Abstract: An apparatus, method, and a computer program are provided. In one embodiment, a request is transmitted to a selector module for an available web service and a response is received from the selector module for a web service server. The response includes an endpoint uniform resource indicator to allow a client module to transmit a web service request to an appropriate web service server.

Abstract: A peripheral device connected to a local electronic device which is connected to at least one communication network can communicate with a peripheral device attached to a remote electronic device as if the remote peripheral device was locally attached. Data designated for the remote peripheral device is received by a local virtual device object and transmitted to the remote electronic device via at least one of the electronic devices communication interfaces or peripheral devices. Data received by the remote electronic device's communication interface or peripheral device is written to the peripheral device at the remote electronic device by a virtual device object. For compensation of different transfer speeds or outages between the peripheral device and the communication interface or another peripheral device the virtual device provides the ability to utilize the virtual devices emulation driver that is attached to the virtual device object as an I/O buffer.

Abstract: The content-aware application switch and methods thereof intelligently switch client packets to one server among a group of servers in a server farm. The switch uses Layer 7 or application content parsed from a packet to help select the server and to schedule the transmitting of the packet to the server. This enables refined load-balancing and Quality of-Service control tailored to the application being switched. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, a method includes maintaining a server load metric for each server in a group of servers; parsing application content from a packet; selecting a destination server from the group of servers, wherein selecting the destination server is dependent on the server load metric for each server, assigning a priority to the packet, the priority being dependent on the application content; and dropping the packet if the priority comprises at least one of a predetermined type.

Abstract: Information reduction in data processing environments includes at least one of: one or more Error Correcting Codes that decode n-vectors into k-vectors and utilize said decoding to information-reduce data from a higher dimensional space into a lower dimensional space. The information reduction further provides for a hierarchy of information reduction allowing a variety of information reductions. Transformations are provided to utilize available data space, and data may be transformed using several techniques including windowing functions, filters in the time and frequency domains, or any numeric processing on the data.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to a technique for analyzing data records using a touch screen interface. A touch event is received from the touch screen interface. In response to receiving the touch event, at least one data record is selected from a plurality of data records in a time chart, the time chart including at least one time line relating to at least one data object, the plurality of data records being plotted on the at least one time line based on a time parameter of each of the plurality of data records. Information relating to the selected at least one data record is processed based on the time parameter.

Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus and method of operating and allocating a shared memory between various applications operating via a processing computing platform. One example may include receiving a first buffer context switch request message from a first application operating via a processor, transmitting a first buffer context switch flag to the processor operating the application confirming the first buffer context switch request was received, receiving a second buffer context switch request from a second application with a different processing cycle operating via the processor and transmitting a second buffer context switch flag to the processor operating the second application confirming the second buffer context switch request was received. Once the applications have been identified and confirmed, a synchronization operation may be performed to create a shared number of memory units between at least two different buffers and provide the shared memory units to the first application and the second application.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that provides a virtual private network (VPN). The system includes a routing apparatus on a public network. The routing apparatus accepts a first connection with a client on the VPN and a second connection with a gateway in a private network extended by the VPN. Next, the routing apparatus receives a first set of packets from the client over the first connection, wherein the first set of packets is encrypted. The routing apparatus then routes the first set of packets to the gateway. The system also includes the gateway, which establishes the second connection with the routing apparatus. Next, the gateway decrypts the first set of packets and routes the decrypted first set of packets to a host in the private network.

Abstract: Methods, computer media encoding instructions, and systems that receive write requests directed to non-sequential logical block addresses and write the write requests to sequential disk block addresses in a storage system include an overprovision of a storage system to include an increment of additional storage space such that it is more likely a large enough sequential block of storage will be available to accommodate incoming write requests.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of processing content, such as, video and/or audio are disclosed. The operations of processing content may include receiving user input, such as, a content file, a type of content format, and a content destination. Other operations include determining necessary operations needed to complete the content processing and determining the applications available to the user on a local machine used by the user. The operations further include determining whether the user's local machine includes the necessary applications to perform the content processing, and determining a codec that will be used to process the content, and formatting the content using the codec and distributing the content to the content destination.

