The cushion layer covers the back surface and side surfaces of the installed electronic device. The structural layer is disposed over the cushion layer and includes a back portion, a right side portion, and a left side portion. The structural layer includes a thinned region on the back portion. The thinned region has a thickness that is less than the thickness of the remainder of the back portion of the structural layer. The thinned region of the structural layer allows a section of the protective enclosure to bend away from the back surface of the electronic device for installation and removal of the electronic device from the protective enclosure.

The connector assembly also includes an outer sleeve configured to freely rotate around the connector body and further configured to removably connect the connector assembly to the case. The outer sleeve includes a securing region to removably secure the connector assembly to the case, an inner gasket to seal an inner sealing interface of the outer sleeve with the connector body, and an outer gasket positioned to seal an outer sealing interface of the outer sleeve with the case.

The second panel of the flexible member has a magnet that is configured to connect with a metallic tab that is adhered to the side of the structural member. The metallic tab is configured to allow the first panel of the flexible member to connect with the metallic tab in a closed position that covers the touchscreen of the electronic device and in an open position when the first panel of the flexible member is folded away from the touchscreen and covering the back of the protective case.

The stylus contains at least one optical receiver and is configured to receive the optical beams. The stylus is also configured to detect the data sequences from the optical beams. The electrical circuitry is configured to determine angular relationships between the stylus and the source locations based on the detected encoded data sequences. The electrical circuitry is also configured to calculate coordinates of the stylus on the planar surface based on the angular relationships and the source locations.
