detected based on the comparison.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for the recovery of hydrophobic particles from a slurry comprised of water, the hydrophobic particles, and a hydrophilic component. Slurry is exposed to a gas stream to permit bubbles to adhere to the hydrophobic particles. The slurry generally flows vertically through a vessel at a velocity that maintains gas hold-up at least between 30 and 70% to maintain a bubbly flow without a slurry froth interface so that a portion of the water of the slurry, together with entrained gas bubbles attached to hydrophobic particles, flows out of the vessel with a portion of the water of the slurry and the hydrophilic component remaining in the vessel. Water from the slurry and gas bubbles attached to hydrophobic particles flowing through the vessel is discharged and collected for processing. A portion of the hydrophilic component is extracted as tailings for disposal or subsequent processing.

Abstract: In a frequency multiplexed capacitive touch sensor, a plurality of resonance frequencies may be used to drive electrodes for sensing touch. A capacitive touch sensor apparatus is provided that includes a substrate layer and a plurality of resonant circuits. Each resonant circuit comprises a respective electrode and a respective electromechanical resonator connected to the respective electrode. The electromechanical resonators comprise any suitable high-Q resonator including, but not limited to: ceramic oscillators; crystal oscillators; and MEMs oscillators, as described above. The electrodes of the plurality of resonant circuits are distributed on the substrate layer. The electromechanical resonators may allow relatively close spacing of adjacent resonance frequencies, in comparison to resonant circuits with discrete inductors.

Abstract: A screw fastener particularly adapted to improve retention while minimizing mushrooming in fibrous workpieces. A single-threaded lower portion neighbours the pointed tip of the screw and a dual-threaded upper portion neighbours the screw head. The upper portion has a first upper thread that spirals in an opposite direction to the singular lower thread, and a second upper thread that spirals in a same direction as the singular lower thread. The lower thread includes a plurality of thread turns that share a same major thread diameter while axially spanning multiple areas of the lower portion of the shaft that vary in diameter, including a bulged area, a reduced upper area of lesser shaft diameter than the bulged area at a location between the bulged area and the head, and a downwardly tapered lower area at which the diameter of the shaft narrows from the bulged area toward the pointed tip.
Abstract: A capacitive touch sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes on a substrate, and a position of a finger touching the sensor is determined by monitoring output signal changes caused by changes in capacitance caused by the present of the finger over or near the electrodes. The disclosure provides a capacitive touch sensor apparatus comprising a substrate and a plurality of touch sensor electrodes arranged on the substrate. Each of the electrodes comprises a respective primary electrode strip and a respective one or more electrode strip branches extending from the primary electrode strip.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates, according to some embodiments, to systems, apparatus, and methods for fluid purification (e.g., water) with a ceramic membrane. For example, the present disclosure relates, in some embodiments, to a cross-flow fluid filtration assembly comprising (a) membrane housing comprising a plurality of hexagonal prism shaped membranes (b) an inlet configured to receive the contaminated fluid and to channel a contaminated fluid to the first end of the plurality of hexagonal prism shaped membranes, and (c) an outlet configured to receive a permeate released from the second end of the plurality of hexagonal shaped membranes. The present disclosure also relates to a cross-flow fluid filtration module comprising a fluid path defined by a contaminated media inlet chamber, a fluid filtration assembly positioned in a permeate chamber and a concentrate chamber.
Abstract: An apparatus for continuous casting of molten material includes an elongate tube of electrically conductive material having an inner and an outer wall defining a molding cavity therein, the inner and outer walls having a first end having an inlet for receiving the molten material and a second end having an outlet for removing a solidifying billet formed from the molten material; an electrical coil with inner and outer surfaces, the electrical coil arranged to surround the outer wall of the elongate tube; and an annular channel defined by the outer wall of the elongate tube and the inner surface of the electrical coil. When pulsating current passes through the electrical coil, a counter current is induced in the elongate mold causing a repelling force between the electrical coil and the elongate mold, thereby causing inward radial flexure of the elongate mold.
Abstract: A membrane includes a porous polymer substrate, and at least a first layer of graphene platelets supported by the substrate. The graphene platelets of the first layer include aminated graphene platelets. A method for making a membrane includes providing a porous polymer substrate, providing a first suspension of graphene platelets in a fluid, wherein the graphene platelets of the first suspension are aminated graphene platelets, and applying the first suspension to the substrate to deposit a layer of the aminated graphene platelets on the substrate.
Abstract: A method for control of data transmission in a wireless communication system includes receiving, by an application, from a modem, information indicative of a radio coverage condition, where a user equipment (UE) includes the application and the modem; based on the received information, determining that the UE is in an enhanced coverage state; and in response to the determining, controlling uplink data transmission by the modem to reduce power consumption of the UE.

Abstract: The invention provides power management circuitry for a console. The power management circuitry includes a charging component which includes an integrated circuit for managing the output current separately for charging the battery and for running the console. The integrated circuit comprises a first pin and a second pin to output current which provides voltage (VBAT_SUPPLY) for charging the battery. A third pin and a fourth pin of the integrated circuit is used to output current which provides voltage (VBAT) for running the console. These pins are connected to form a parallel circuit, wherein the integrated circuit cuts off the output current of the first pin and the second pin when VBAT_SUPPLY voltage reaches 4.18V indicating that the battery is fully charged, thereby eliminating charging current and reducing the leakage current. Further, a charging circuit of the console enables bypassing the battery based on instructions received from a power management unit.
Abstract: A sub-band processing system for reducing computational complexity and memory requirements is disclosed. The sub-band processing system includes: a first logic that partitions and stores a frequency spectrum of bins of real and imaginary data into a smaller number of sub-bands; a second logic that executes a first lossy compression for a first set of the sub-bands, wherein the first set includes those sub-bands having indices that are greater than or equal to a first index; and a third logic that executes, subsequent to a frequency spectrum processing of the lossy compressed data rendered by the second logic, a second lossy compression for a second set of the sub-bands, wherein the second set includes those sub-bands having indices that are less than the first index and greater than or equal to a second index.
Abstract: A method and system of estimating human perception of audibility of audio alerts in the presence of background noise. In the audibility estimation system, a microphone generates an input signal corresponding to an audio alert. A processor receives the input signal and generates an audibility metric representing human perception of audibility of the audio alert based on a comparison between a background noise estimate and an audio alert estimate, and causes an action to be taken based on the audibility metric.
