Abstract: A dispenser package for fluent products such as cosmetics and lotions that includes an integrally molded plastic container having a flexible body with a sidewall, a closed bottom, and a top wall having a dispensing opening offset from the axis of the container body. A closure has a base wall and a peripheral skirt. In some embodiments of the invention, the closure is rotatably mounted on the container body, and has a dispensing opening in the closure base wall for selective registry with the dispensing opening in the top wall of the container body. Detent elements are provided on the closure and container body for selectively locking the closure in open and closed positions. In alternative embodiments, the closure includes a flip-top hinged to the base wall, with a plug extending therefrom for selectively opening and closing the dispensing opening in the container body top wall.

Abstract: Shuttle blow molding apparatus having an extruder for substantially continuously extruding a thermoplastic material in tubular form at a moldable temperature downwardly along a vertical axis. A first finite length of the thermoplastic material is grasped by a first mold set, which then moves outwardly and downwardly with respect to the extruder to provide clearance for a second mold set to move to a position to grasp a second finite length of the extruded thermoplastic tube. The first mold set is then moved horizontally away to permit the finite length of thermoplastic tube therein to be blown into a hollow article, and thereafter removed from the first mold set at a second position of the first mold set.

Abstract: A package for dispensing a liquid product that includes an outer shell having a flexible resilient sidewall, a base wall and a finish surrounding an outlet opening. An inner bag-shaped liner is disposed within the outer shell, and is unattached to the sidewall and the base wall of the outer shell so as to be collapsible with respect to the outer shell as product is dispensed from the liner. A dispensing structure is secured to the finish. An opening in the base wall of the outer shell vents the volume between the shell and the liner to atmosphere. An atmospheric vent valve includes a base secured over the base wall of the outer shell, a valve pocket within the base having an atmospheric vent opening, and a valve disk received in the valve cup so that air pressure holds the valve disk against the base over the atmospheric vent opening when the container sidewall is squeezed.

Abstract: A container and closure package in that includes a container having a body, a finish wall extending from the body with at least one external thread, a circular throat at an axial edge of the finish wall remote from the body and having a lesser inner diameter than the finish wall, and a pour spout extending axially from the throat at greater inner diameter than the throat. The container body, finish wall, throat and pour spout are of integrally blow molded construction as formed, with the inside diameter of the throat being optionally reamed as required for sealing engagement with the closure. The closure has a base wall, a peripheral outer skirt extending from the base wall with an internal thread for receipt over the external thread on the container finish wall, and an internal skirt extending from the base wall and spaced radially inwardly from the outer skirt for sliding plug-sealing receipt within the throat, with the pour spout being disposed between the inner and outer skirts of the closure.

Abstract: A dispensing package for fluent products includes a container of one-piece integrally molded plastic construction having a hollow flexible body, and a rigid integral finish defined by a deck that spans one end of the body, a package dispensing opening in the deck and a wall upstanding from a perimeter of the deck surrounding the deck and the opening. An actuator disk is mounted within the peripheral wall overlying the deck and the dispensing opening, and is pivotal between a closed position closing the opening and an open position for dispensing product from the opening through the actuator disk.

Abstract: A one-piece integrally molded container includes a finish having a deck and a pair of outlet openings surrounded by associated annular walls. A peripheral ring extends upwardly from the deck, and has a radial lip that helps retain the container in the mold tooling during the forming operation. The finish has a radial bead over which a bead on the inside diameter of a closure skirt snaps to secure the closure to the container. Annular walls on the closure surrounding the closure dispensing openings are received in plug sealing engagement within the annular walls surrounding the outlet openings on the container finish deck.

Abstract: Apparatus for, and method of, conveying tandem thermoplastic containers from a molding machine to a tail removal station, the tandem containers being positioned with their axes extending horizontally but possibly out of parallel with one another and with their ends possibly out of alignment with one another. The apparatus includes a spaced pair of synchronously driven endless conveyors that convey tandem containers to a downwardly inclined ramp, the ramp having a wedge on its tandem supporting surface that engages outwardly projecting beads on each of the containers of the tandem to orient the tandems with their ends parallel, the downwardly inclined ramp also serving to orient the tandems with their axes parallel.

Abstract: A system for cooling molds in a glassware forming machine includes a pair of mold arms mounted on a hinge post for movement toward and away from each other, and at least one mold part carried by each mold arm and adapted to cooperate with each other to form a glassware blank mold or blow mold. Each mold part includes at least one coolant passage having an inlet and an outlet disposed at one end of the mold part, and each mold arm has inlet and outlet coolant flow passages operatively coupled to the inlet and outlet of the mold part mounted on that arm. A liquid coolant source and a liquid coolant return are disposed adjacent to the hinge post. A first coolant passage extends through the hinge post between the coolant source and the inlet flow passages in the mold arms, and a second coolant passage extends through the hinge post between the outlet coolant flow passages in the mold arms and the coolant return.

Abstract: A multilayer container for dispensing product that includes a relatively rigid outer body and a relatively flexible inner liner for holding product to be dispensed. The relatively rigid outer body includes, and preferably consists essentially of, an outer layer of virgin polyethylene such as HDPE, and an inner thicker layer that includes polyethylene regrind. The relatively flexible inner liner includes, and preferably consists essentially of, an outer delamination layer adjacent to the inner layer of the body and composed of nylon, nylon blends or EVOH, an inner layer of polyethylene such as LLDPE, and an adhesive securing the inner and outer layers of the liner. The relatively thin outer HDPE layer on the plastic body provides desired appearance, while the thicker inner layer provides structural rigidity using reground plastics.

A seal is provided at the underside of the base wall in sealing engagement with the fill/dispensing opening of the container. A disk has an electrically conductive underlayer that is induction fusion welded to the closure.

Abstract: A blow-molded hollow plastic container having a continuous liquid layer of conventional silk screen ink applied thereto over an external container surface area, and also having a self-adhering pre-printed label applied over the silk screen coated area. The protective ink barrier coating prevents formulation of bubbles beneath the label. The container may also have labeling silk screen imprinted on the container surface in a designated label-receiving area, and/or on non-designated surface area concurrently with barrier coating of the designated area. The container may have gas-blocking clear ink barrier layer silk screened over the silk screen imprinting, and then the a label applied over the gas-blocking layer of clear ink when dry. The label may be “peelable” for customer rebate return without thereby altering the labeling information remaining on the container.

Abstract: A dispenser package for a fluent product that includes a plastic container having an axially extending cylindrical neck, and a closure secured to the open end of the neck. The closure includes a plastic fitment having a dispensing opening and a cylindrical wall received within the neck. The container neck has a radially opening circumferential channel, while the fitment has a radially projecting circumferential bead received by snap fit into the channel to secure the fitment to the neck. A top is pivotally secured to the fitment or to the container neck for selectively opening and closing the dispensing opening. In the preferred embodiments of the invention, the dispensing opening is circular, and the top has an annular wall that forms a plug seal within the dispensing opening when the top is in the closed position. The top is flush with the fitment or the axial end of the container neck in the closed position to form a compact visual structure.

Abstract: A method of fabricating a dual-chamber plastic container in an injection/extrusion/blow-molding operation, in which a container finish is first injection molded. The finish mold tooling is then moved axially upwardly as plastic continues to be extruded through extrusion tooling in which an orifice bushing surrounds a mandrel tip. The mandrel tip has a passage through which plastic is extruded to form a wall that divides the extruded tube into separate chambers. Blow molds are brought in from both sides to capture the extruded tube, and air is blown through a passage in the finish mold tooling to blow the tube chambers to the confines of the mold.