Abstract: An identity selector manages the identity requirements of an online interaction between a user and a service provider environment. The identity selector is adapted for interoperable use with a user-portable computing device. The user device enables a user to carry identification information and to generate security tokens for use in authenticating the user to a service provider. The identity selector includes an agent module that facilitates communication with the user device. The identity selector imports the user identities from the user device and determines which user identities satisfy a security policy of a relying party. After the user selects one of the eligible user identities, the identity selector generates a token request based on the selected identity and forwards it to the user device, which in response issues a security token. The security token is returned to the identity selector and used to facilitate the authentication process.

Abstract: A method and system for checkpointing at least one application in an application group. At least one full checkpoint and at least one incremental checkpoint are created for the application in the application group. The at least one incremental application checkpoint is merged against the at least one full application checkpoint, and checkpointing across all applications in the application group is synchronized. A storage checkpoint is taken for at least one of the full checkpoint and the incremental checkpoint, and memory and storage checkpoints are synchronized and consistent.

Abstract: All steps required to create and operate a peripheral device of an electronic device can be performed without the need to plug in the peripheral device to the electronic device. Setup information for a peripheral device is extracted, modified and stored to fit to a physical existent peripheral device. The modified setup information is used to create a data structure that is passed to the peripheral bus driver. As the data structure contains a hot plug notification the reception causes the peripheral bus driver to initiate the setup process for the peripheral device. As the data structure is built from setup information that is available at the electronic device no additional user action is required. The invention also allows the creation of a device object for existing signed driver packets that may not be altered.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of adding thin client functionality are disclosed. One example method provides generating a call function directed to an electronic device and at least one peripheral device. The method also includes redirecting the call function to an auxiliary device, extracting payload data from information sent to the at least one peripheral device, discarding values outside a previously negotiated range from the extracted payload data, performing at least one of incrementing and decrementing the remaining values of the payload data to create a data subset, and redirecting the data subset to at least one other peripheral device resulting in output information being sent to the at least one other peripheral device.

Abstract: A system and method that enables an application to retrieve application update from the software vendor using one or more network connection. The application checks for updates when it is invoked by the user. The checking of updates is done by sending a request to the vendor server via one or multiple network connections. The network connection can be wired or wireless. By using multiple network connections, the update process can send and receive update data faster than using one network connections. Another aspect of the invention is if the checking for update request failed via the default or 1st network connection, the application will check for the next available network connection to send the update request. By checking for update from the vendor, the application will always have the most up to date patches, fixes, and/or new features.

Abstract: Disclosed are examples of modifying a current state of a mobile station based on the location of the mobile station with respect to a nearby acquaintance. The method may include detecting a presence of a mobile station in a predefined domain area identified by an application, the predefined domain area being associated with at least one acquaintance, and performing a modification to a current state of the mobile station based on a level associated with the at least one acquaintance.

Abstract: A system includes a multi-process application that runs on primary hosts and is checkpointed by a checkpointer comprised of a kernel-mode checkpointer module and one or more user-space interceptors providing at least one of barrier synchronization, checkpointing thread, resource flushing, and an application virtualization space. Checkpoints may be written to storage and the application restored from said stored checkpoint at a later time. Checkpointing may be incremental using Page Table Entry (PTE) pages and Virtual Memory Areas (VMA) information. Checkpointing is transparent to the application and requires no modification to the application, operating system, networking stack or libraries. In an alternate embodiment the kernel-mode checkpointer is built into the kernel.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for sending video content to a mobile device is described. According to one embodiment, a computer-implemented method comprising embedding a widget in a website, the widget generating a form. The form is provided when a user visits the website so as to execute the widget. The form includes a first field to enter a recipient phone number, a send selector, and one or more non-visible fields, the non-visible fields containing a content service provider identifier, and a video URL. A data packet is generated with the widget when the user selects the send selector, the data packet including the recipient phone number, the video URL, and the content service provider identifier. An encoded version of the data packet is sent to the content service provider and a video link message is sent to the recipient phone number.

Abstract: A system which employs a method of creating transferable map schemas, storing the map schemas to storage devices, receiving target device settings, re-sampling the map schemas to fit the target devices using the target device settings, delivering the re-sampled map schemas to the target devices is described. Thereby providing the innovation that map schemas may be accessed by more than one type of device, the method by which maps are scaled from a created map dimension with given details to either a larger map having the ability to be utilized on a more capable playing device or to a map or a smaller map having the ability to be utilized on a less capable device without losing the important game-specific required data is also described.
