  • Patent number: 4948465
Abstract: An apparatus for facilitating the replacement of an endless press felt in a paper and board making machine includes an actuator for lifting a roll which is in contact with a press felt. The actuator operates to lower a roll holder carrying the second end of a roll. The apparatus also includes a roll support mounted on a section between roll ends and, through the intermediary of a lever, is pivotably linked to a fixed fulcrum on a base structure. The roll support is linked by means of a chain serving as a connecting member to the second end of the roll.

  • Patent number: 4935098
Abstract: The compact press section in a paper machine has a frame construction with several sections and a roll arrangement. The roll arrangement comprises a roll and at least two press rolls, each forming a nip with the central roll. The press section additionally comprises members for guiding the paper web through the press section, members for guiding one or a plurality of felts and members for cleaning the central roll. The central roll is movable with regard to the frame construction through the transfer means connected with the frame construction and interlockable by the interlocks connected to the frame construction. Thus, the machine elements of the press section can be separated and the service conditions of the press section are improved.

  • Patent number: 4934465
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement for the axial bearing of the drilling machine. The drilling machine thereby comprises a body (6), a percussion device (1) fitted in the body, and a rotation bushing (3) functioning as a rotating means of a shank (2) positioned on an axial extension of the percussion device. Furthermore, an axial bearing is fitted within the body (6) for receiving the axial forces exerted on the body (6) through the shank (2). In order to provide resilience, the axial bearing is arranged to be displaceable in the axial direction under the influence of a pressure medium acting thereon. To resiliently receive a percussion impulse reflected from the rock during the drilling process, the pressure and volume flow of the pressure medium of the axial bearing is adjustable so that the position (Y) of the axial bearing is between the extreme positions (0,.DELTA.X) of the axial bearing under the normal operating conditions of the drilling machine.

  • Patent number: 4931140
Abstract: A method and a device for cutting an edge strip in a web by means of a water jet against a felt or wire of a paper machine for the threading of the web, whereby the end of the web is passed through the paper machine by means of the edge strip cut in the web, the edge strip being narrower than the web. In order to prevent the felt or wire from getting wet or being choked, the water jet is displaced back and forth across the direction of travel of the web so that the water jet cuts a gently wavelike edge in the edge strip. Correspondingly, the water used in the cutting and the filling agent or other such waste possibly separated from the web spread over the web over a wider area instead of spreading linearly, whereby the felt or wire will not get wet or choked.

  • Patent number: 4927613
Abstract: A process for causing gaseous trace element particles to pass from a flowing hot gas into a fine particulate material by means of water. A mixture of the hot gas and water drops is caused to flow substantially upwards at such a velocity that the water drops remain in the gas flow and for a period long enough for most of the mass of the water drops to evaporate in order to cool the gas and to increase its relative humidity. After the gases have reached their wet temperature, they are brought into a turbulent state in order to cause the dust particles and the water drops which have decreased through evaporation to impinge against each other in order to produce in the aqueous film which covers the dust particles an exothermal ion reaction between the gaseous water-soluble trace element particles and the fine particles. Thereafter, the mixture is caused to flow further in order to evaporate the remaining water by means of the heat of reaction so that a dry end product is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4899461
Abstract: A method for drying a fibre web such as a paper or paper board web, wherein air is first removed from the web and a dryer felt, whereafter they are led together between two parallel metal bands moving at the same speed as the web and the felt. For drying the web, the band on the side of the web is heated by means of a heating device before the band reaches the drying zone and, correspondingly, the band on the side of the dryer felt is cooled before the band reaches the drying zone and comes into contact with the dryer felt. In the method, for adjusting the mechanical Z compression exerted peripendicularly on the surface of the web, the temperature of the cooling band is adjusted so that the difference between the condensation pressure of the steam condensed on the surface of the band on the side of the dryer felt and the pressure acting on the outer surface of the bands is substantially equal to the desired mechanical Z compression.

  • Patent number: 4894147
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for screening pulp, comprising a screen drum (2) provided with holes for the passage of an accepted pulp fraction therethrough; and a blade (10) for a screening device. The device comprises straight blades (10) wiping the surface of the screen drum (2) and extending in parallel with the axis of the screen drum (2). Reject which does not pass through the screen drum (2) is removed through a reject discharge opening (5) at the other end of the screen drum. For transferring the reject from the surface of the screen drum (2) to the reject discharge end, the surface of the blades (10) is on the screen drum side provided with grooves (11) so inclined that the front end of the groove (11) is closer to the pulp input than the rearmost end of the same groove (11). Thereby each groove (11) in the blades (10) causes the reject to be transferred towards the reject discharge opening (5).

  • Patent number: 4890372
Abstract: A press roll in a paper machine comprising a body cylinder mounted between two end pieces and fastened thereto, and a press cylinder surrounding the body cylinder and spaced apart therefrom. The press cylinder, which is rigid and receives the radial forces of the roll acting in the nip of the press, is fastened at the ends thereof radially immovably relative to the body of the roll. The press cylinder is at one end fastened to one end piece by means of axial bolts, whereby the conical surface of the press cylinder and a corresponding conical surface in the end piece are pressed against each other, thus clamping the press cylinder at the end thereof tightly against the end piece. At the other end of the roll the press cylinder is fastened to the other end piece of the roll by means of a separate fastening flange which is fastened both to the press cylinder and to the end piece by means of axial bolts. The fastening flange comprises an annular projection provided at both sides with a conical surface.

  • Patent number: 4891097
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of regulating, for the purpose of burning soda-ash in a recovery boiler furnace, the feeding-in or combustion conditions of concentrated spent liquors of varying chemical and physical properties by measuring some physical property of a liquor fed into the recovery boiler furnace and by regulating the feeding-in and combustion conditions directly on the basis of the thus measured physical properties. According to the invention, the maximum swelling, upon heating, of a dry-matter particle of the liquor fed into the recovery boiler furnace is measured. On the basis of this measurement the temperature, pH value, or injection pressure of the liquor fed into the furnace, or the height of the injection point or the direction of injection, or the feeding of air into the furnace is adjusted directly on the basis of the maximum swelling measurement.

  • Patent number: 4887362
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for drying a paper web or the like. In the invention the web to be dried is transferred on a felt between bands moving around as an endless loop. The band making contact with the web is heated by means of a steam chamber, and the band making contact with the felt is supported and cooled within the area of the steam chamber by means of supporting and cooling means. For providing a rapid compensation of pressure differences, the supporting and cooling means is formed by a hydrostatic plate comprising a plurality of pressure pockets and return conduits separated from each other by means of ridges. Water is fed into the pressure pockets so that it enters the return conduits over the ridges. The pressure of the return conduits is adjusted on the basis of the pressure of the steam contained in the steam chamber.
