Abstract: A dried glass precursor gel and methods of depositing a powderized or wire form of the dried glass precursor gel to form a glass substrate and/or coating are disclosed. The dried glass precursor gel contains a bulk amorphous oxide-based matrix of primary constituent oxides. One method includes obtaining the dried glass precursor gel, forming a powder or wire from the dried glass precursor gel, melting the powder with a gas stream to form molten droplets, and depositing the molten droplets onto a mold or similar target substrate.

Abstract: A peelable foil closure includes a base extending longitudinally along a first, longitudinal axis and laterally along a second, lateral axis, and a skirt extending from the base. Abstract: A container neck finish includes an outer surface of the neck finish having a parting line, an axially facing sealing surface, a bead projecting radially outwardly from the outer surface and axially spaced from the sealing surface, and circumferentially spaced retention elements projecting radially outwardly from the outer surface, and being located axially between the sealing surface and the bead. At least one of the retention elements includes a stop portion including a ramp portion that extends circumferentially toward the parting line and radially inwardly toward the neck finish outer surface and converges therewith at a location within ten angular degrees of the parting line.
Abstract: A method of making a glass-ceramic article includes synthesizing a feedstock gel that includes a base oxide network comprising Na2O, CaO, and SiO2, in which a molar ratio of Na2O:CaO:SiO2 in the gel is 1:2:3, and then converting the feedstock gel into a glass-ceramic article such as a container or a partially-formed container. The conversion of the feedstock gel into a glass-ceramic container may be performed at a temperature that does not exceed 900° C. and may include the steps of pressing the feedstock gel into a compressed solid green-body, sintering the green-body into a solid monolithic body of a glass-ceramic material, deforming the solid monolithic glass-ceramic body into a glass-ceramic preform, and cooling the preform. A glass-ceramic article having a glass-ceramic material that has a molar ratio of Na2O:CaO:SiO2 that is 1:2:3 is also disclosed.
Abstract: A glass precursor gel and methods of melting the glass precursor gel are disclosed. The glass precursor gel contains a bulk amorphous oxide-based matrix that contains one or more synthesis byproducts. One method includes obtaining the glass precursor gel with the bulk amorphous oxide-based matrix having one or more synthesis byproducts, exposing the glass precursor gel to microwave radiation, and heating and/or melting the glass precursor gel into a molten glass with the microwave radiation by way of the one or more synthesis byproducts.

Abstract: Glass batch materials and processes for preparing and melting structured pellets of glass batch materials to produce molten glass. A structured pellet of glass batch materials may include a core and a shell surrounding the core. The core may include a mixture of glass-forming materials and the shell may include a thermally-activated material. The thermally-activated material may be formulated to undergo an exothermic chemical reaction when heated to a temperature at or above a threshold temperature such that heat is transferred from the shell to the mixture of glass-forming materials in the core.
Abstract: An apparatus for sealing a foil liner to a container. The apparatus comprises a seal head that includes a body having a first end, a second end, and an axis extending through the first and second ends. The body further includes a sealing surface at the second end thereof facing away from the first end. The seal head further includes fluid path(s) for passing fluid through and out of the seal head and onto the foil liner. A method for sealing a foil liner to a container is also provided wherein a sealing surface of a seal head is aligned with a sealing surface of the container, wherein a peripheral edge of the foil liner is disposed between the sealing surfaces of the seal head and the container. Fluid is then passed through fluid path(s) in the seal head and out of the seal head and onto the foil liner.
