Abstract: A method for generating a secure application is described herein. The method can include the steps of obtaining a target application and decomposing the target application into original files that contain predictable instructions. One or more predictable instructions in the original files may be identified. In addition, the target application may be modified to create the secure application by binding one or more intercepts to the target application. These intercepts can enable the modification of the predictable instructions in accordance with one or more policies such that the behavior of the secure application is different from the original behavior of the target application. Modification of the target application may be conducted without access to the source code of the target application.

  • Publication number: 20130029645
Abstract: A communication system includes a communication device (i.e., a cellular or smart phone) communicatively coupled to an auxiliary communication device (i.e. a headset). Systems and methods are provided for switching between calls in instances in which there are at least three calls being simultaneously supported. In one embodiment, a prediction can be made as to which one of the pending calls should be resumed when an active call is terminated or put on hold. The prediction can be made based on any suitable criterion, including, for example, the frequency of calls received from or made to a caller, the amount or percentage of accepted calls from a caller, the duration of calls received from or made to a caller, and/or a ranking input by a user. Such predictive analysis can minimize the need for a user to cumbersomely navigate through a call list to reach a desired call.

  • Publication number: 20130028446
Abstract: Arrangements described herein relate to systems and methods for adjusting the audio output from an electrical device based on the orientation of the device to provide proper stereo audio output for more than one orientation of the device. The audio output system includes at least two speakers. The device includes an orientation sensor, which can be accelerometer, a gravity sensor, a gyroscope, a tilt sensor, an electronic compass, or combinations thereof. The audio output system can be operatively connected to the orientation sensor. Based on orientation data collected by the orientation sensor, output from the audio output system can be adjusted to provide audio output from opposing left and right regions of the device. Such adjustments can be implemented by the orientation sensor itself or by a switching device (such as a processor, digital logic gate or switching transistor) operatively positioned between the orientation sensor and the audio output system.

  • Publication number: 20130013906
Abstract: A method and system for validating components during a booting process of a computing device are described herein. The method can include the steps of detecting a power up signal and in response to detecting the power up signal, progressively determining whether software components of the computing device are valid. If the software components are determined to be valid, the computing device may be permitted to move to an operational state. If, however, at least some of the software components are determined to be not valid, the computing device may be prevented from moving to the operational state. In one arrangement, if the computing device is prevented from moving to the operational state, corrective action can be taken in an effort to permit the computing device to move to the operational state.

  • Publication number: 20120287343
Abstract: A display system is described that extends the functionality of a mobile display device such that video content generated thereby can be displayed by a different display device, wherein such video content may be the same as or different from video content currently being displayed by the mobile display device. This may be achieved when the mobile display device is engaged with a docking station that provides one or more of power, an extended user interface, network connectivity, and audio/video output features to the mobile display device. Such docking station may include a video interface for connecting the docking station to the different display device. When the mobile display device is engaged with the docking station and the docking station is connected to the different display device via the video interface, video content can be routed from the mobile display device to the different display device.

  • Publication number: 20120221666
Abstract: A system and method of controlling access to one or more electronic devices is disclosed. The method can include the step of—out of a plurality of electronic devices—identifying a master device and a slave device. The master device can be configured to control access to at least one feature of the slave device, and the master device can be associated with a person who has supervisory authority over another person who uses the slave device. During an active session on the slave device, a pre-disablement warning can be sent to the slave device in which the pre-disablement warning can identify a first time period by which access to the feature of the slave device is to be prevented. A disablement message can be sent to the slave device, thereby preventing access to the feature of the slave device following the expiration of the first time period.

  • Publication number: 20120209935
Abstract: A method and system for selectively providing access to one or more slave computing devices is described. The method includes providing one or more slave computing devices and one or more master computing devices, the master computing device being communicatively coupled to the slave computing device. The method also includes displaying a user interface on the slave computing device that accepts input from a user and receiving a disablement signal at the slave computing device from the master computing device. The method also includes the step of—responsive to receipt of the disablement signal—disabling the user interface of the slave computing device such that the user is not permitted to provide the input. As part of the disablement of the slave computing device, a non-interactive message that does not respond to user attempts to provide input to the slave computing device can be displayed on the slave computing device.

  • Publication number: 20120203859
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for improving the interaction between e-mails/web browsers and communication devices. In such systems and methods, an action of one communication device can effect an action on another communication device. A content source identifier is presented in an email or web page being viewed on a first communication device. If the content source identifier has a specific content type descriptor associated therewith (such as a particular MIME type), then a command can be sent to a second communication device to initiate an action thereon. The command can be sent to the second communication device by the first communication device and/or by a management server communicatively linked to the first and second communication devices. In one embodiment, the first communication device can be a desktop computer or a laptop computer, and the second communication device can be a laptop computer, a tablet computer or a smart phone.

  • Publication number: 20120198083
Abstract: In an embodiment, a client device scans to detect available remote connections using a network protocol. Upon detecting one or more available remote connections, the client device presents or transmits client credentials that are unique to the client device to the remote connections or devices until the client device finds a remote connection that accepts the credentials. The remote connection that accepts the credentials is stored as the home connection by client device, and the client device connects to the home connection. Once the home connection is set, the client device will no longer seek other connections, and will only attempt to re-connect with the home connection if the connection is lost.
